corybrown··on Ask HN: Is it worth taking a 25% paycut to join a startup?
A big issue with startups today is that it takes longer and longer to get any kind of liquidity (5 years is very quick these days).

So, in the small chance your startup works out, you only get that equity pay day after half a decade at best.

Is the experience worth the risk and opportunity cost? Depends on your situation

Amazing analysis, great stuff. Absolutely terrifying that this has been going on though.

corybrown··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2017)
Gotta pay for quality, GOOG / FB / etc pay far more than that w/ liquid equity.
corybrown··on On Password Managers
I really wish folks would just use kdbx4 as a standard. Or any other format, I just want portability.
corybrown··on On Password Managers
Looks nice, thanks for the pointer.

Have you ever considered using a keepass database as the store? Would give you mobile / gui / etc clients. I'd definitely use it :)

corybrown··on On Password Managers
Oooh, that's pretty interesting. Shame there is no mobile client.

I've moved from LastPass to KeePass, but the biggest thing I miss from LastPass (other than the better browser integration) is a good CLI client. Lastpass-cli is great, and kpcli just isn't.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good CLI client that isn't `pass`? (I don't want to deal with GPG)

> REQUIREMENTS: Any Chromebook supporting Play store.

Only works because you run the Android app on your Chromebook, not supported everywhere.

corybrown··on The Company Isn't a Family
> Because by invoking the image of the family, the valor of doing whatever it takes naturally follows. You’re not just working long nights or skipping vacation to further the bottom line, no, no, you’re doing this for the family.

Same trick used by college fraternities to do all sorts of crap.

corybrown··on Language Server Protocol, Rust and Emacs
As a vim user, I'm very excited about LSP. Neovim (close enough) may add native support, which would be great: https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/5522

It's possible to do a lot of the nice IDE features in vim (and I'm sure emacs) today w/ all sorts of contortions, but a standard way to get this done would be amazing.

Seems like that in every US city. Biking is almost a lifestyle with special clothes and gear.

corybrown··on Is Every Speed Limit Too Low?
> natural resources as a economic base

True for Norway, but not any other country in the neighborhood (fine, Scotland I guess)

corybrown··on Is Every Speed Limit Too Low?
Both countries are far, far smaller than Russia.
corybrown··on Is Every Speed Limit Too Low?
Plenty of US states have small populations, no? Also lots of states are comparatively homogeneous (Sweden has 19% of population as recent immigrants).
corybrown··on Is Every Speed Limit Too Low?
Your map clearly shows Europe being larger. Unless you want to completely ignore European Russia.
