corybrown··on Anthropic Hires Back Two Coding AI Leaders from Cursor Developer Anysphere
This is not the first recent example of people joining cursor and not lasting long, same thing happened recently with an eng manager over there

They've grown a ton, but the four founders have low EQ and don't know what they're doing

corybrown··on When Google paid websites to promote Firefox
You're basically right, though the IE dev team was effectively disbanded in 2002 so it's even earlier then you mentioned
corybrown··on US has lost at least three nuclear bombs that have never been located
This could be a great initial premise for a novel
corybrown··on Bitcoin drops below $20k, Ether cracks $1k – what this means

corybrown··on Xterm.js
Used this as my daily driver for dev work for years, works great. Only downside is it doesn't do emoji rendering well
corybrown··on Crazy New Ideas
Yes, this is something the 45th US president did quite well
corybrown··on Clubhouse clones are coming
Jobs offered to buy them in 2009 when AAPL stock was around $5 a share (obviously a lot of splits happened), compared to today's price of over $120 so that $1B in stock would be around $25B, more than double Dropbox market cap
corybrown··on Japanese people may have gained longevity by balancing their diets
Japan is over 125 million people, not exactly a small set and perfectly valid to compare to the US
corybrown··on [dead]
I've tried a few of them and always end up a bit disappointed since you have to spend a ton of time being very specific with the task, otherwise the person on the other side inevitably does a mediocre job at best since the incentive is to do as many task as quickly as possible, since they're paid per task

You live on Reunion? What is that like?
corybrown··on New businesses are choosing cities with good public transportation: study

I use a Wacom Intous tablet that was sub $100 that works just fine on Linux (I use it with Krita)
corybrown··on City of Austin Cancels SXSW March Events
It took a while to get there, but this is the right call. All the other big conferences have cancelled, holding this would have been terrible PR.

Question is: How far out does your conference have to be for you to not cancel right now?

corybrown··on Malawi legalises the growing, selling and export of cannabis
Are there a lot of farmers in the US? I don't seek it out, but I've read a few times that small family farms are quite rare and most food is produced by huge agribusiness farms
corybrown··on Webmention: Simple web standard to notify any URL when mentioned across the web
15+ years later, we will try to standardize something that's barely used anymore

> This is a similar "Linkback" mechanism to the ones of Refback, Trackback, and Pingback. It uses a different protocol, though, and thus should be discoverable through its own link relation type.

corybrown··on Satya Nadella Added $850B to Microsoft
Ballmer was the 2nd in command of MSFT for years as well, doesn't he deserve the same credit as Cook?
corybrown··on IRS budget cuts cost $34.3B in lost revenue from big business
> The one that found success with the Laffer Curve

Care to explain? The most recent tax cuts that were supposed to pay for themselves haven't. So where are we on the Laffer Curve right now?

corybrown··on IRS budget cuts cost $34.3B in lost revenue from big business
There's a faction of US politicians that are philosophically against (most) government and taxes. It's not about ROI, it's about their goals.
corybrown··on Nigerian Teens Are Making Sci-Fi Shorts with Slick Visual Effects
Can anyone tell me what apps they're using? I'd love to play around with a green screen, but don't have much budget either
corybrown··on Approaching Peak Housing Dysfunction in California
> Some of those buildings will never be fully occupied. Remember 2008? 2001?

Aren't those buildings fully occupied today?

corybrown··on Netlify Analytics
But I don't think Netlify provides logs, so that's not an option, right?
corybrown··on Netlify Analytics
Really excited about this, I miss the days of static server-side logs!

Pricing is a bit high for my super-low-traffic hobby sites, unfortunately. But I'm glad they're doing this!

corybrown··on I Grew Up Gifted, but My Life Didn’t Turn Out the Way I Expected

https://thesefootballtimes.co/2018/02/22/the-roller-coaster-...

"Aurélio Pereira, the Sporting scout who discovered Quaresma, Ronaldo and Moutinho, once said of Paim: “Do you think Cristiano is good? Wait to see Fábio Paim.”"

corybrown··on Homebrew 2.0.0 released
Wow, Linux support. I guess that's useful for those times when the OS package manager is out of date? Or is it in order to not run as root?
corybrown··on Interview with Ted Nelson
Interesting use of Notion as a publishing platform
corybrown··on Can China Turn the Middle of Nowhere into the Center of the World Economy?
Great photos, but why did they publish this w/o a map of any kind? Would be great to see this in geographic context

corybrown··on What I learned from reading a thousand emergency room bills
> I charge clients similarly. I overbid projects that I don't really want to do. If you want me to setup Wordpress for you, I'll charge you out the nose. Granted, you get to accept my fees before I ever send you a bill. It's not a perfect analogy.

One can always forgo setting up WordPress, which is not always the case with healthcare.

corybrown··on U.S. Freelance Workforce, Now 56.7M People, Grew 3.7M Since 2014
Not OP, but have had to buy insurance as a freelancer before.

Do you have a family? Health insurance prices are far, far higher if you have a family.

The type of coverage you can by as an individual is also inferior to those you get access to at large companies, so it can be harder to get in-network coverage.

corybrown··on Make your data accessible or you’re fired
Web scraping is such an underappreciated art. Unfortunately, it's harder and harder to do little hobby projects since many sites will quickly ban you.

I was working on a music project, trying to use Rate Your Music as the data source. Got banned before even hitting 50 requests (less than one a minute). I should have checked their TOS first ...
