corporateslave3··on U.S. Employers Struggle to Match Workers with Open Jobs
Google and FB know this, the problem is that its far too inefficient for them to screen for those hard earned skills. The algorithms tests are pretty close to IQ tests that you can study for. For mass hiring of decently intelligent employees, they are actually very effective. Worst comes to worst, you put the bad employee on a PIP or boring project and just hire someone else. Large corporations have definitely thought through this.

If the job isnt worth the salary, then the business isnt fungible
corporateslave3··on U.S. Employers Struggle to Match Workers with Open Jobs
Yeah I see this as well. Some recruiters will name a number less than my current comp, and be completely astounded that I am already making that much.

Actually Western Europe is in serious trouble. This argument isnt worth having if we cant agree on that.

Trump was:

Anti globalization in all of its manifestations (immigration, tariffs, taxes, trade)

That was what he ran on. How can you say he was pro corporation?

Outlier with regards to what? It was an exposure of the extreme discontent bubbling under the surface in America. If anything, it was completely rational. The election did not happen in a vacuum and it was not random. I personally believe that it was just the start of things to come in America and shows cracks in the status quo.

So bigger government is the solution? All of those are manifestations of a communist/socialist society.

Inefficiency compared to what?

Look at what capitalism has done to standards of living and life expectancy across the world over the last 100 years. In terms of the quality of human life, it is so staggering how effective capitalism has been. I think your view point of certain people being disadvantaged with regards to our current form of capitalism is short sighted. Sure, some physics phd may not be fully utilized, but that is at the cost of a system that is changing the world for the better.

What we are arguing is whether forcefully changing the inefficiencies (how do we even know they are inefficiencies? We dont. We can only speculate) you see in capitalism would help society overall. But that is like saying in the course of human evolution, we need to enforce mating rules to "change the course", sure we could do that, but how impossible is it? Would it even help? Are we even smart enough to figure that out?

corporateslave3··on The U.S. is risking an academic brain drain
No just an oversupply of people that really arent smart enough to push their fields forwards, they are just highly "educated". PHDs at average schools can be done by most people willing to put in long hours, we need to stop conflating these "highly educated" people with actual ingenuity. Capitalism rightly casts them off to the side.

corporateslave3··on Amazon data science interview questions
I think its already been iterated on by other commenters, but almost all of this advice is wrong. Name brands play a huge roll in careers, even in programming ones. If you have worked a long career and havent worked at a big name company, thats a huge negative signal.
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: One thing you wish would happen in the next 10 years?
haha yeah, it was funny reading that after I posted it. My point is people, wont work if they dont have to, working is miserable. But it keeps an order in society that has been shown to be beneficial (look at the development of western democracies).
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: One thing you wish would happen in the next 10 years?
Sure, everyone will keep being disciplined, waking up early to a work a shitty office job. They will keep doing data entry for 40k a year and cleaning up public toilets for 35k a year. They will put up with massive stress and the risk of being laid off at a large corporation
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: One thing you wish would happen in the next 10 years?
I am never in fear of starvation. Western civilization was built on the bedrock of contributing to society through labor. It's how the system works. That whole system will have to change if that axiom disappears. It is very naive to think that wont have a massive effect on mate selection, how people spend their time, morals, etc.

This isnt purely about economics. There are other deeper issues at play when you say people no longer need to work.

corporateslave3··on Ask HN: One thing you wish would happen in the next 10 years?
Minimum guaranteed income is the beginning of the end. From a humanist perspective it is great, but that is short sighted. Human beings are goal driven, strip away the necessity of that basic human drive and who knows what can happen.

corporateslave3··on Trump Strategic and Policy Forum, Which Included IBM and GM CEOs, Disbands
Speaking generally, the board and shareholders would never allow a CEO to sacrifice the stock price for the CEO's morals, unless those morals aligned with the good of the company. Very naive to think otherwise.

The weird part is they arent doing it for political reasons, this is to protect the image of their corporation. But we havent been told that. There is so much obfuscation of the truth in politics, I am constantly amazed and dismayed at the same time.

I dont think this is true. There's a reason fresh engineers are paid so much, they are almost immediately valuable.
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: One of my coworkers accused me of sexism, should I tell HR?
This is how you never move up to high paid positions. You need to develop relationships with people across the business to do well.

The proper allocation of capital to working business. Are you arguing against the existence of the investment industry? How would capital move around, how would growth occur?

Completely delusional about Hedge Fund profitability.
corporateslave3··on Wall Street Profits by Putting Investors in the Slow Lane
Right now the newest investment strategies are taking alternative data sets, like mining website data, and using it to predict stock prices. What value does that provide to the average guy? Nothing but market efficiency. It's just how the industry works.
