corporateslave3··on How to not waste time on a side project when trying to get a job
I had this as well, an off by one error on a binary search resulted in a rejection...
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: How do I get $2.2M dollars?
Honestly? Just master data structures, get competing offers at FB and Google, make 350-400k a year, invest heavily and aggressively, retire in 7 or 8 years
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: What's the best book to learn about Apache Spark?
just start writing high data volume spark programs, you wont quite understand or remember why the configs and tuning params are what they are until you try.
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: What is the best thing you ever owned?
Mac book/iPhone, unfortunately.

I use them more than anything else.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...
corporateslave3··on Everything Is Crazy and the Markets Aren’t Freaking Out
Just take a look at the massive rise in quality of life across the world. Your alarmist post is bunk. Life is getting better for everyone all the time.
corporateslave3··on Everything Is Crazy and the Markets Aren’t Freaking Out
It's rigged but for the time being it works. So is it really that bad?
corporateslave3··on Google commits $1B in grants to train U.S. workers for high-tech jobs
Personally, I think you are wrong. If you are an average engineer, you should be very afraid. But if you are exceptional, you will see your comp shoot through the roof in the coming years.
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: Transitioning out of Data Science
Get a job building ML systems, not one where you are writing queries (though they may be complex) for a business person.
corporateslave3··on Why I learned to code instead of pursuing a career in finance
I firmly believe this. If you arent brilliant, you arent writing real software, you are copying what other people are already doing. Any monkey can do that.
corporateslave3··on I was in the MAPS MDMA for PTSD study
"LSD happens to be one of the safest recreational drugs"

Purely anecdotal, but have you ever met someone that has taken large doses of LSD over the course of a few years? They are almost always permanently changed

corporateslave3··on The Fraternity Paradox: Lower GPA, Higher Incomes
"i still think in a lot of corporate environments, money is definitely being made on the side by the decision makers when it comes time to pick an outsourcing firm, or award a contract to a contracting company, you know, you jack me off and i will jack you off later kinda thing, gotta grease the wheels of the company politics once in a while or else you might get caught not working"

I know for a fact that this happens excessively at a very big, well know and well respected company. Huge levels of corruption and under the table payments for outsourcing/contract labor.

corporateslave3··on I was in the MAPS MDMA for PTSD study
Was the threat to the traditional American way of life really the reason they were made illegal? It seems more likely that it was due to the unknown and possibly dangerous nature of the drugs. As a society we have always outlawed drugs that can drastically alter perception (aside from alcohol).
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: Corp-2-Corp vs W2 Work in San Francisco / Bay Area
Quick question, how do you feel about a long term contract (never ending) at 125$ per hour. Assume highly in demand skills (ML, Big Data Architecture, stream processing) with 5 years experience in NYC/SF.

Is that too low? Just right?

corporateslave3··on Facebook's underclass: staffers enjoy perks, contractors barely get by
Would you say that even highly payed contract should be avoided? By highly paid I mean between 300k-400k a year? Where the job is an hourly pay that is a never ending contract? Specifically in the financial industry?
corporateslave3··on You Don’t Need Superstar Developers
In other words, you want an office drone with minimal intellectual curiosity who is docile, does what they are told, and works well with others.
corporateslave3··on Ask HN: What's the next big advance in AI you're looking forward to most?
IBM is all marketing
corporateslave3··on Friends Are Genetically Similar (2014)
"Whiteboards interviews are inadequate. I'd opt for time boxed (for a month?) trial employment."

How is this even possible? People have to work full time jobs while interviewing.

corporateslave3··on Friends Are Genetically Similar (2014)
Whats your opinion on diversity in tech and the whiteboarding interview process at the big tech companies?

Bitcoin is a threat to Jamie Dimon
corporateslave3··on Break Up the Tech Giants? No, Just Level the Field
Three reasons:

1.) The inherent mediocrity in large bureaucracies. They always turn mediocre. People inherently form factions within corporations and become politicians. This destroys the old culture and creates adverse incentives.

2.) Technology is always evolving at a massive pace. Old infrastructure in a large company becomes a burden, and stifles innovation. Startups are built to seize opportunities with new technology.

3.) Which tech companies that have historically been dominant since the 80s are still dominant? Intel? IBM? AOL? Yahoo? Microsoft (maybe but still somewhat irrelevant). Apple may be the only company, but they are in a different game.

he was fired?
corporateslave3··on Break Up the Tech Giants? No, Just Level the Field
Yeah, I do believe some type of AI has a decent chance at disrupting google. Their current infrastructure is very good, and is their competitive advantage. But if some algorithm doesnt need that infrastructure, and provides a much better experience than google, they can be dismantled. All tech companies eventually get disrupted.
corporateslave3··on Massive genetic study shows how humans are evolving
That's a sly attempt at trying to eschew the existence of superiority, make no mistake, it exists
corporateslave3··on Technical Book on Deep Learning
You would be surprised. Deep learning usurped a ton of knowledge about SVMs and such, and then TensorFlow/Keras made it easy to write and deploy good models with little knowledge.

Clearly its more complex than that, but this is true for a good number of use cases.

But you can be
corporateslave3··on Tinder and the Dating Apocalypse (2015)
"To my mind, "dating" is about men spending money on women in hopes of getting laid"

Real romance does happen, I have experienced it. Not everything revolves around money, especially when you are younger. In terms of getting laid, women actually dont really care about money, unless they are using sex to get a relationship. They want to sleep with a hot guy that they emotionally connect with for short term sex. The emotional and personal connection is actually sometimes the most important, confidence matters.

"Our dating practices are rooted in a culture where men make money, women are primarily wives and moms. This is no longer true, so it should be no surprise that dating is having a crisis.

Though it is sad to read about how victimized the women in the article feel."

Generally its actually the opposite, women are not the victims. A large proportion of average men are not able to sleep with or date women of their same ranking until those women hit their late twenties. 80% of women are chasing the top 20% of men, with the rest of men occasionally "getting lucky".

corporateslave3··on Tinder and the Dating Apocalypse (2015)
Yeah its crazy, all these average single girls thinking they are better than the average single guys, until they hit mid to late twenties. Then they "settle" for someone they deemed undesirable for the previous few years.
corporateslave3··on Tinder and the Dating Apocalypse (2015)
Yeah, its a trap generally. In theory your dating matches are limitless, in reality they are much more constrained. This is how the dating atmosphere in NYC generally works, a ton of people with too many mediocre options.
