codingclaws··on Ask HN: What will be obsolete in 10 years?
Ha, all of us.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Do you think software quality is going downhill? If so, why?
It's simple, one can make good money maintaining bad software.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are some homeless shelter innovations?
Those are cool. I found this funny about them:

In Japan, capsule hotels have been stereotypically used by Japanese salarymen who may be too drunk to return home safely, have missed the last train of the day to make a return trip home due to working late hours, or are too embarrassed to face their spouses.

codingclaws··on Ask HN: Are there any alternative front ends for HN?
That's an interesting nested comments visualization with it getting darker. I would guess it's stacked alpha instead of different colors.

A company hired me 10 years ago to build a new CRM system alongside their large ecosystem of existing web apps. There was only one other developer, the lead developer that had built all the other web apps. I built the CRM system in six months. Three months later the lead developer died and I became solo developer for all the apps. I'm still there solo to this day.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What web development stack do you prefer in 2024?
For front-end vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript. HTML is SSR, unless an AJAX call would obviously improve UX. For back-end I don't really care as long as it's not one of those CMS frameworks that caters to the non-developer.
codingclaws··on Thousands of small businesses are struggling because of R&D amortization
Wait, isn't it an incomplete example? How much money did you start with? In other words, you had to pay the developer some salary before any revenue came in.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Are you an optimist for the next 10 years?
We need AGI/ASI to hit and be a good thing.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (January 2024)

codingclaws··on Ask HN: Science Fiction Starter List
Culture series by Iain M. Banks. There are 10 books. It's about a utopian galactic civilization governed by super AIs. Most of the super AIs are giant spaceships that transport people. Most people live for 500+ years, and a lot of them switch sexes. People also have drug glands which allow them to instantly administer 200 different drugs via mental trigger.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are your hobbies?
I want to try kiteboarding, lots of wind where I live.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are your hobbies?
I am into lifting too, but I'm home gym with minimal equipment.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are your hobbies?
Piano for me too. I come from a golf family but haven't been able to get over the hump.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What is your save-the-world project?
I was recently hired to build an AI alignment system. But first we are doing human-human alignment/coordination. It involves prediction markets.
codingclaws··on Trust-based moderation systems
Slightly off topic:

I am trying to innovate on moderation systems and I run/code a whitelist moderated forum [0]. You can only see posts and comments from users that you follow. It's a very simple system and there really aren't any gaming vectors. One implication is that if a new user signs up and posts, no one will see it unless they follow. I've actually never used any typical censorship moderation.

codingclaws··on Ask HN: What book(s) are you reading? Or have recently read?
Honestly, I'm 40 pages into HMS Surprise and it's so good!
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What book(s) are you reading? Or have recently read?
I just finished The Left Hand of Darkness, and now I am reading HMS Surprise.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Anyone in Faro, Portugal?
I love PT as well. I do post on r/portugal sometimes but not this topic. Maybe I will try this there. Obrigado!
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Anyone in Faro, Portugal?
Okay. I don't get up there much because I don't like cars. I'm stuck down here on my bicycle!
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
Wow, the last one! I will get there some day!
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
HMS Surprise by Patrick O'Brian, it's the 3rd novel in the Aubrey/Maturin series. It's the series that the movie Master and Commander is based on. It's about a ship captain and his doctor friend and their naval adventures in the early 1800s.
codingclaws··on New models and developer products
This round of updates seems amazing. I need to pour over these docs and start experimenting.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
Thank you! I did the Hanon exercises years ago and they were okay, but the Czerny 599 exercises are amazing! I love them! They practically sound like songs! I will check out school of velocity and Dohnanyi.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
Piano. I am doing Czerny op 599.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Which programming languages have you used?
College class. Loved it.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Which programming languages have you used?
Me?

Java, C, C++, Prolog, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, Haskell, Common Lisp, Clojure, Lua, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, SQLite, VBScript, Python, Ruby, ActionScript 2, ActionScript 3, Perl, MATLAB, Octave, Dart, Rust, assembly.

I'm probably missing some.

codingclaws··on Ask HN: How would you introduce kids to web dev?
I think you're doing it right, just HTML at the start. Maybe show them that they can do just HTML with a single .html file and no internet connection.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
It does:

https://www.commentcastles.org/r/meta

https://www.commentcastles.org/r/internet

But they're a little more like tags, you can use up to 4 per post, and there are no admins for each one.

codingclaws··on Ask HN: How do I effectively explain that I can use any stack?
If you aren't, I'm curious how long you think it takes to learn a new programming language if one already uses many.
