cobythedog··on PL/Rust 1.0: now a trusted language for Postgres
Can you give some examples of why you think this? I'm sincerely curious as someone who uses PLPSQL nearly every day and knows it is not perfect, but surprised to hear it is "awful".
cobythedog··on Show HN: Briefsky – a free Dark Sky clone for multiple weather APIs
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Windy (windy.com) offers that: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/windy-com-weather-radar/id1161...
cobythedog··on FTX CEO says company engaged in 'old fashioned embezzlement' under SBF
Is reporting on the findings considered "talking quite a lot of sh$t"?
cobythedog··on iOS 16
You've never read a message with the intention of responding at a later time? I do and if I don't flag it somehow (unread) I will easily forget about it.
cobythedog··on Tesla's Safety Record vs. Volvo
It’s not moot because had Tesla had greater volume, one might be able to more easily justify the higher number of deaths. However the volume is still relatively smaller and therefore the higher number of deaths is still significant.
cobythedog··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2022)
Isn't Earnest owned by Navient? (who just settled a massive predatory loan charge)
cobythedog··on Bitwarden Encrypts Your Data
> it's unfortunate they needed some independent blogger to write up their auth scheme

That's kind of a odd statement, no?

The information is provided by Bitwarden and easily found, for example:

* https://bitwarden.com/help/what-encryption-is-used/

* https://bitwarden.com/blog/end-to-end-encryption-and-zero-kn...

cobythedog··on SolarWind, enough with the password already
> She's wrong to imply that if only SolarWinds had followed her iPad password policy, the attack would have been stopped.

I don't think she was implying that at all. She was highlighting that if they couldn't even do a basic thing like employing stronger, more complex passwords - how could they defend against Russians reading DoD emails.

cobythedog··on Judge: Citibank isn't entitled to $500M it sent to various creditors last August
> Some of the creditors sent the money back. But others refused, leaving Citibank out $500 million.
cobythedog··on When His SR-71 Blackbird Disintegrated, This Pilot Free Fell from Space
Neil Armstrong is not still alive.
cobythedog··on Why I don’t love light rail transit
> Bring back the buses!

I think the 'red transit lane' is a step in that direction:

cobythedog··on Americans can opt out of airport facial recognition
Thanks - I am a native English speaker and I am aware of the origin of the root word. @hprotagonist addresses my confusion.
cobythedog··on Americans can opt out of airport facial recognition
What does it mean to be "digitally penetrated"? I'm not familiar with that.
cobythedog··on Common mistakes in PostgreSQL
The current version (11) does: https://www.postgresql.org/docs/11/sql-createprocedure.html
cobythedog··on Red Hat Satellite to standardize on PostgreSQL backend

cobythedog··on PHP + Ajax scripts or the modern ecosystem dilemma
I feel like I am missing something. Is this just a blog-response to a comment on HN?
cobythedog··on Gut bacteria may offer a treatment for autism
There is no "American diet" as far as I have experienced. Once you travel around the country you find vastly different eating habits and diets.
cobythedog··on Rust 2018 survey results
>Who said it should be picked for web development?

These perhaps?:

https://github.com/SergioBenitez/Rocket

https://github.com/actix/actix-web

https://github.com/carllerche/tower-web

Not saying that is the primary use, but still a valid question as long as these libraries are being built/pushed.

cobythedog··on Goro – An implementation of PHP written in Go
I did not read the comment as advocating for debtors prisons. My understanding is that those were (are) for individuals who cannot pay a debt. Instead, I assume the parent commentor meant something more along the lines of a Bernie Madoff.
cobythedog··on Goro – An implementation of PHP written in Go
He is currently CTO at London Trust Media (owners of Private Internet Access VPN): https://londontrustmedia.com/about/ - (under "Holdings Executive Management")
cobythedog··on Apple Fixes Bagel Emoji
I wish I could use an eye-roll emoji right now...
cobythedog··on Twitter suspends Alex Jones for urging people to keep “battle rifles” ready
I'm not legal expert so I can't be certain, but to a layperson like me it sounds like he is asking people to commit violence:

"mainstream media is the enemy, but now it's time to act on the enemy"

"legally and criminally its time to move against these people"

cobythedog··on Twitter suspends Alex Jones for urging people to keep “battle rifles” ready
What about if the speech involves inciting violence? Is there a line that is drawn?
cobythedog··on Twitter suspends Alex Jones for urging people to keep “battle rifles” ready
What is the alternative? Should the government step in and prevent Twitter from banning its users who are voluntarily using the platform?
cobythedog··on Twitter suspends Alex Jones for urging people to keep “battle rifles” ready
Twitter is a not a government entity, so how is this censorship or leading to it?
cobythedog··on How the “Be.” battery-free toothbrush faked a demonstration video
It appears they may have even faked their first prototype - simply encasing a standard electric toothbrush in a 3D-printed case. That would suggest, at least to me, that they were deceitful from the start.
cobythedog··on Introduction to the Pony programming language
Yep! I suppose I didn't notice the hamburger navigation at the top left.
cobythedog··on Introduction to the Pony programming language
I'm on mobile and I don't see any code or links to code. Is it different on desktop?
cobythedog··on SQLite Query Language: upsert
But we are talking about sqlite, right? By default the database is locked once a write occurs, so there could not be concurrent transactions writing to the database.
