cloudjacker··on Udacity the new ITT Tech?
Sure, if I can short it

When's the IPO, know anybody in Congress to trade the enforcement actions in advance on my behalf?

cloudjacker··on The Steve Jobs email that outlined Apple’s strategy a year before his death
its nice to see that they weren't completely delusional about being behind android

very refreshing to see - at the top - their distortion field is just marketing

unfortunately for that list, they never caught up to android in terms of notifications, something Steve Jobs explicitly called out in 2010, wow.

cloudjacker··on Silicon Valley’s “megacommute” even worse than L.A
A community that was close or far from Google? Because that's what this article is about
cloudjacker··on Why a federal high-tech start-up is a money loser
Such a loaded statement. Taxpayers are never ever ever going to get a good deal on their expropriated funds.

The Treasury and Fed were practically running a hedge fund and the military losses are magnitudes higher

In this case they're a two year old department mimicking silicon Valley and already making money

I wanted to be offended but this is pretty good

cloudjacker··on You can’t fix diversity in tech without fixing the technical interview
> women are 7 times more likely to stop practicing than men

For reference, what is this saying about how many of those that stop practicing are men?

7 times more likely than what? I haven't read the article yet. Any given individual is how likely to 'stop practicing' after a rejection? 10% if man, 70% if woman? 1% if man, 7% if woman?

cloudjacker··on [dead]
it does, it doesn't have to

the network expends vast amounts of electrical energy because people are competing to earn bitcoin from that network. they will even do it at a loss because bitcoin is 9 billion dollars, and can be between 30 and 70 trillion dollars.

if they turned off their machines it would spend less energy on aggregate, and the system would be just as credible, because I would turn my machines on.

cloudjacker··on A Good Way to Grant Equity to Your Employees
We are talking about the hiring process here, being selected at all, how your financial prowess doesn't jive with the culture fit doctrine.
cloudjacker··on Facebook Q3 2016 Results
lack of their ubiquitous use you mean? ios added ad blockers and put the ad sector in a tizzy
cloudjacker··on A Good Way to Grant Equity to Your Employees
> The only reason not to implement the Wealthfront Equity Plan is greed, and greed seldom leads to a good outcome.

Is there a more diplomatic way of saying that? Employees aren't in a position to question the "generous privileges" or "large equity stake" they are being offered.

cloudjacker··on A Good Way to Grant Equity to Your Employees
except you're the one looking for a job
cloudjacker··on On Wall Street, a high-ranking few still avoid email
Now that you got that off of your chest, what does that have to do with this comment thread about them being more transparent?
cloudjacker··on A Good Way to Grant Equity to Your Employees
It is even more unfortunate that this conversation is lost because equity at all is still a fairly unique aspect of the tech industry. So there isn't much empathy for the circumstances.
cloudjacker··on On Wall Street, a high-ranking few still avoid email
Sure when they start accepting public money or get absorbed into the Government Accountability Office
cloudjacker··on In Greece, Property Is Debt
It's not about Greece or the people of Greece or its economy, it is about existing creditors of Greek assets having time to limit exposure and fallout to the broader financial system, as well as provide a framework of deterrents for other large European countries that are practically insolvent
cloudjacker··on In Greece, Property Is Debt
Where have you been for the whole decade

There is no self determination possible for Greece

cloudjacker··on The Mirai Botnet Is Proof the Security Industry Is Broken
> The major botnet of 2016 is simpler than the botnet of 1988. There’s something wrong in how we do security, and at Appcanary, we think it’s a complete lack of focus on the basics.

Or a complete focus on making money. Capitalism has refined itself over 30 years, and firms realize that security is expensive, making products is a lot cheaper than it used to be, and even if you invested in security, there could still be something unforeseen that compromises your system.

Nobody wants to be Sony or Microsoft and their litany of security woes.

cloudjacker··on Keith Ohlfs, NeXTSTEP Designer, has passed away
Hm, do you guys know any doctors that custom tailor lifestyles and treatments for the sedentary lives of software engineers?

I often times find my inquiries dismissed because I'm young and slim.

There's some software to intentionally mess up your writing style for easier anonymity

It is really hard to do that manually

cloudjacker··on GIF Site Giphy Is Valued at $600M

cloudjacker··on Ask HN: What is the best Hackintosh laptop for ios app developers?
do both on the hackintosh

Risk, meet reward

You are debating over contract privileges that aren't even enforced and have very minimal consequences even if they were

cloudjacker··on Ask HN: What is the best Hackintosh laptop for ios app developers?
Getting sued isn't the end of the world

The risk is $400 of hardware and a $99 dev account for the possibility of making way more than that releasing your own apps and making that much on a daily basis developing apps for other people.

Risk meet Reward

cloudjacker··on Publishers Are Rethinking Those ‘Around the Web’ Ads
If only advertising networks had the same disdain that perceived ponzi schemes had

everyone throws money at the click through rate casino, anyone doing studies on their ROI, or do we hand waive it away by saying they were targeting wrong

cloudjacker··on Swiss rail operator to sell bitcoins at its ticket machines
ransomware has been using bitcoin for the last 3 years
cloudjacker··on Swiss rail operator to sell bitcoins at its ticket machines
Exchange rate aside, due to the greater abundance of bitcoins since the last bubble, the market cap is actually near all time highs.
cloudjacker··on Swiss rail operator to sell bitcoins at its ticket machines
Thats good to know and I'm rooting for it, if history is any indicator it will just turn people off of bitcoin.

Most bitcoin vending machines have a variety of poor user experiences let alone the offered prices and limits. So far all I know about this one is the limit is low.

cloudjacker··on It’s Not a Startup Visa, but It’s Close
> If you look at the value and price for US visa, probably price is the highest in history

$500,000? most of which can be an investment you get back later? Nah not the highest, pretty much on par with other countries that sell residency and citizenship

The value is also pretty much on par, IMO, with European programs.

cloudjacker··on Swiss rail operator to sell bitcoins at its ticket machines
yeah you are talking about the concept of bitcoin, I am talking about the concept of putting bitcoin in an antiquated vending machine for buying train tickets (has any one of those EVER impressed you?), one which has a 500 franc daily limit for buying bitcoin (5000 franc yearly limit), and using it to gauge people's interest in bitcoin on a national level

this is an "OOPS" almost as big as when your company spends two hours thinking of a hashtag that nobody will ever use.

cloudjacker··on Swiss rail operator to sell bitcoins at its ticket machines
"To test Switzerland appetite for bitcoin"

It will more likely test the appetite for a poor user experience, high spreads and fees and be a conclusion that people don't have much appetite for cryptocurrency
