cjoelrun··on How did DOGE disrupt so much while saving so little?
Immune systems of all interested triggered.
cjoelrun··on Apple Vision Pro upgraded with M5 chip
Similar. I use this as a traveling external monitor. I have a face that works well without the face seal and with the old dual band: Counter weighted with the back of my head in a way that floats the headset over my nose/face. Going back to squeezing this onto my face like the old knit band seems like it would go backwards in comfort. How can anyone have this pressed against their face for 8+ hours?
cjoelrun··on Reading for pleasure plummets by 40% in the US
It's got a lot of competition.
cjoelrun··on Ask HN: What would convince you to take AI seriously?
Unless it’s their business to make/use said AI? Which will likely be a lot of businesses.
cjoelrun··on Strap In, Vision Pro Owners
If only it was more comfortable I'd really use it for everything and all the time. For work with my Macbook as an external monitor. And with built in apps lounging around as you would an iPad, phone or Apple TV.

Useful LLM architectures for working on complex codebases seem to be out the reach of consumer hardware.
cjoelrun··on AI-driven robot installs nearly 10k solar modules in Australia
This is it. The robots can power themselves now. When shall we black out the sun then?
cjoelrun··on Amazon Rules Out Displaying Tariff Impact After White House Attack
How would showing this information help their business? Wouldn't you avoid purchasing if it might go down later?
cjoelrun··on Elon Musk is wrong about GDP
Given that we print dollars and other countries demand on dollars make that ok for now -> We can make bricks out of the paper money and call that GDP. More money brick factory jobs!
cjoelrun··on I want to work for an entrepreneur who has awakened spiritually
Criticize by creating the change you want.
cjoelrun··on Tesla Used Car Price Crashes – Model Y, Model 3 Deals Explode
They chose to focus on Model Y because a new design just came out. Apples to apples comparison 90 day change of prices Model 3: -4.41% to Ioniq 6: -3.38%. Both mid range electrics. I'm always looking for a deal. Nothing spectacular yet.

cjoelrun··on We found a DOGE guy at NASA because his Google Calendar was public
In consulting/finance isn't everybody started at VP level to make clients feel at ease.
cjoelrun··on Apple starts pushing AirPods owners into Transparency mode, with no easy opt out
My Airpod Pros literally screech at an unsafe noise level if they're in Transparency or Noise Cancellation. I think some part of them got damaged ruining any kind of processing. I've been able to continue to use the in the Off mode for over a year. Hope this isn't too annoying to opt out of.
cjoelrun··on Lead and cadmium found in muscle-building protein powders, report says
Some resources I've used: https://www.consumerlab.com/ https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.com/pages/coas#certs

When my partner wants to watch TV and I just want to work next to them; As a portable monitor that isn't socially acceptable outside living areas.
cjoelrun··on Hacker leaks millions more 23andMe user records on cybercrime forum
Probably also because sign up for the product is done through their app rather then a browser where people have password managers handy.
cjoelrun··on Why human societies developed so little during 300k years
Seems a little romanticized. Kind of like people who like the idea of homesteading, until they do it. Everything is a tradeoff of problems, never an elimination of all problems. I'd prefer to have modern societal problems, but power to you if you can make hunter gathering or homesteading work for you.
cjoelrun··on Ask HN: What is going on with Charles Schwab? Stock drop near 40% post SVB chaos

Does that separate retail from corporate?
cjoelrun··on Apple headset leak reveals new details and confirms earlier rumors
Take my money? I just want a mobile desktop environment that I can set up anywhere. I have strange places I need to do work and the hunched over laptop situation is killing me.
cjoelrun··on The school that grants your PhD thinks it’s too good to hire you
It's mostly an excuse. They're looking for reputation or monetary gain. If you have grants waiting to write a check to an institution or some high individual reputation that the university can claim as their own this excuse of cross-pollination disappears.
cjoelrun··on As Carvana crashes, used car dealers, not buyers, stand to win big
You pay a non insignificant amount more for this experience. Not that it isn't worth it to some people, you don't get a horrible price you're just guaranteed not a low price. True about the entire haggle free market though.
cjoelrun··on Low nutritional quality in vegetarian meat substitutes
Try making your own once rather then buying from store. The flavors developed are rich in comparison.
