Curious how long the crypto.com arena will stay with that name, one year into the naming rights lease…

chrismckleroy··on Be curious, not judgmental
Also, PMs and engineers that don’t actively use and love their product can be subject to laziness - finding the most simple passable direct solution and implementing that - just to go home at 4:20.

Sure, yes, empathize don’t judge, but also, let’s acknowledge the human tendencies as non-owners to DGAF - especially in this current age of the worker questioning everything.

I overestimated; we should be paying 3x more for meat than we do at retail.

chrismckleroy··on Plant-based meat deceleration signals niche future
It’s extremely tough to compete with a subsidized industry. A burger should cost $45, not $6, but with incentives, this is the reality.
chrismckleroy··on Human stories behind emoji designs
Can someone please help with binocular emoji? That is woven in the story of my life here.
chrismckleroy··on Retracing a Donner Party path, nearly two centuries later
Came for the map of the path. As someone who’s crossed the Donner pass hundreds of times, I’d really like to see it and perhaps ski tour part of it this spring.
chrismckleroy··on Tech elites leaving San Francisco threaten Silicon Valley's supremacy
“Better weather” I can’t help but laugh. One of five Mediterranean climates worldwide, built on apricot orchards, formerly home to one of the most diverse animal and again ecosystems before the arrival of whites. It’s really hard to beat the weather in Silicon Valley. It’s almost non seasonal, anything grows. The diversity currently of this area is very high, it’s the home of top universities, between the two cross pollination of ideas happens non stop. As a “tech person” who lived in 10 years, and just moved away in March, well, it’s nice to move away, but damn, miss the weather.
chrismckleroy··on Mountain Beavers and Control of Mountain Beaver Damage (2005)
California subspecies is endangered, and I can attest, having grown up in Tahoe on a street named Beaver Dam Trail, we haven’t seen beavers in the valley for decades.

So true. Which really makes that Pantani position solid, as you are resting chest on seat and eyes are forward.

chrismckleroy··on Product Zeitgeist Fit
Valid way to look at the world through the VC lens. I recently launched Nocs (nocsprovisions.com) - a styled, branded update on the age old product of binoculars, small and high quality built for the traveler/weekend warrior nature explorer in mind. There was not one pure target market, rather it just seemed aligned with the consensus to disconnect and “go outside and explore nature” vibe that exists in SF and the coastal cities today. Designed product, built brand + product, shipped XXXX, build more! Not in much of ways for scale but a fun adventure in PZF.
chrismckleroy··on Two Years of Vanlife: A Retrospective
As a skier and mountain biker, this content is incredible!!! Thank you. I imagine pinkbike would post this on their home page in and instant!! This is awesome, if you make it to SF, try to ride Pacifica, and Skeggs, and Fairfax.
chrismckleroy··on About Windy (2018)
Love Windy. Use it for surf condition predictions. Better than Surfline!
chrismckleroy··on If You Run a Small Business, Park in the Back of the Parking Lot
In reference to making it hard to quit a service... "In reality, it is a great way to ensure a customer never comes back and likely does not recommend the company to others. This approach is trading short term greed for long term growth. A leader obsessed with customer experience would make sure canceling their service is painless as it will likely lead to revenue in other ways -- counterintuitive right?"

I want to believe. But seeing how painful it is to leave Facebook + iCloud, I find this hard to believe. It feels idealistic, but I wonder if the data says otherwise. People are lazy. It's unethical. But people are lazy.
