chris_l··on The Power of Ridiculous Reasons
Vote me up because I read the dilbert strip today
chris_l··on Ask HN: Hackers And Founders In Boston
I'd like to see custom search by relevant fields, e.g. location, (computer) languages, areas of experience, positions held, interests

Business networking site XING also has user's list what they are currently looking for and offering

chris_l··on Ask HN: Hackers And Founders In Boston
YC isn't in that business really. But as the source is open, we could do it ourselves...
chris_l··on Hacker News is 2
Actually it feels to me like it's been around for much longer than 2 years... don't know what that means though
chris_l··on Poll: How do you support technology decisions?
The background is that after doing some thorough evaluations (and debriefings) for my last startup, I thought this must be re-done over and over by founders. So I'm considering making some kind of for-pay info-product aimed at tech founders. Also looking for authors ;)
chris_l··on Do you know why rms didn't start with a kernel?
Just because you don't "extract" any value, to use the MBA term, does not mean you did not deliver it.
chris_l··on Nuclear submarines collide in Atlantic
I posted this because I think this is the best place to collect some opinions about the likelihood of the official story and speculation on what really happened.

Such a collision in 3d underwater space seem exceedingly unlikely, without additional constraints.

chris_l··on Do you know why rms didn't start with a kernel?
You can deliver value without being paid for it. For example by raising a child.
chris_l··on US Military Will Offer Path To Citizenship
The idea behind this is not immigration but empire. The countries you mention have or still do identify with the latter, the US less so.
chris_l··on Remind YC: It's Valentine's Day. Don't forget the flowers and card for your s.o.
Insensitive clod! ;)
chris_l··on Ask YC: Favorite blogs?
gapingvoid.com, especially "How to be creative" bill clementson's lispy blog
chris_l··on Ask HN: How to programmatically observe program execution?
Thanks, the latter two sound good. Pin seems to be a too generic acronym to Google it, what does it stand for?
chris_l··on Ask HN: How to programmatically observe program execution?
Thanks, meanwhile I have just stumbled up on ptrace which also looks promising.

My application is to visualise the execution of programs, for which I want to ideally capture everything the processor does and generalise what I see...

chris_l··on Now this is a busy dashboard...
"Top words being used online: the"

Is this some kind of parody?

chris_l··on Nuclear Apocalypse and the Letter of Last Resort
"On the other hand, if the potential foe thought that we might not retaliate once the threat served no purpose—that retaliatory "deterrence" would, in essence, turn out to be a bluff—it would encourage those disposed to strike first to cause a nuclear holocaust without fear of reprisal. We had to threaten genocide—and convince people we meant to carry out our threat—in order to prevent genocide."

Well, that's what that letter is about. Not having to build such behaviour into the system while remaining ambiguous about the threat.

chris_l··on Ask HN: Which school do you attend?
Cambridge University (alum)
chris_l··on Ask HN: What can't you do in Excel?
For conventional programming I've been working on laying the logic out as a graph automatically. Instead of cryptic formulas in the cells, you would have an easy to understand graph that shows how information is related and computed. In addition the intermediate results for selected input values could be shown next to the nodes and links, to allow inspection of the computation.

This could be adapted for the spreadsheet concept. Actually, it might be more appropriate there.

chris_l··on Ask HN: Remedies for RSI?
That's why it's necessary to have an AT teacher for a while, to help you develop awareness of your posture, etc.
chris_l··on Ask HN: Remedies for RSI?
Alexander Technique worked for me. But it is not miracle cure, you have to work on yourself to make it work. A one line takeaway is that you're probably doing something too hard as a matter of habit when typing.
chris_l··on Ask YC: Gap year ideas?
WWOOFing
chris_l··on Ask HN: would you (founders) use this service?
Also: how do you currently solve this problem, if you do. And if you don't, how do you feel about staying within your own country?
chris_l··on MIT Admissions Office sets up forum for rejected applicants
I'm surprised how soon they get a reply (for admission next fall, right)? I applied for grad school there recently, does anyone know if the chances are better or worse? :)
chris_l··on Ask HN: Where does consciousness come from?
Consciousness is the brain sensing the mind of the world. But that's just my speculation :)
chris_l··on Ask HN: Where does consciousness come from?
Intelligence != Consciousness
chris_l··on How do you generate passive income?
There's no such thing as a free meal.
chris_l··on Ask YC: Verifying Gender
I think there might be a security hole in that one...
chris_l··on Ask YC: What would you tell your younger self?
Surrender. Don't fight reality, go with it.
chris_l··on Anyone have experience with this theft-protection system?
It sounds just like what I would build for myself if I had the time, but does it meet what it claims to do?
chris_l··on Google Chrome Comics
I love the way they use the comic strip format to explain software, very fresh.
chris_l··on Google Chrome Comics
Never been up a dead end conceptually?
