chris-at··on Ask HN: Should I fight back management enforcing Jira?
Take a look at Bitrix - IMO it's better (and cheaper) than Jira for small teams.

chris-at··on Google thinks the sun is 15.81 light years from earth
Isn't the earth flat in burgenland?
chris-at··on Microsoft to acquire LinkedIn for $26B
I for one welcome our new Windows overlords!

Let's hope they pull another Nokia with this, er, beloved company.

> But requiring a phone number for an internet instant messenger is still a deal breaker even with Chromium as an alternative.

Why is that? There's nothing about it in their faq.

chris-at··on Hjson, the Human JSON
Of course you have to get the information from somewhere the first time you learn something. What's the problem with that?

chris-at··on Show HN: Buy My House
I'm selling my house and discovered that the options in Austria are either boring (just pictures) or expensive.

So I

- rented a Theta camera and took pictures of every room + outdoors

- made up a DSL to define a grid with connecting rooms

- used that to generate scenes for Pannellum (which I tweaked a bit)

- made some clickable svg maps (strangly this was not as easy as I thought)

- and put a bit of bootstrap over it

You can view the result here: http://kaufmeinhaus.at

Pannellum is great btw, see https://pannellum.org

Let me know if you are interested and I'll try to put the code on github.

chris-at··on Bash on Ubuntu on Windows
Microsoft has always been great at naming things!

chris-at··on Five hundred days using Ubuntu Phone
What does "33 minutes talk time" on http://www.ubuntu.com/phone/devices mean?

Why does it show that on the lock screen?

chris-at··on Backslash must die
> the vast majority of people [..] believe backslashes are the way to go

Not sure you got that right. I'm certain there are more people that use forward slashed in a browser (every OS+mobile) than people who type backslashes in Windows.

My mother has used Windows for years and doesn't even know where the backslash character is. She can type URLs though.

chris-at··on Backslash must die
Did you try it on Windows 10? If I try to open a file `i:/foo/bar/test.txt` I get `The file name is not valid` (from Notepad)
chris-at··on Backslash must die
You should say it 'works sometimes'.

I actually forgot where it works because

- if I try to open a file `i:/foo/bar/test.txt` I get `The file name is not valid` (from Notepad)

- if I try to open a folder `i:/foo/bar` I get `The folder name is not valid`

- if I try to `cd /foo/bar` I get `The system cannot find the path specified.`

chris-at··on Opt Out From Online Behavioral Advertising By Participating Companies
I wrote Vanilla Cookie Manager years ago to clear cookies. I've always wanted to clear local storage as well but they have left me hanging since 2011:

chris-at··on Show HN: MapHub – A Google My Maps Alternative, Based on OpenStreetMap Data
just some feedback: I got stuck in the tutorial at "Give a title to your map." - it just sits there and won't go away (no next button). yes, I gave it a title.
chris-at··on Changes to Npm's unpublish policy
This addresses unpublishing but what happens to (dubious/real) trademark claims under this new policy?

Would this keep kik in the registry instead of forcing the dev to give it up?

chris-at··on PDF viewer that works inside terminals that support inline graphics
Would this work via ssh as well?
chris-at··on JSON5 – JSON for the ES5 Era
You got that wrong. Any JSON is also valid Hjson.
chris-at··on Ask HN: Couldn't HN Submit say a link was already submitted even if title gt 80?
thanks!
chris-at··on Sublime Text got a new Forum
But sadly no new release.
chris-at··on Hjson, the Human JSON
YAML is too complex. Hjson tries to be simple, like JSON.
chris-at··on Atom text editor 1.4 released
Cool. Got to resurrect my plugins :)

chris-at··on "Free Basics" - Myths and Facts
OT but our company firewall does this as well. You can't use https unless you install a internal root cert. Never understood how this can be legal.

chris-at··on Show HN: Wundermilk
I almost didn't make this because the RTM client isn't bad, it's just that looking like iOS 6 didn't help my motivation (a personal taste). I was still surprised that moving your tasks from one system to another required so much effort.
