Its not just here, its unfortunately common with firefox. I still cant believe that firefox just silently disables addons if they are no longer supported instead of giving a giant colorful warning.

Determine how much calories you get to eat a day to not gain weight. Not to loose weight but also not gaining weight. Once you are capable to hold your weight and understand what gets you how many calories, you reduce. Dont hurry, just get a bit under. Its a marathon not a sprint. No one martyred them self to death in a few month with 200 kcal less a day.
>Research shows that traditional diets have extremelly low compliance rates.
We also have an extremely high rate of jojo eaters. If you never learned to stick to your sustaining energy level when eating, you will go right back up again once you stop with something like intermittent fasting. Or do you really want to do that for the rest of your life? The sad reality is people get just enough motivation to try one of those mystic new fades and are emotionally wrecked when they cant handle the strict regime. Or they keep going and treat them self afterwards. There is no shortcut around learning to eat right, they would have been better off to slowly get their problem under control instead of a desperate hail mary. There is no short term fix for your problem you need long term change. Once you get a stable intake, sure try intermittent fasting to loose more quicker. But remember that you are not going back to before but to your sustaining level. That part isnt optional you arent just dieting you are changing your food intake permanently. If you never learned to just watch your calories and tricked yourself into loosing weight you are screwed. I dont see how intermittent fasting can be seen as a first go to. You need to introduce a diet before you can change your diet. In other words, not "just a few more month" but "Congratulations, this is the new normal now."
I think the question pushs on an underlying issue, namely how many people start up with plateau breakers and torture themselves instead of following a simple diet.
So the question is, what is this intermittent fasting? Is it just a psychological trick to get you to stick to your diet? Is your brain tricked into wanting less food or are you tricking your body into loosing more weight? As far as i understand it, its more then just a mind trick to stick to your diet. That is where the comparison with the - 8,6% reduction would come in great. But i doubt you would get much information with just comparing the absolute losses instead of looking at the individuals and how far they are into weight loss.
All of our progress since the industrial revolution was made possible by cheap/free energy. Once we run out of everything from energy to fertilizer to metals to sand to our ecosystem and its biodiversity, there will be no slowing down, there will be collapse. Without fossil fuel based fertilizers we can say goodbye to the idea of food safety. Especially since modern fertilizers are the only thing that allows the dirt we use instead of actual soil to grow anything. And despite that we are still burning this stuff for personal transportation and having ingenious ideas like growing biofuel, of course also unsustainable in overexploitation. Because fuck yeah! Better yet, we are actually trying to replace oil in the transport and energy sectors with natural gas. The natural gas we need to not be faced with an incredible productivity decrease in food production. Its like people are straight up mad, we are talking about electric cars replacing fossil fuel to keep our transportation network running, and of course the freedom of getting to drive around in your own car. Completely ignoring how many batteries we could actually build before we run out of lithium without an real option for recycling. We were all born right in time to witness the waste of the last few hopes we have for decelerating and long term survival of human civilization on a few more years of unsustainable growth. And the best part, none of this was inevitable. And none of it is a surprise.

Not to mention one of its awardees, Hayek.

The point is what changed is the perception of your emotions. Instead of feeling stuck following your every negative thought you suddenly realize that you can influence how you feel. You dont just feel better then before, you arent still high, you found a way to influence how you feel. You are no longer stuck to the road, but realized that you can leave the road, turn the autopilot off. The way you deal with emotions has changed fundamentally by leaving the observer role. And who are we if not our actions. I would also say, anything that makes me decide to be a more aware and happier person is a fundamentally positive development as it gives me the opportunity for more meaningful decisions. And with me being happy, these decisions will likely be positive.
At the core of this question is your view on humankind. I dont think happier more self reflective people are a bad development. I think the best way to make the world a better place is by making more people happy. I think you have a higher capacity for doing good things for others if you arent miserable yourself, if you arent just coping with day to day life. And you have better chances to reduce bad unintended consequences if you work on being more self reflective.
I think the examples you bring are more caused by reevaluating ones moral compass then by changing how you function.
So on that level, sure, journalism isnt a profitable career option. The stuff that you do get paid for likely can also be done be anyone else who can handle the advertisement financed industry. Its the basic crux of the problem, journalism isnt profitable. Trying to solve that problem by trusting the market will leave us without professional journalism.
We dont have a generation conflict yet, but if the government keeps ignoring the issue in the hope of it becoming the next generations problem there will be one. Looking at the debate on climate change, where the question what the current generation 50+ is leaving us behind, I hope we will be talking about pensions as well.
The Pinephone is at its core a proof of concept made cheaply available to jump start development for open source linux smartphones. Once its shown to be working we can talk about every day competitors to existing smartphones, but thats at least a generation away. Librem is trying to achieve this to begin with by marketing it to privacy and security conscious users. I am really curious if that will succeed, but i fear people will expect it to match the comfort of their current smartphones at that price, which is a really difficult thing to do. Looking at history, it took a while till Linux became a realistic option as an OS for a home computer for people who dont consider them self geeks. The pinephone isnt reaching for the moon but makes the first step.
To the other point, this will be my first smartphone as well and is intended for daily use, just not with GPS, LTE and SMS.
I think just posting the link here gave the wrong impression. Its an open Linux phone with HW-Killswitches. If that sentence on its own doesnt have you grin like a kid on Christmas, its likely not yet the device for you. But as was often said when talking about the Pinephone, its a start. At this point the target demographic is still developers not people who are looking for an open source replacement of their current smartphone. Its why the batch is called "brave heart". While there are operating systems booting on it already, the expectations Pine set when the developers edition came out were rather low.
>The detachable back panel – which covers the privacy switches, pogo pins and the removable battery – is made of a durable soft-touch plastic.

edit: You can see them at the first link (picture "PinePhone mainboard + daughterboard (prototype) "), its the little switches above the sdcard reader
Hardware switches for almost everything and open source software :D
Speeding on the other hand is reckless endangerment, if you are to fast, your stopping distance will become to short for the given environment. As a result, you will run over a kid if one crosses the street at a dangerous position. You driving to fast at this position will have the effect of a run over kid, with the only variables being whether or not a kid is just crossing the street at this point. You already made the decision to drive to fast to have a sufficient stopping distance. Your similar decision of taking drugs doesnt have inherent consequences, it only has an influence of the decisions you make after that, for example a drunk barfight. The same could however also be said for other things which influence your mood.
Driving under the influence is a much better comparison to speeding than druguse itself. Not sleeping enough is not dangerous, however driving while dozing off is
All of this not to mention that, while it makes sense for Firefox, the thought that my donation to develop Firefox ended up in some marketing budget irks me deep down.
With all the upsides, it is however still necessary to warn of the dangers of taking mushrooms without knowing what to expect or taking care for set and setting. If you are thinking about taking psychedelics I can recommend the book "The Psychedelic Explorer's Guide: Safe, Therapeutic, and Sacred Journeys", though you should better be taking a guided trip with someone who has the experience and who you trust.
