ceroxylon··on An Alien Mind
The slime mold comparison is interesting, I normally use the analogy of a drug addict... humans shun drug addicts but humanity as a whole sure does behave like one, trudging down an unsustainable path despite knowing better.
ceroxylon··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
I suppose they have to appeal to average users, but the examples in the videos are always so corny. By "AGI" they mean you sitting on a couch and asking a robot to draw a rocket ship... and then make it into an uninspired game with Blender? Boring marketing campaigns? Ebay listings?

One would expect something like "review my graduate thesis for a new area of cancer research", but it is always some boring non-tasks like ordering lunch.

ceroxylon··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
The thing with Fable-level models is that I will never feel comfortable using them for agentic tasks on a pay-as-you-go API pricing plan without monitoring them strictly, which becomes a chore.

I once caught Fable 5 spinning its wheels on a rendering issue, which evaporated 90% of my usage in a single prompt. I could never let Fable run free attached to a credit card without staring at it the whole time.

ceroxylon··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
The kinds of banner ads that exist now are atrocious, as bad as they have ever been. Anything that masquerades as a legitimate internet or site service should be banned, I really detest the ones that are simply some sort of fake captcha, sign in, etc.

They must pay the best because so many old forums that are/were near and dear to my heart use them to pay for servers, hopefully because they only saw the profit number and didn't consider the consequences, but you never know.

ceroxylon··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
What's interesting is that they are trying to make a larger political point, but after boiling away all the nuance into such an aggressive and misguided statement, it makes me not want to engage at all.

Is there a term for this? Ensnarkification? I see it on X and bsky all the time.

ceroxylon··on Show HN: We built open OpenRouter that turns usage into a better model
>The gateway adds under 1 ms for BYOK requests

Amazing! Really brilliant idea, thank you for sharing this project. There is so much ground to cover in the LLM gateway / routing / reporting world, and this is a great start. The Tinker implementation is my favorite part, fine tuning is much better than a sea of context files.

ceroxylon··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
A dark shadow moves over the meadow…
ceroxylon··on My Friend Aaron
Ooo you are in for a treat, it is old enough that it is easy to catch for free on streaming services, it will be a very trippy watch in 2026

Good point and thank you, I should have specified ongoing/constant rocket launches.

The Solar City timeline should have taught us everything we need to know about these astronomical projections... they couldn't even throw enough billions at solar panels that kinda look like roof tiles to get them to work, and the same cabal wants us to think the next step is space travel and terraforming?

ceroxylon··on My Friend Aaron
Very good from start to finish, it reminds me of a darker version of the real story told in the 2009 documentary We Live In Public about Josh Harris.
ceroxylon··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
I want to like Bluesky but have run into the same issue with politics as you.

Worse yet, people get so blinded that they lose the plot entirely... I asked someone about the accounting of a Palestinian fund raiser they were promoting.

They got very defensive so I looked into it, and it was a scam. I pointed this out to the poster to let them know, and they wrote a snide response which got their followers to brigade me.

ceroxylon··on Starbase, LA
I agree, and the premise is that we're supposed to believe the remaining waterfowl are going to coexist peacefully with... rocket launches?

Evolution has done stranger things, but my bet is that the birds will find somewhere else to be over learning to not be startled by nearby earth-rumbling explosions.

ceroxylon··on Scrap (2006)
I am not affiliated with them beyond deciding to host my thoughts from adolescence with them in the dial-up days, but Diaryland.com is still a thing.
ceroxylon··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
The service has been 10/10, everything has felt easy and natural since the start and continually improving. I often learn about new models from OR, and have been a happy customer for years. Kudos for getting the proper recognition, $8B is a fair price in 2026 imo.
ceroxylon··on Claude: System Prompts
Usually things are flagged on HN for firm reasons and not emotional ones, even if the reasoning isn't transparent.

And while we are off topic, if we could get 1% of the ire of data center haters pointed at the fast fashion / textile industry, lawns or alfalfa production... we might gain some meaningful ground on sane water usage.

ceroxylon··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
Thank you for pointing this out, I was looking at the first like 'Umm Simon... there isn't even a pelican?"
ceroxylon··on The Psychedelic Toad of the Sonoran Desert
Have you compared it to the synthetic 5-MeO-DMT experience and if so, is there a noticeable difference in your experience?
ceroxylon··on Aristotle quotes on virtue, knowledge, and happiness
Funnily enough, people attributing "smart sounding" quotes to Aristotle has been a headache for historians for as long as Aristotle's writing has been around. The more things change...
ceroxylon··on Gemini Robotics 2 brings whole body intelligence to robots
So glad to see that you are still involved and have your inspiring enthusiasm! Meeting you was a huge inflection point in my journey with ML/AI.
ceroxylon··on Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6
As well as the existing intelligence being swayed by emotions, hormones, circadian rhythms, stress, peer pressure, propaganda, and survival instincts.
ceroxylon··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
Very true, it is difficult to even find an opening for the training to start the process, the schools are limited and have short enrollment windows that are fiercely competitive (at least in California).
ceroxylon··on The Strongest El Niño Ever
Climate migration as an individual is not a viable solution to the problem we face, regardless of the method of travel.
ceroxylon··on The Strongest El Niño Ever
No offense, but using air travel to avoid climate impacts is a bit ironic and part of the reason we’re in this mess.

No need to fix the root cause, I’ll just fly somewhere cold during the summer /s

ceroxylon··on Qwen 3.8
To the downvoters: this was a genuine, good faith question.
ceroxylon··on Qwen 3.8
Does HuggingFace not have trusted partner verification? Or is it that even with that verification the content of the messages is still blocked because they are attack commands?
ceroxylon··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
Anthropic (and probably OpenAI) can technically flag anything for 'safety' and view it, I'm not trying to imply that they are doing it arbitrarily, but they do have a way to do it within the ToS as far as I understand (happy to be proven wrong).
ceroxylon··on NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook
Fable in Cowork can get stuck in loops, I've had a single prompt use 83% of a session quota on a single prompt before I realized something was amiss.

Its explanation: "the wasted tokens came from re-rendering the document to verify layout after a page-orientation bug."

ceroxylon··on How we can reduce traffic congestion
Happy that research time is being put towards this, however a fuel use decrease of ~0.75% is a bit underwhelming for this particular endeavor, even when consumer cars/vans are 10% of CO2 emissions.
ceroxylon··on GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra produces proof of the Cycle Double Cover Conjecture [pdf]
I resonate with that feeling, but on the other hand the humans reading the output will receive a pretty big boost in inspiration; new answers usually prompt new questions.
