cdransf··on US approves Google plan to let political emails bypass Gmail spam filter
I mean, the volume is absolutely an issue but it looks like they failed to configure DKIM/DMARC/SPF and this is a lazy policy end run around a gap in technical knowledge. I'm not surprised, but it is a bit amusing.

_Can_ whine to the FEC, _can't_ find a vendor that knows how to configure DNS records for sending email.
cdransf··on Instagram can track anything you do on any website in their in-app browser
If you insist on running Meta's spyware on your devices you can also use a service like nextDNS to block trackers at the device DNS level: https://apple.nextdns.io
cdransf··on Fixing Safari iCloud Syncing
I love Apple’s ecosystem when it works, but when it fails the lack of transparency as to what’s actually going on really hurts the experience.
cdransf··on Fixing Safari iCloud Syncing
Glad it helped! I’ve been fighting with it for longer than I’d care to admit.
cdransf··on Migrating to Fastmail
You can use custom domains, but unfortunately they don't do access/service based subscriptions. Domain docs are at https://www.fastmail.help/hc/en-us/articles/360058753394
cdransf··on DOJ plans to strike against encryption while the Techlash iron is hot
As soon as law enforcement is granted any exceptional access they’ll go on to claim they need more access and less oversight.

As soon as they’re granted such access it will become an irreversible status quo.

cdransf··on Google Will Collapse
I'd imagine it's much more likely that Brave will collapse.
cdransf··on Firefox Personal Data Promise
Sure, but it undermines their public opposition to Google and their practices. DuckDuckGo appears to operate just fine on Fastmail.

I wish they didn't use G Suite:

cdransf··on Dogs demonstrate the existence of an epileptic seizure odour in humans
Interesting stuff. My grandmother has had seizures for decades following a head injury in a softball game. Her and my grandfather at one point rescued a Great Dane mix and over time he would begin to lean on her before a seizure would come on and would then stay by her until she came out of it.
cdransf··on Eliminating Robocalls
I generally don't answer any number that's not in my contacts. If I don't know who it is they can leave a message or I'll look up the number and block it proactively.
cdransf··on Eliminating Robocalls
I use Robokiller on iOS -- it screens the calls and answers spam with prerecorded scripts paced to match response times and then sends me the recording of the interaction.
cdransf··on Apple becomes the first $1T company
My grandparents bought and still own Apple stock from their IPO. Seems like good news for them.
cdransf··on PG&E wildfire state bill blasted as bailout by some, deemed vital by others
Sorry to hear it. We had our wedding there and we're glad it was well documented, but it was devastating all the same.
cdransf··on PG&E wildfire state bill blasted as bailout by some, deemed vital by others
My mother in law lost her home in the Butte Fire that was also a result of negligence on the part of PG&E. They don't deserve a bailout of any kind.
cdransf··on Which Tech Giant Would You Drop?
Facebook.
cdransf··on LA Times and ads
It likely just removes the pay wall. Even subscribers would likely benefit from using an ad blocker.
cdransf··on How Noisy Is Your Neighborhood?
Having lived in LA, you do get used to the noise but I don't miss it now that I've left. There were helicopters overhead constantly, neighbors shouting at all hours, cars and sirens. Now I hear animals and the occasional train passing by. It's been a really nice change.
cdransf··on Dropbox on Mac now updates itself with a process in background
This doesn't seem any worse than Chrome continually updating itself.
cdransf··on Tech workers find communal living a solution for high rents
As much as I like visiting the Bay Area, the cost of living is one of many reasons I'd never consider living there.
cdransf··on Should I buy a WordPress Theme or Make my site from raw?
I'd build something new for the sake of learning more during the process. I'd also suggest expanding your horizons beyond WordPress to other CMS' and static site generators.
cdransf··on [dead]
Having someone as utterly unhinged as Bannon in a position of power is terrifying for any number of reasons.
cdransf··on Goodbye Mac App Store
At this point Apple may as well just shutter the Mac App Store and bring back the software update utility. The restrictions the place on apps in the store are too onerous and are inconsistent with the nature of the platform.
cdransf··on How Trump and Bannon Could Automate Populism
This is the kind of thing that would require a basic understanding of technology that this administration lacks.
cdransf··on Healthy California Act: proposal to make findings about single-payer healthcare
Anything that moves us beyond the gross waste and incompetence of insurance and medical billing is a good thing.

My wife and I had a few recent medical issues crop up and, despite having decent coverage, have had to deal with chasing down providers and third parties who consistently fail to bill even the most basic procedures properly.

I'd much rather pay more in taxes to have the knowledge we'd be safely covered without dealing with the headache of endless middlemen who add no value to the system.

cdransf··on L.A. keeps building near freeways, even though living there makes people sick
Having lived in and now moved out of LA, I can't really think of anything that would make me want to go back. The air quality is an issue, as are the terrible commutes (which can only be avoided by living within a few miles of where you work — not easy when more than one person in the household works).
cdransf··on L.A. keeps building near freeways, even though living there makes people sick
Simi Valley is a great option, as are the other communities in Ventura County, depending on how far out you want to commute from.
cdransf··on Apple's Plan to Own the Entire Music Industry
True -- I tried it when I came out but I can't see myself going back. I appreciate the artist-focused approach to the platform and the focus on radio, but I had to have a phone replaced because of the app when it was initially launched (it caused the phone to heat up to the point the battery was damaged and Apple replaced it).
cdransf··on Apple's Plan to Own the Entire Music Industry
They haven't done anything better with Apple Music though. The client for the phone and for OS X are both atrocious. The experience is significantly worse than the experience provided by Spotify and other competitors.
