carlycue··on Make Something Wonderful – Steve Jobs in his own words
From the outside looking in, founder CEO’s like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk are enigmas. They are able to convince the most brilliant human beings to devote their lives to them. That’s their real talent. Their belief in their mission is so strong and their confidence is unshakable. I wonder what mix of nurture and nature produces human beings like this. Out of billions of people, a handful are born this way.

carlycue··on The new Microsoft Teams, now in preview
This is anecdotal evidence but I have never seen a person use Microsoft 365 suite of Apps in real life. It’s always Google web apps and Slack. Who is this mysterious Microsoft customer that has made them the 2nd most valuable company in the world?
carlycue··on Using ChatGPT Plugins with LLaMA
OpenAI with 400 employees are breaking Google’s ankles on the court. What do you guys think? Is Google in trouble? Their entire business model is in jeopardy. If Google releases a oroduct as as good as ChatGPT 4, which is unlikely, they’ll kill their revenue. If they don’t release it, they’ll gradually lose market share. They are in an unwinnable situation.

carlycue··on How Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant Lost the A.I. Race
I watched the “Introducing GPT-4” on the OpenAI YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/TxkJMX0KyS0) and you see top of the line MacBook Pro’s and Apple Watches all over the place in their offices. I bet most of them have iPhones too.

The moral of the story is, all Apple care about is selling you hardware. It has made no dent in their business or brand that Siri is awful.

carlycue··on The new Bing runs on OpenAI’s GPT-4
That’s great idea. Thanks for sharing
carlycue··on The new Bing runs on OpenAI’s GPT-4
The problem with ChatGPT in Bing is, you can only write 2000 characters.
carlycue··on AI for developers and Google Workspace
Can't wait for Google to add ChatGPT-like features to Chrome and their suite of Web Apps so I can finally ditch Microsoft Edge with it's ChatGPT integration. The UI of Edge is god awful. It has the same issue as Explorer in Windows where Microsoft thinks showing you all UI buttons and other UI elements at once is a great idea. Microsoft can't make compelling consumer facing products to save their life.
carlycue··on Tim Cook bets on Apple’s mixed-reality headset to secure his legacy
The Apple Watch wasn’t quite ready for launch either. Apple didn’t know how to market it or what the hell to do with it. It took them a few generations to zone in on health and fitness and the rest is history.

The Apple VR headset has been in development for 7 years. They need to release it now and see how the world is using it and tweak it accordingly. It’s going to drastically improve the product.

carlycue··on Emacs on an iPad
The M1 on the Mac unintentionally killed iPad as laptop replacement for a lot of people.

Around 2015-2019, Macs were terrible. They overheated, theottled and had loud fans. At the same time, the iPad Pro was dead silent, lighter, faster and had better battery life.

Today, the M1 MacBook Air gets all those goodies and you get a nice keyboard and a capable OS. The battery life is also twice as long as an iPad Pro.

Apple needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat to pull the iPad ahead again.

This is a friendly reminder that the only well run companies are led by Satya Nadella and Tim Cook. Alphabet and Meta are like two spoiled children that got rich quick and don't know what it's like to go through an existential crisis.

carlycue··on Intel enters a new era of chiplets
Apple Silicon will have the title of world's best designed silicon for the foreseeable future. The only way for AMD and Intel to be competitive is if they can match the performance/watt, thin-ness, fan-less and battery life of the M2 MacBook Air. Forget having all of these things at once. AMD and Intel chips can't even function in fan-less enclosures!
carlycue··on Apple Special Event scheduled for September 7th

carlycue··on Apple’s Use of AppKit, Mac Catalyst and SwiftUI in macOS
> Sure, that’s where things stand today, but the Mac is part of Apples brand. They screw it up enough and iPhone won’t win on its strengths anymore. Design and execution.

It used to be but not anymore. The iPhone is Apple's most important product and the majority of iPhone users aren't interested in the Mac.

carlycue··on Apple’s Use of AppKit, Mac Catalyst and SwiftUI in macOS
In 2021, the Mac grossed $30B. iPad ($30B) and iPhone ($196B) together grossed $226B. Mac users might think they're still the most important part of Apple but it turns out, the Mac is quite insignificant compared to Apple's mobile OS's when you put things in perspective.

I am still surprised that Apple is pouring resources into the Mac. Nowadays, smartphones and tablets are the main computer for 90% of people. The sooner Apple rebuilds Xcode from the ground up for the iPad, the quicker we can get rid of the Mac with its decades of legacy baggage.
