calstad··on US SEC preparing to scrap quarterly reporting requirement
That depends on your company, not the SEC. I work for a publicly traded company and have very few blackouts, mostly around earnings, for selling.
calstad··on Ask HN: Casual Math Book Suggestions
These fall more in the "pop-sci" realm, but I think are really good at trying to convey what kinds of things working mathematicians actually think about:

- Colossal Book of Mathematics by Martin Gardner: Uses games and recreational math to introduce areas like group theory and topology.

- Finding Moonshine by Marcus Du Sautoy: Tells the story of the unexpected connection between two areas of math that, on the surface, seem to be completely unrelated.

- The Great Mathematical Problems by Ian Stewart: Does a good job explaining several of the major open problems in math today.

calstad··on Ask HN: What is the most memorable game you played?
Mine is Day of the Tentacle, which then turned me on to the whole Lucas Arts catalog and other point & click adventures like Myst. I credit these games for making me a better problem solver/mathematician/programmer because they got me used to being stuck for quite long bits of time and there was no one you could really go ask for hints.

calstad··on Keeping a Bibliography
It has a bit of a learning curve but I use a combination of the emacs packages org-mode, org-ref, interleave-mode, and pdf-tools that is heavily influenced by this reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/4gudyw/help_me_with_...).

org-ref is powered by bibtex to manage the bibliography and PDFs

interleave-mode lets me take org-mode notes on each page of a PDF

calstad··on Keeping a Bibliography
If you use org mode I highly suggest org-ref (https://github.com/jkitchin/org-ref) that leverages and adds a lot to Bibtex. It makes creating/managing/citing/searching a bibliography a breeze.

calstad··on Emmy Noether changed the course of physics
She was also very instrumental in the discovery of the functorality of homology in algebraic topology, which led to the explosion of homological algebra. She was definitely a great polymath

This has definitely come in useful for converting projects from ERB to haml. Nice to see others find it useful as well
