You are correct. This headline seems to be purposefully obfuscating the difference. That Tesla is benefitting from these programs is more an indictment of the companies that are paying the money than of Tesla itself and that's where the opprobrium should go.
Exactly. There are so many questions like this that all have the same answer: why don't they paint like Kandinsky <pick your own favorite>? Why don't they write like <pick your favorite writer>?
I fear this analysis would fit very well in the realm of "Spurious Correlations": https://www.tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations. At time scales like two or three years, very few economic correlations mean anything.
Strikes me as sensationalized pessimism. As Tyler Cowen often says, given the right conditions "supply is elastic". Big discoveries recently in South and North America might make this a very temporary thing.
That is a really nice bit of information communication. Hat's off! I feel like I learned a lot and that always makes me happy.
One quibble. At the end it mentions why Mexico's west was of interest to the Spanish, but neglects possibly the most important part - it was where the Spanish galleons from the Philippines first landed after the grueling trip across the Pacific as detailed beautifully in Neal Stephenson's "Baroque Cycle".
I understand, but consider for a moment what you might think you want vs. what you might get: deflation. That's what happens when prices start falling and historically I can guarantee you that you really don't want to be living in a deflationary environment. It's the stuff of depressions that last years or decades.
I just have to point out that the Vallée de Joux (namesake of the Valjoux movement) is a beautiful spot in Switzerland that is located such that very few foreign tourists ever go there. Definitely worth the visit.
The personal experience of the economy isn't quite as you make it. In polls, people do complain about the national economy being in terrible shape, but by a fairly good margin report that their own finances are in good shape. It's hard to weave a coherent narrative from those contradictory data.
Toward the end of the document, there is a discussion of how the Danish mortgage system has fared in the various financial crises of the past 50 years starting with the twin oil shocks of the 1970s. Evidently it has been much more stable than the US system during that era. If for no other reason, the US should look at this system seriously.
Not to mention that Justinian largely bankrupted the state's coffers that Anastasius had so carefully built up in his misguided attempt to reconquer the western part of the empire then proceeded to blame everything on his general Belisarius.
Mine's similar. I enrolled in a class, but never went. It's finals day and I'm determined to take it, but I can't find the classroom. Hours of looking for it.
Having lived with young kids in Switzerland, I agree, but one also has to add that there are very few places your kids won't be safe in Switzerland. Most places you could leave your bike unlocked and have a reasonable expectation it would still be there when you came for it.
Late 70s, I worked for a company that built embedded monitoring equipment. They'd been using the Intel 8051 coding it with assembly and had just done their first Z80 boards. I was fresh out of college and told them I could code it in C in 1/4 the time they'd been getting assembly code done. They gave the go ahead and I bought Whitesmith's cross compiler. I was able to code and test on the pdp-11s, then burn ROMs to test on the target machine. They were stunned when I requested another 4K of ROM, but went ahead. We did several devices this way before I moved on. They never went back to assembly though. Fun times.
It's the first time I can ever remember on a contested vote where both the two Democratic Senators from my current bluer than blue state voted the same (nay) as the two Republican Senators from my former redder than red state. Strange bedfellows in interesting times.
All true, but I haven't found any forum that works for very localized (geographically or otherwise) interests than reddit. I've long ago stopped looking at or participating in any non-localized subreddit.
I understand the difference, but if you find yourself inadvertently getting between a black bear and her cubs, I think you'll find they can be very dangerous, also.
I dunno. I just listened to it on Spotify and it sounded much better than either of the versions in the article. Maybe it's because it was in the context of the whole song.
