brickmort··on Show HN: Crowdsourced salary prediction
right off the bat, I'm not so comfortable about giving the site access to my LinkedIn account. No promise that it wont spam my account somehow or post things to my Linkedin feed.
brickmort··on Google’s Ray Kurzweil predicts how the world will change
whoa, whoa! easy with the language there buddy
brickmort··on Ghost 0.4 Released
yess, static pages!! ghost was in dire need of that. Such a basic feature, yet you dont realize how much you want it until it's not available out of the box. Really happy to see the platform maturing nicely. Great job Ghost team!
brickmort··on Speech accent archive (English)
this is absolutely fascinating. thanks for sharing.
brickmort··on The year in Kickstarter 2013
"That was beautifully done. wow."

brickmort··on Ask HN: Best blog hosting site for lazy hackers
I like ghost so far, but it lacks certain basic website features that have left me itching for them to show up in the upcoming releases, like static webpages and plugin integration. The current version is so limiting for users who dont want to go digging and hacking through the source code for customization.
brickmort··on Show HN: A small (less than 2 kb) CSS framework
i love these things. super simple and super basic, yet still serves an effective purpose. nice job.
brickmort··on Pencil
I don't understand all the negativity in this post. This product is a work of art. This layout/presentation is making Apple stop and take notes.
brickmort··on Ask HN: Will Ghost be the next Wordpress?
The answer at this point in the game is: Not for a while. Ghost is still in it's infancy (version 0.3.3 as of this post), and it still needs plenty of updates in order for it to be a complete 'full-fledged' platform. Maybe once it stabilizes and has enough built-in features comparable to wordpress will it be a contender, but right now wordpress is the most hassle-free, full-featured website builder out there. You can turn wordpress into a shopping site, a subscription site, etc. but Ghost is still primarily just a blogging platform, which by the way is not a bad thing by any means.

The advantage that ghost has is that it built with a newer and much more solid framework, so it's not as clunky and has less bugs and security vulnerabilities to deal with (at least for now). The built-in analytics are a nice advantage as well.

In any case, I'm optimistic and excited about the ghost platform. I plan to make a move to ghost within the next coming weeks. I just hope the next release brings in some basic features, like static content pages.

brickmort··on Why I use a 20-year-old IBM Model M keyboard
Yeah, this is too much for me. It's creating a problem out of something that I would never consider to be a problem otherwise. I'm typing here on my Dell laptop keyboard with zero problems. As a matter of fact, mechanical key sounds would probably make my computing experience incredibly annoying.
brickmort··on Sorting algorithms visualized
I could listen to the sound of that video all day.
brickmort··on ProjectSherpa is in Public Beta
My tip as a user who just stumbled upon this link on HN: Have a good easy-to-find 'about' link on your Blog. It took me a good couple of seconds before I was able to find a way to get to the root website and read about what you were about. It would be nicer if there was a quick 'What is ProjectSherpa?' link somewhere, or maybe a quick 2-sentence blip on the sidebar explaining what Sherpa does. I'm sure other readers would have given up sooner and bounced from your page.

in any case, good luck to ya!

brickmort··on Show HN: We built our startup in 100 days
Please do! The idea is awesome and I too am one to not use fb/twitter for signing up. Call it being stubborn, but there's plenty of us out there. In the meantime, is there a mailing list that people can join to stay up to date?
brickmort··on Page not found
In my honest (and probably unpopular) opinion, There's a limit where this 'offended' thing starts getting ridiculous, and, to me, this is where it is. You really can't please everybody, and if you do try to please everybody, the only thing you'll end up being able to do is stand there and/or walk. Even then, you'll eventually offend somebody for standing and walking. The best thing to do is take this for what it is; a light-hearted joke. and move on. It's not worth the debates and arguments that come with it. there are bigger problems to worry about than a guy dressed in women's clothing.
brickmort··on Another Model S fire
that is awesome.
brickmort··on How I Got My First 1000 Users in 1 Day
'x more users needed to unlock this area: invite users'

that is goddamn brilliant.

brickmort··on Show HN: Buster: Static site generator for Ghost and Github Pages.
Awesome! It's really cool to see a static generator for Ghost being released so soon after the public release of Ghost - http://blog.ghost.org/public-launch/

Kudos!

brickmort··on A Crash Course In Awk
crash course indeed. I just learned the basic concept of awk in just a few minutes. superb article!
brickmort··on Show HN: Learned By Me - $15 Spanish tutoring sessions with top professionals
I grew up in a spanish household speaking english and spanish. Now I'm in my twenties and I've found that speaking spanish in the household is VERY different from speaking in public, like when you have to speak in a formal manner or an informal (friend-to-friend) manner. I end up feeling like I can't speak spanish very well in these social scenarios, like I'm speaking like a caveman due to all the bumps I hit when I don't know the formal way of saying things. Then I get super self-conscious

In that sense, I may give this a shot in the very near future. In the meantime, good luck on the venture, I like the idea :)

brickmort··on Android alternative (CyanogenMod) gets $7M funding boost
That's pretty awesome, I only really learned about CyanogenMod this week. Has anybody tried installing it on their device?
brickmort··on IE8/9 crash with CSS only
yup, that definitely crashed my IE. I'm not quite sure what I expected.
brickmort··on Yahoo reveals its new logo
you know what? i like it. for the past month or so i kept thinking "this is such a bad idea on yahoo's part..." but now that the new logo's here, i realized that it is, in fact, a good move. it's sleek, modern yet it still looks 'familiar'. kudos to the yahoo design/marketing team.
brickmort··on Ask HN: Is there a site like HN for musicians?
also /r/audioengineering, tangiential but relevant.
brickmort··on New Form of Carbon is Stronger Than Graphene and Diamond
find something that can cut it.
brickmort··on GameBoy Programming Manual
wow. My childhood dissected into something I can (to a marginal extent) comprehend. It's quite the fascinating reality check. It isn't really magic after all.
brickmort··on DMT, the NeXT and the Soul of the Human/Machine
I think the spirit of it still very much alive, growing just as it always has. It's only being veiled by the big IPO social media coke binge (etc etc...) projects.

Just look at hot huge github has become in the past five years. not to mention open source linux distros, which have arguably taken over Microsoft in the 'best desktop OS' field lately (yet still behind, in my opinion, OS X). There's also new devices like Raspberry Pis, Arduinos and Beagleboards, which are bringing a new age in 'open source' learning. It's a rather amazing time we're living in, actually.

brickmort··on So You Wanna Build a Crowdfunding Site
As a non-js based programmer, This is some excellent insight in what a webapp looks like when built with node.js. I'm definitely gonna be reading through this to get my feet wet with node, as it's something I've been meaning to do but have been so occupied with other languages. Thanks for sharing!
brickmort··on Skrollr - parallax scrolling for the masses
that was scary-cool.
brickmort··on The day Steve Jobs dissed me in a keynote (2010)
CD Baby was HUGE in the early 2000s, especially for independent bands/musicians. This was before anything like Amazon music, iTunes store, etc. For the most part, digital music was still heavily being pirated at this point in time, at least until the music industry got a better grip of the digital music market.
brickmort··on Seriously.js
this is AWESOME!
