boomchinolo78··on ChatGPT launches boom in AI-written e-books on Amazon
And this is just why people say you should not read anything written in the past century, taken to the 11th degree.
boomchinolo78··on Is tipping getting out of control? Many consumers say yes
What? Who is harmed? Are we to pretend all waiters do an equally good job? Good service gets good tips, bad service, not good. It's just an incentive system.

The only reason it starts to breakdown is because there are really cheap people out there who will skimp on the tip and then complain when waiters treat them like shit.

If you are a regular at a place and you tip well, they'll spoil you.

boomchinolo78··on Bipartisan Legislation to Ban TikTok
I don't think you realize how widespread Tiktok usage is. I can reliably predict what Tiktok users will talk about in social events just by a few minutes of browsing that week's top.
boomchinolo78··on Gut epithelial barrier damage caused by dishwasher detergents and rinse aids
It's not the only cause, but I'd say in general anything that damages the intestinal lining has the potential.

Try and see if you have a B vitamin deficiency, it leads to slower regeneration of the lining.

boomchinolo78··on Why hasn’t Sam Bankman-Fried been arrested yet?
Some people have friends
boomchinolo78··on Gut epithelial barrier damage caused by dishwasher detergents and rinse aids
Oh wait....cue gluten-allergy
boomchinolo78··on FTX Collapse takes toll on the Bahamas
About as good as fiat, just based on shared faith
boomchinolo78··on What if we talked about over-60s’ screen time as we talk about young people’s?
They're in no way comparable. One is a mind in development and the other is, hopefully, a well equipped mind. The sad thing is the clarity of thought, writing and reading comprehension of the average person has deteriorated a lot. The screens give a fake sense of literacy but it's barely parroting.

From the social class perspective, I find it soothing that otherwise bored people will be sucked into lives of passive consumption rather than whatever mischief they can conjure.

boomchinolo78··on What if we talked about over-60s’ screen time as we talk about young people’s?
Sad to break it to you, but the quality of these has decayed quite a bit.
boomchinolo78··on Alaska snow crab season canceled after disappearance of an estimated 1B crabs
Unfortunately, as someone who the intelligence agency in my land said, ultimate power brings ultimate corruption. If there is no #2 then no one can police #1
boomchinolo78··on Sweden’s incoming cabinet says new nuclear reactors will be built
Somebody call the WEF and the UN, they're gonna have a heart attack
boomchinolo78··on How Americans edit sex out of my writing
It's not that hard to see, it is the right word.

Just because the taboo changed does not mean that the Puritan-inside(tm) hardware most Americans have is not there (self-evident on conservatives and very rabid omg-living-in-denial in liberals)

The main point is, in Puritanism, thinking the wrong thing is a sin, so even writing it down is seen as bad. Other cultures can discuss without dirtying their souls/minds/egos.

boomchinolo78··on Ask HN: What are you doing now to profit from the current or upcoming recession?
Man, you're not one of those hopeless souls that "don't know anything and can't risk timing the market" your folks do seem to have a clue
boomchinolo78··on Wildfire smoke is exposing millions of Americans to extreme pollution levels
I'm not calling it settled science but I don't think anyone is looking for explanations. People live in pretty polluted places and surprisingly good lives. Beijing and Mexico City are like this if not worse, many many days of the year.
boomchinolo78··on Wildfire smoke is exposing millions of Americans to extreme pollution levels
They certainly don't help with PM2.5 Also let's not forget some people come from places where the AQ is like that, constantly for a big fraction of the year. Ever been to China or Mexico City?

Edit: Ok, if we're talking about KN95 then that's another story, I'm talking about the usual "face mask" which is little more than a fashion piece.

boomchinolo78··on A new vertical farm will grow 3M pounds of mycelium a year for fungi-based bacon
Bacon is pretty unsaturated fat and thus quite unhealthy.
boomchinolo78··on Using grape harvest dates to estimate summer temperature over 650 years
Would better weather forecasting move the relationship between weather and GHD?
boomchinolo78··on TikTok’s Poison Pill
It's more than a narrative for sure.
boomchinolo78··on Nonprofit markups.org is exposing the most egregious new car prices
I agree and personally it'll be good to see people reducing their consumption. The supply shortage is just a means to get us closer to meeting 2030 goals
boomchinolo78··on Nonprofit markups.org is exposing the most egregious new car prices
It's the only way for businesses to not completely collapse and still meet Agenda 2030 goals of reducing emissions worldwide. I personally think that the supply chain crises will be a boon to energy and emissions reduction worldwide. That not everyone will be able to afford a big car and such, well, they'll have to adapt.
boomchinolo78··on That time when I accidentally social engineered myself to a film set
It's the most human of things to seek boundaries. Maybe in the thoroughly schooled and desocialized humans it is not a thing
boomchinolo78··on Senate passes bipartisan bill to subsidize U.S.-made semiconductor chips
Not that anyone with wealth and some sense was letting their kids eat that goop.
boomchinolo78··on UK intelligence recycles “think of the children” argument for borking encryption
Wow, what country is this? Just to make sure I never live on it, even in rural LATAM you could persuade them to look into it. The lack of options in the first world is disgusting
boomchinolo78··on Google, GitHub, and Azure are freezing hiring effective immediately
They're trying to force a cooldown of the labor market, let see who holds out longer
boomchinolo78··on Hertz paid Accenture $32M for a website that never went live (2019)
Even then, quote my father "I only hired them when I wanted outside support for an initiative or to sink someone else's". Meaning, it's just politics and they will never go against the executive that brings them in
boomchinolo78··on Zombie fly fungus lures healthy male flies to mate with female corpses
Good, meanwhile, and in spite of living in "1st world", having been born in a 3rd world country I'll continue my semestral parasite pills.
boomchinolo78··on Modern city dwellers have lost about half their gut microbes
It's the iron fortified flour and then the people are like OMG I have celiac and what not. There's a reason breast milk and milk in general contains lactoferrin; guess what, they also remove it from most milk that is in supermarkets.
boomchinolo78··on Tell HN: Coinbase now requires physical address of recipient in crypto transfers
When the social contract is so deteriorated and government so corrupt. Is that a bad thing?
boomchinolo78··on The end of the world is just beginning for shipping
At the end of the day it does not matter much whether he is right or wrong. Our elites have quite the Malthusian outlook and it informs a lot of the decisions we are seeing on a global scale. Why do you think is there such a big push for reducing energy production?
