> Gas Works Park has a play area with a large play barn, and big hill popular for flying kites. Special park features include a sundial, and a beautiful view of Seattle. Access to Lake Union is restricted at Gas Works Park, as the lake sediment contains hazardous substances.

Appear that that description omits the lede! But the park does seem singularly interesting per the Wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_Works_Park

The DoE didn’t free that tech to the public, the US government’s using licensing to actively prevent American companies from competing with the Chinese one they allowed a sublicense to be granted to (from your link):

> Forever Energy, a Bellevue, Wash., based company, is one of several U.S. companies that have been trying to get a license from the Department of Energy to make the batteries. Joanne Skievaski, Forever Energy's chief financial officer, has been trying to get hold of a license for more than a year and called the department's decision to allow foreign manufacturing "mind boggling."

My Pinephone has all those features except the dual SIM card tray, and the battery’s capacity is rated 2,800mAh / typical 3,000mAh. The fact that it can burn through that in as little as an hour if held just right (with max brightness, volume, and load on the GPU, CPU, RAM, and separate modem CPU with the default nonfree, inefficient firmware; and not using the separately sold keyboard case with 6,000 more mAh) is a great incentive to limit its addictive effects.

> Running it on the desktop is far inferior, because a great advantage of QBO is the ability for several people, distributed worldwide, to work on the same account at the same time.

Is there any reason the desktop version couldn’t do that if Intuit wanted it to? (I imagine they just artificially limit it to encourage customers to ditch indefinite license purchases in favor of monthly SaaSS subscriptions, ie. it has little to do with technical advantages of the web and much to do with the profit advantages of software that stays on Intuit’s servers.)

> The built-in game browser, combined with being able to easily see the source for those games is fantastic.

TIC-80 gives you those + all four essential freedoms (seeing, sharing, modifying and using) with the source of the fantasy console itself.

There are some good examples prepackaged with it (from drawing a single sprite to a little ~½ dozen screen top-down action adventure).

> We're laughing at this because it's obvious satire and tongue-in-cheek, and we're laughing at ourselves. No one here that's a programmer strives to produce buggy code, quite the opposite. Frankly, your attack on programmers at large is quite offensive and unnecessary. We're fallible human beings, the same as you (unless you're a bot, but I'm assuming you're a person).

I think logicallee is a person trying to be satirical. But from your comment and its sibling, I guess that wasn’t obvious. Poe’s law strikes again (and now I’m wondering if I could be missing satire in your comment… I need more sleep).

I’m writing this comment in luakit. It doesn’t support extensions from any other browser’s extension repos AFAIK, but the extensions it comes with out of the box (though they’re not all enabled by default) cover ~80% of the things I use extensions for in Firefox, and the things they do cover kind of work better.

I miss cosmetic filters from µBO and should implement something like Privacy Redirect, but vertical tabs work more easily (they don’t require hacking around user.css to disable horizontal ones, though there are no tree-style ones), there’s a simple Stylus alternative, userscript support, JS whitelisting/toggling with a modifier-free binding, and of course native vi/Pentadactyl-like bindings which make extension-provided ones feel viscerally painful (they’re not eviscerated whenever a page is in the process of loading or unloadable, and searching stays incremental).

It sounded like you were saying those platforms were justified in taking a 10× higher cut than payment companies because they provide services that developers would make fewer sales without and would have much more difficulty implementing and hosting themselves. But what makes payment companies not platforms? They seem similarly difficult to sell without, similarly difficult to reimplemement and host yourself, and just as valuable as store platforms for the same reasons you gave.
