Basically you need the "infinite/zero" point to compensate for a situation when you have two points completely perpendicular to the x-axis. AKA it is not intersecting a third point. So it intersects this special "infinite" point.
And conceptually why you need this "infinite" point is that without it you can't add points together properly.
Say for counter argument instead of doing this "flip or mirror" across the x-axis (in the interaction it is the red dot appearing). And instead the red dot just appears on the same side as the two points being added on the curve - without the flipping.
If P1+P2 = Q instead of this Q' that is flipped. And P2+Q = P1
If you try and add P1+P2+Q you would get either Q+Q or P1+P1 depending on if you did (P1+P2)+Q or adding up P1+(P2+Q) which are not equal.
so you need this red dot flipping thing happening in the interaction. However, if you have this flipping that means P1+P2 = Q' which is the mirror flip of Q.
So Q'+Q need to equal this special infinite/zero point to ensure associativity works.
user clicks Yes. new one pops up Show Results (button) or Guess which was more popular: Yes/No. This is more simple than guessing a percentage. but both could work.
So you then show the results and then you show the "meta" results which is like a "line" that is labelled where it shows what others thought of other people. The dead simple idea is a nice draw, this like...ah hah learning moment to learn or see more about the world I think is maybe a nice feature to add. to get more people to come back?
It is cool to see the distribution of yes/no. But maybe when you do that you can do a kind of....how far off was i type result that lets people learn about their...biases? or just a fun surprise.
Anyways fun idea!
Tax expenditure in the ideal setting would be spent on clean water, education, etc. things that increase your welfare. And successful companies paying lots of taxes hopefully increase the welfare of a country.
So it is kind of like taxes emulate welfare increase...is the way I see it.
Strange and interesting, makes me humanize and think about him in a different context.
But the part describing the teacher who wanted to kill the child was the funniest chapter of a book I’ve ever read. And I recommend this book based only on this one chapter.
I have never seen this kind of comedy in a book. Maybe something like it’s always sunny in Philadelphia or futurama comes slightly close. But I’ve never laughed out loud from a book like that.
Would be cool trying to think of "work projects" or experiments to find those with X-Factors.
To point out the issue but maybe not say exactly what was wrong?
Thought you might like this one: A Geometric Analysis of Five Moral Principles (OUP 2017)
Ethics using vectors or from a description of the technique: The geometric approach derives its normative force from the Aristotelian dictum that we should “treat like cases alike.” The more similar a pair of cases are, the more reason do we have to treat the cases alike. These similarity relations can be analyzed and represented geometrically. In such a geometric representation, the distance in moral space between cases reflects their degree of similarity. The more similar a pair of cases are from a moral point of view, the shorter is the distance between them.
You don't ask for btc price X on coinbase versus btc price Y on biance? Wouldn't you just care about the price of btc? and if it rises on certain exchanges, then it would arbitrage until it rose on other exchanges as well?
Also I was told to never eat berries growing from a bush close to a road since they are more dirty.
Do you check the applicants who were denied based on their test and see where they ended up working at. E.g. you are a mid tier start up who rejects someone who ends up working at amazon as a high level engineer – do you mark that a failure?
>>greatness in tech is not constrained by capital, it’s constrained by labor; money can be manufactured in an instant, but talent takes years to cultivate
>>as we tend to do every decade
One thing maybe the author maybe didn't focus about is those talented engineers finally leaving fang companies as it is just simply time. And like it was mentioned it is just cyclical. As in all good things come to an end? I've seen a quote saying fang is were talent goes to die but these companies must be doing some pretty good and interesting training for the new generation. One that comes to mind is the guy who started Twilio coming from aws. But, on topic and on the social network companies being around for so long now I cant help but think there will be a new wave coming from them. And it would be interesting to find these new wave companies and give them as an example.
The other thing is that everything is recorded on the internet. so if one is a fraud sooner or later they would be revealed. It is kind of like when you pick up these "famous business books" and it just seems like giberish but at the time they were very popular. I've really liked some "thought leaders" and their vc track but after digging into what they've done/said it is kind of disappointing.
@numair if you are reading, sad you are quitting twitter.
and that has 1.4M views so maybe it looks like it? Not to mention the cool brand building etc. I mean youtube is the new tv shows and maybe they want to make videos for a long time so why not.
I am not sure what to suggest...
So on one hand Ive heard the hype, and it was good...but I wonder if it was shorter it could have had a bigger punch (like 1984 or something else) and while typing this I wonder if this tv show analogy ( Rick and Morty comes to mind) is a kind of good analogy? Or maybe im a philistine...
I was almost going to buy the Pale king today but ill get it soon and start reading it.
but to clarify: -you take three regular plastic coke bottles
-put them in an equilateral triangle
-make the length of a side from center of the bottle slightly longer than a knife
-take three identical knives and create a platform that can hold a regular cup of water
?
Wait..by typing it out like this.. I think I solved it haha. Thanks for the brain tickle!
