Yeah it’s something that has burned me out after 15 years of development. Work then go hang out with some people from work and they just talk about work or side projects. When you are younger I kinda of understood and was also one of the people doing it but now that I’m older im amazed at how many people never find anything outside of work.

Im strictly 9-5 and done now and don’t do any work events if I can avoid it. I was thinking about joining a decent sized startup recently 150+ and when I was meeting some of the team one of the first things I was asked was “so what side projects are you working on right now”. I was already a little worried about startup culture but after that was said I just told them I wasn’t interested after.

There is somewhat of a middle ground. My cart looks very close to yours but I really don’t want to spend the 60 to 90 minutes most good meals take more than once or twice a week.

However you can make lots of good food ahead of time and freeze it. I spend a few hours every Sunday and it makes for quick 30 minute no effort meals for about two weeks.

How does ranked choice become hard on paper? At the end of the day the tally all is input into a computer anyway. Im sure different sums of yes and no answers could be reduced to a single number if you are arguing that tallying votes would be harder in the system

I always want to do this but health insurance always keeps me from never going a day without being employed. Im fortunate to be able to have that kind of job stability but the anxiety of being out of a job and then needing any kind of medical care is real.

It’s becoming unbearable that every issue facing society is the consumers fault. I take a ten minute shower and I’m destroying the world but the farmer growing crops that wouldn’t exist in the region without imported water is fine.

I don’t understand what they expect Dubai to be doing around transactions. Their is only so much you can check when someone is buying a property and the money is being sent from abroad.

I bought property recently in another (less expensive) place and they ask about where you work and so on but say I just have money saved up they really have nothing to check. Say im retired can i not buy something now? No that would be pretty stupid. Journalists these days are beyond stupid.

Then you get a wire reversed for a large amount in some cases and the bank freezes your assets because you just got a huge amount of money from some random place. The thin vail of freedom is quickly lifted whenever you want to do anything international from sending money to getting married.

I am in this process now. Only looking for companies without offices and who will put in my contract that I never have to come in even if they do buy one.

I am beyond sick of my current company pretending like everything is going to go back to normal one day. We have 75% of people working from home although not labeled remote and maybe 25% back in some offices. The CEO pushing that we are an office company has destroyed communication and meant that over the last two years instead of adjusting how we work just pretending like nothing every happened. So now we have terrible communication even within teams and no one who wants to fix it because that would be a waste of time since soon everyone will be in the office. This has been going on for over a year.

Maybe they will fix this but it’s completely destroyed my desire to work for what was once a great company. They have over 1k employees. It’s unbelievable how much time and energy have been wasted because management has refused to accept the current situation. If i had taken this same approach when things changed at this current job or others I would be fired. I need to switch to management.

I have been switching to companies that primarily use airbus when available just for the peace of mind. Yes i know it’s irrational and im more likely to die driving to the airport but my anxiety doesn’t seem to follow logic.
