boernard··on The bottleneck might be the air in the room
could you observe an effect on your health after starting to wear the mask? like sickness days per year?
boernard··on OWASP Juice Shop: Hacking a Modern Web Application
I would say the ads on that website add to the low quality feeling. a full screen add titled "people that live longer sleep differently than ordinary people" with a skeleton sleeping. looks super fishy and gives the impression of a content farm
boernard··on Losing my son
I find it a bit insensitive to tell 'what he has to do' while not being in his situation. I do believe that you believe this and this comes from a good place but I can imagine that this can be quite a sting if he tried everything and then has to read this
boernard··on Did English ever have a formal version of "you"? (2011)
I think English definitely has it's influence but I think another big factor is the general idea that this hierarchic thinking just gets outdated and younger Germans strive to have a sense of equality.
boernard··on Pixel 7 WiFi does not work in certain countries
I am right now in Sri Lanka and couldn't connect to a WiFi that I connected to after I still was on airplane mode. After reading that support thread I could reproduce this issue. It really seems that WiFi networks are not discoverable in Sri Lanka when your device 'recognises' via connecting to the carrier that it is in Sri Lanka
boernard··on Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell Mini Documentaries
These short (~8min) documentaries are of outstanding quality. They cover various topics, from science, philosophy to some thought provoking topics while always maintaining a neutral stance and making sure that all the sources are stated so that the viewer can validate the statements and form his own opinion. This channel is marvelous.
boernard··on Many white students lied about their race to improve chances of admission
If you follow American media then you will realise that there is a strong trend towards fighting systemic racism and fighting systemic discrimination of LGBTQ. As a German it is unbelievable to watch to what extent they are doing this. It seems it got to an extent where there is a forced ideology where anybody remotely identifying as somewhat liberal feels forced to follow. From what I can see on the internet, any discussion about these topics is almost immediately hijacked by ideological views and thus an objective discussion prevented.
boernard··on U.S. job openings post biggest drop in more than four years
... and there are many many HR departments going on a hunt for these people that got laid off
boernard··on A new browsing experience arrives in Firefox for Android Nightly
I doubt that Mozilla needs this page to be ranked high, it's more of a press release and not a landing page that should come up high in search results when you search for Firefox...
boernard··on Scaling React Server Side Rendering
Incedibly nice writeup! I really like how the drawings help to better understand the concepts. A lot of time must have gone into crafting this article.
boernard··on WeWork lays off 2,400 employees
any place that would give me a hard time because of a 3 months gap in my resume is a place I'd rather not work at
boernard··on Electron 7.0
that 'minor' convenience is a quite huge one given that he stated that the other apps wouldn't exist if not for electron.
boernard··on Ask HN: How do you share/organize knowledge at work and life?
can recommend, it makes it so easy to start knowledge sharing. you'll have to implement some rules after a while, otherwise it becomes victim of its ease of creating new content
boernard··on Show HN: I made a privacy-first minimalist Google Analytics
Since the creator points out that he doesn't store any IP addresses, he doesn't store any data that allows identifying an individual. For the GDPR to be applicable you need to store data that allows you to identify an individual. Thus when you use this, you don't have to think about GDPR.
boernard··on Blender is testing PeerTube after YouTube blocks their videos worldwide
the 'interesting support thread' is more than 8 years old...
boernard··on America's Startup Scene Is Looking Anemic
this is a very limited mindset. Poor people that are not able to move into middle class will in the long run cause a lot of instability. Poverty and level of education are correlated. Living in a democracy with more people being poorer opens the door to populists with short sighted politics (hi Donald)
boernard··on Dimensions – Measure everything you see in the browser
Doesn't work on my mbp 13" either... Also only grabs some random measurements
