bobo_legos··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
Surely though these content updates must go through some kind of regression testing right? Right?
bobo_legos··on AT&T says criminals stole phone records of 'nearly all' customers in data breach
Snowflake might want to take this page down in light of today's news.

bobo_legos··on Nvidia announces financial results for first quarter fiscal 2025
I have a 6 figure profit in NVDA shares right now. Cost basis is something like $100. I have considered selling( or at what price I would sell). The problem I have is what could I possibly buy with that profit? Intel hasn't shown that they have a real plan. The move in META seems to have already happened. I don't trust that Alphabet has any idea what they're doing. I could buy more Microsoft or Amazon shares I guess. I wouldn't throw money at these software stocks like Snowflake or the SNOWs of the world. AAPL might be a play if I have the conviction that Tim Cook has an AI plan in place.

In the end I'd probably just take the easy way out and go buy VTSAX and chill.

bobo_legos··on IBM nearing a buyout deal for HashiCorp, source says
Off topic but how is Nomad for running production workloads? My org has been wanting to push into containerization, but we're finding the complexity of k8s a high barrier to entry given our small team and lack of in house knowledge.
bobo_legos··on M 4.8 – 2024 Whitehouse Station, New Jersey Earthquake
I didn't stay at a holiday in last night, but I can read maps and it does seem like this one landed on the Ramapo fault line.
bobo_legos··on Cellular outage in U.S. hits AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon users
Kind of weird that there's been almost no coverage of this event this morning. CNBC has barely mentioned it. All 3 carriers having a major outage seems like it should be major news.
bobo_legos··on Nuclear Reactor Simulator
We need an RBMK simulator with a A3-5 button front and center.
bobo_legos··on Microsoft won't let you close OneDrive on Windows until you explain yourself
I am on 23.226... and I didn't get any questionnaire. I got the same message as you. I am on Win 11 Enterprise though. Maybe that makes a difference? Some times I wonder about these hyper ventilating posts about the latest stupid thing Microsoft changed. Their changes never seem to roll down to me.
bobo_legos··on 0 To 100 kph in 1 second [video]
Seeing, hearing and smelling a nitro fuel car is a complete sensory overload. It's an amazing experience. I know that electric or some other thing is the future, but I seriously doubt that those things will ever be the visceral experience that is an 11,000HP nitro engine.
bobo_legos··on First impressions: Yes, Apple Vision Pro works and yes, it’s good
What's strange to me is that they roll out Hideo Kojima to talk about some gaming thing for the Mac OS, yet when it came to the headset all they can give is some creepy demos of a fathers wearing this thing while their kinds play at home.

Could they really not have given some units to some game devs and tell them to come up with some cool ideas?

This thing just feels incredibly rushed. It's like Apple felt left out of the all the AI hype the last couple months, so they were forced to show this thing before it was really ready.

bobo_legos··on Apple Vision Pro Is Apple's New VR Headset
Let's be honest here. If Steve were still alive this thing would never see the light of day in it's current form.
bobo_legos··on Show HN: I made a pretty relaxing puzzle game
So I use Imagus in Firefox. When playing older games hovering over some of the tiles ends up loading the full image. Doesn't do it on today's cat image.

Otherwise fun little game.

Youtube is a traiwreck anymore. Thankfully when this came up here a few weeks ago a users pointed out that the subscriptions tab is there to just show you what you're subscribed to.
bobo_legos··on The man who made the “worst” video game in history (2019)

Would also recommend his book that dives deeper into the mess that Atari was under the leadership of Ray Kassar and Warner Bros.

bobo_legos··on Broadcom to acquire VMware for $61B
One thing that I always gave Dell/EMC credit for was that they at least outwardly seemed to have left VMware free to their own thing. As opposed to a lot of their other acquisitions that they bastardized in this rush to sell enterprises on everything private cloud. We'll see Broadcom ends up taking the same route.
bobo_legos··on Error 404 (Not Found)
Homedepot.com appears down as well.
bobo_legos··on A shot to prevent Lyme disease could be on its way
Kris Kirstofferson was told by doctors that his memory loss was either Alzheimer's or Dementia. Another doctor finally decided to test him for lyme. Turns out he he probably got bitten by a tick shooting a movie 10 years prior to the positive test. https://www.rollingstone.com/feature/kris-kristofferson-an-o...
bobo_legos··on Dogs orient and move in synchrony with family members
Every Pennsylvanian who lives by the New Jersey border knows about jughandles and how absolutely ridiculous these things are. We also know about the idiocy that is the New Jersey traffic circle. Do not get these abominations confused with the modern roundabouts because they're nothing alike.

bobo_legos··on SpaceX SN9 Explodes on Landing
Does anyone know some good books that explore the space race? I've read Carrying the Fire(which was excellent), but it doesn't touch much on what the Soviets were doing.
bobo_legos··on Email from Jeff Bezos to employees
I think he's probably bored at this point. Whats there really left to do at Amazon? AWS and the website are eating the world. He's 57. Why not at this point go play with his rockets and spend time inside that WaPo newsroom that he loves.
bobo_legos··on Email from Jeff Bezos to employees
Algos seem to be all over the place right now. But I think they're just confused by this news and the earnings report.
bobo_legos··on Cracking the meat-allergy mystery with the tick-bite link
This seems to be the story with a lot of tick related illness. People come down with some random illness and they see doctor after doctor who runs a battery of tests that yield no results. Finally someone decides to run the test for Lyme Disease and lo and behold the results come back positive. Kris Kristofferson is a prime example. His doctors thought his memory loss was due to dementia, until a someone finally decided to test for Lyme Disease.

WSJ confirming that report. Doesn't have a ton of details.

bobo_legos··on A sweary, ranty YouTuber who's become an isolation cooking sensation
Why the hell did I never know he had a Youtube channel? Love him and Serious Eats.
bobo_legos··on Google cancels legacy Google Play Music subscriptions
Mine renews on the 14th and the payment was already made last night. Everything I look at shows my sub. is still active. I'm one of the original 7.99 subscribers.

The death of Google Music is long awaited and feared. Once it does die it'll be like the death of Google Reader 2.0. People are just getting twitchy with any little mistake Google makes.

bobo_legos··on Google cancels legacy Google Play Music subscriptions
I am one of the original $7.99 lifetime subscribers. I received no emails or cancellations. My payment for the month was processed last night. Music apps in the browser and mobile still recognize my account.
bobo_legos··on Typography of Neon Genesis Evangelion
Had no idea this landed on Netflix. I've been in search of somewhere to rewatch for years now. This might be enough to get me to resubscribe for a month.
bobo_legos··on The Apocalyptic Architecture of One 1970s Retail Chain
I remember going to Best as a kid all throughout the 80s. This was the store in Langhorne Pa.

bobo_legos··on Unnecessary medical care is harming patients physically and financially (2015)
Same exact story except my mom is and still is a working R.N. There was no running to the doctor or emergency room if I got sick or banged up an knee or elbow. To this day as a grown adult I still work this way. It's a completely foreign concept to me to automatically run to the doctor like so many people around me seem to do.

You're other point about knowing the limitations of doctors is completely valid. Every night at the dinner table I heard one horror story after another about the crazy shit doctors would do at her hospital. Maybe its why today I don't run to the doctor for every little thing. I got the understanding that just because someone went to medical school and got an M.D. doesn't mean they're a miracle worker. There's just as many screw ups in that industry as any other.

On the upside though if something does happen where I(or someone in my family) need a doctor I can go to her(and my R.N. sister) to tell me who the good ones are and who to avoid like the plague.

bobo_legos··on Millions Are Hounded for Debt They Don’t Owe. One Victim Fought Back
I've been dealing with this for years. Every once in a while I get a call from some random debt collector looking for a guy with my name who skipped out on his college loans. I've gotten letters threatening wage garnishment. One time they even called my Mom's cell phone saying they needed to serve me papers.

The conversation ended when it got to S/Ns(which didn't match) and me demanding they never call again. Eventually the conversations got real quick when I'd stop them before they got to begin saying, "No I didn't live at XXX, No I didn't go to college at XXX, No I don't have XXX in student loans."

Luckily I've never had to deal with the level of threats that this guy went through. It's been a while since I've gotten a call looking for this guy with my name. Maybe there's no one left who wants to try to collect this debt.
