bobbles··on The Tapplock IoT padlock has multiple security vulnerabilities
>What to do?

>Tapplock user? Get and install any and all patches provided. Apparently, the company has now addressed the most obvious web portal holes (guessable account IDs and no HTTPS), but we assume an app update will be needed as well.

Also, stop being a Tapplock user

bobbles··on When Madden NFL Killed NFL 2K
Pretty telling excerpt of the business BS going on from Wikipedia:

ESPN NFL 2K5 was the first in the 2K series priced at $19.99 the day it shipped, much lower than market leader Madden NFL at $49.99. This greatly reduced Madden sales that year; one EA Sports developer recalled that "[i]t scared the hell out of us".[1] EA reduced Madden NFL 2005's price to $29.95. In December 2004 EA Sports acquired an exclusive rights agreement with the NFL and NFLPA to be the sole creator of NFL video games.[2] The deal terminated 2K Sports production of any further NFL games. The ensuing season, Madden 2006, saw pricing returned to the $49.99 MSRP.

In December 2010, a U.S. district court judge certified a class action anti-trust lawsuit against Electronic Arts for anti-competitive practices to proceed.[3] Electronic Arts settled the class action suit in July 2012 for $27 million, and retained its exclusive NFL license.[4][5]

bobbles··on How many deaths make a disaster newsworthy?
I wonder if its because a natural disaster sort of evokes a 'oh thats a shame' reaction, while something man-made is more of a 'how could they do this to us' 'theres something we can do to fix this' type response

bobbles··on Apple Music now has 38M paid members
The thing that baffles me is that now if you're listening to a playlist and you tap the album/song it takes you back to the playlist its playing in, not the album itself. it takes like 3 more taps just to get to the actual album
bobbles··on MoviePass CEO says the app tracks your location before and after movies
"be able to use the app to get tickets and the theaters." is this simply a typo that should be "and TO the theatres"? That would make sense if it actually gave you directions to get there at least...

Within the last month I had to do a full 2TB recovery using 50GB to 150GB recovery files.. truly a life saver!

I was able to completely start from scratch with a clean widnows install and a new HDD after one day my computer just straight up died (zero HDD activity at all).

So.. thanks!

bobbles··on A Message to Our Customers about iPhone Batteries and Performance
What theyre doing to fix it:

"Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, starting in late January and available worldwide through December 2018. Details will be provided soon on apple.com.

Early in 2018, we will issue an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone’s battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance."

bobbles··on Researchers describe first-ever hybrid bird species from the Amazon
> A hybrid species forms when two parental species mate to produce a hybrid population, which then stops being able to freely interbreed with the parental species. In this case the two parents are the snow-capped manakin, named for its bright snowy-white crown feathers, and the opal-crowned manakin, named for its brilliant iridescent crown feathers.

Does anyone have photos of the species of birds and the offspring? or is the photo of a feather in the article the only thing that has been found?

bobbles··on How Australia's $49B internet network came to be ridiculed
It really is on par with saying something like hard drives should never get bigger because we dont use the space.

The capabilities need the infrastructure in place first so that they can grow to use them, it's impossible for the other way around to occur as you cannot transfer something that requires faster connections before they exist.
