bnt··on A Black Hole Singing
Well, it sounds just like 1950's SciFi movies made space .. sound like!
bnt··on Tell HN: Job interview canceled due to looming recession
Their honesty should be applauded. Imagine they hired you and then had to fire you in 6 months. Keep in touch with the PM if you liked them and see how they perform in the next 12 months.
bnt··on Is there a way to “short” the population growth rate?
Make babies?
bnt··on Finland will seek NATO membership immediately
Sweden not selling them parts would be the end of Sweden selling planes to anyone.

Most VCs are a-holes, why are you surprised?
bnt··on Tesla has built their own ERP system
So?

16" i9 Intel calling in: 90 minutes of Zoom max (100% to 10% battery)
bnt··on Four Eras of JavaScript Frameworks
My previous 2 companies basically lost all marketshare because they _had to_ use Node + React for their in-house CRUD tools. The amount of time and money wasted is insane. We ended up doing most things with Airtable because the dev team(s) were too slow.
bnt··on Elon Musk Considering Tender Offer for Twitter, Says $46.5 Billion Lined Up
Fully support this. Hopefully he goes bankrupt.
bnt··on Ask HN: Why can't Germany just go cold turkey and turn off Russian Gas?
The immediate ramifications of shutting off Russian gas would be akin to 1920’s depression. And German economy going to shit means the rest of Europe and Euro itself tanking.
bnt··on Evaluating Ruby in Ruby (2020)
I tried to install Rails the other day. The amount of issues I had to set it up with Homebrew on macOS is just terrifying. In the end I managed to get the app running but assets weren’t compiling. I gave up. It’s 2022 and getting Ruby and Rails running is as difficult as it was 10 years ago.

Compare to Node or even Elixir, this is a no-go for me. I give up on Rails.

bnt··on Ask HN: Whatever Happened to Elixir?
Exactly the last part. The language is “complete” and the core team is now focusing on the ecosystem.
bnt··on Moskva cruiser sank while being towed in a storm – Russian Defense Ministry
Weren't all of them recovered? Or is everything misinformation these days?
bnt··on Taiwan should destroy TSMC if invaded, suggests US military paper
China doesn't necessarily want TSMC, they want the Island. TSMC would just be icing on the cake. Even if you destroy the TSMC facilities, you can't evacuate the thousands that work(ed) there over night, China would find them, round them up and force them to rebuild.
bnt··on Taiwan should destroy TSMC if invaded, suggests US military paper
Look how it's turning out for Ukraine. If the USA wanted to avoid this tragedy, they would have a) sent 1000 personnel to East Ukraine just to sit there and play Xbox all day, b) parked a few destroyers in the Crimea region. Had they done that, Russia would never NEVER consider this move.

Don't get me wrong, I fully blame Putin on this, but a deterrent was badly needed. We knew from Nov 2021 that troops were building up on Ukraine border.

bnt··on What happens if you try to download and install Firefox on Windows
Not only that, but I suspect if you offend 1 big tech player, they all talk and others will start ignoring you too.
bnt··on Mataroa blog – Naked blogging platform for minimalists
False advertising, no nudes anywhere to be found!! /s
bnt··on Neovim to Add Telemetry Reporting via Google
Before people go nuts, Aprils Fools.
bnt··on Why the Black MacBook Cost More
Where can I learn more about web development on Chromebooks? I thought it was just Chrome made to boot as an OS, not that you have full Linux access.
bnt··on Update on StoreKit External Entitlement for dating apps
And you’re ok with that? An entire nation, single way of paying?
bnt··on Putin’s hackers gained full access to Hungary’s foreign ministry networks
This isn't some spectacular hacking event, this is espionage 101 that's been happening for hundreds of years.
bnt··on Cyberattack on Russia’s Civil Aviation Authority servers: no more data or backup
And now Russian hackers will retaliate. Do we really need this?
bnt··on What is more performant than PHP for Web Development?
Golang? C++?
bnt··on Microsoft is tied to hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign bribes
Let's see how The Verge falls out of Microsoft's grace moving forward. The Verge had (what feels like) direct access to top MS execs for all product launches. I guess those days are over.

Don't get me wrong, if this was picked up by the SEC or DOJ - I'd take it more seriously, but it sounds like accusations with no real proof.

bnt··on Open source ‘protestware’ harms Open Source
Or, you know, I’ll never touch Vue.js again?
bnt··on US schools can subscribe to an electric bus fleet at lower prices than diesel
Yea, here the batteries catch fire and a bunch of kids burn to death. Grim, but possible.
bnt··on The Iron Curtain – Which IT Services Got-Blocked or Left the Russian Market?
It will be fun watching all these big companies try to re-enter Russia in 5-10 years when all this is done and over. I can imagine a Samsung Head of Marketing job interview: “We dumped Russia in 2022 and threw our marketshare into trash, go win it back in 12 months”.
bnt··on Ask HN: As non-nuke power, why fight a nuke power, esp if you have an easy out?
Difference being: Hungary was part of SU, Ukraine is independent. Russia needs Ukraine as a buffer between NATO. Also, being Neutral doesn't mean being disarmed, just look at Switzerland. Neutral means not associating your military views with West OR East.
bnt··on Replacement for RubyMine
They made a public statement within a day from the invasion citing they strongly object it. Being a Russian and doing this publicly - so early - is pretty dangerous for the founders. So yea, they aren't supporting Putin, you can calm your mind and continue using RM because an alternative doesn't exist.
bnt··on Apple’s 27-inch iMac End of Life
This is Apple we're talking about. I'd expect a 27" Studio edition to pop up this fall. I did buy the 2020 iMac and maxed it out with RAM, but then (regrettably) sold it for profit because I feared it would EOL by 2024.
