bnt··on Show HN: I created an After Effects alternative
Not OP but guessing: easier to build/test/debug in Chrome for starters, and if it gains traction try to fix cross-browser bugs. Especially if this is a 1 person show.
bnt··on The Netflix Logo with Yarn was a lie
Was anyone hurt? Does anyone care? The original post was fun, and this is even funnier.
bnt··on Developers revolt over Apple's new app store rules
Wait, is this confirmed that it's removed only in the EU? I've seen "reports" on Twitter (never gonna call it X) but nothing official.
bnt··on Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union
First they need to slim down the hardware offering. I can't even recommend an iPad to family members anymore, because there are so many of them with minor differences. Same for the phones. Even the MBP line is now convoluted with MBP14 getting the baseline M3 processor.
bnt··on Ford cutting 2024 F-150 Lightning production plans by half
Hey, my Slav neighbour charges his Model 3 that way!

Now, in all seriousness, EVs are for houses, not apartment buildings. If you have a driveway, and want an EV - by all means go for one.

But if you live in an apartment block where it's hard to even find parking after 7pm, then stick to ICE now.

bnt··on Ousted OpenAI CEO Makes Plans for New Artificial Intelligence Company
People said Sam was irreplaceable and then we wasn’t?
bnt··on Detroit wants to be the first big American city to tax land value
So basically own nothing and be happy? What then drives people to create any meaningful value to the economy?
bnt··on My Brain Doesn’t Picture Things
I can’t picture objects or colour, but have vivid dreams. Also it’s normal for me to hold conversations with myself in my head. Post-covid I had a few days with no inner “voice” and it was terribly lonely.
bnt··on Rails 7.1 Released
I recently set up a new Win11 laptop and all it took was download Node and install it via the installer. You’re up and running in 90 seconds. Yarn was another 30 seconds (npm i yarn). Even Ruby works well with RubyInstaller, and you can normally develop Rails without WSL if you really want to.
bnt··on X CEO Says Platform Should Turn Profit in 2024
This is obviously not a popular opinion, but: I think this is great news. In the world of Meta dominating social media (+ TikTok now de facto in 2nd spot), we need diversity in the field.

Twitter (X) definitely changed in the past year, but I see it as a positive change (maybe it's my bubble) - my tech feed is no longer polluted by people fighting about left vs right, Trump etc, my feed is now tech people sharing tech-related content and I love it.

bnt··on My solopreneur story
I see this with course creators as well. I reported dozens of errors in a particular corse and the creator was literally annoyed at me.
bnt··on Things I wish I knew before moving 50K lines of code to React Server Components
Basically avoiding the mistake Angular made (moving from 1.x to 2+)
bnt··on Things I wish I knew before moving 50K lines of code to React Server Components
Why did we abandon XSLT?
bnt··on Natural beekeepers are the radical dissenters of apiculture
Uhm are you gonna run around fields chasing wild cows for milk and burgers?
bnt··on Russia Starts Blocking VPN Protocols
I’ll just leave this here and see myself out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksb3KD6DfSI
bnt··on Apple says it'll remove iMessage and FaceTime in UK rather than break encryption
Good, more companies need to fight back crazy UK demands. Blocking MS<>Activision deal, because they think they are a global superpower.
bnt··on DJI Drone Rescue Map
> A missing person was found after a drone pilot from Croatian Mountain Rescue Service noticed his legs moving in a ditch.

Either amazing zoom and lenses on that drone, or the pilot has great eyesight. Either way, interesting story and glad to hear a life was saved.

bnt··on San Francisco loses 2 big conferences
Are these venues booked 5 years in advance?
bnt··on Google Street View returns to Germany after 10 Years
As an inexperienced and anxious driver (from a tiny suburban / village area / town), Street View (and its alternatives) are god sent to me.

I up front plan my trip, every twist and turn, especially in densely populated areas. I'm not used to driving in dense urban environments with multi-lane streets, so knowing what's gonna happen, when, and how it's going to look is immensely important to me to keep my anxiety under control.

bnt··on Top secret U.S. Navy system heard titan implosion days ago
Would be easier if they had shared Slack channels
bnt··on BlackCat claims they hacked Reddit and will leak the data
$4.5 mil with this inflation in this economy is peanuts.
bnt··on Raddle – An open source Reddit alternative
I mean, isn’t Reddit open source? (or parts of it? Or was before?)
bnt··on CS:GO: From Zero to 0-Day
As a late-30’s dev who plays competitive daily, this is the most frustrating thing in my day, but also the best way for me to vent out daily frustrations.
bnt··on Twitter is purging inactive accounts, including people who have died
Elon did say they would free up inactive usernames, guess he figured its not a good idea
bnt··on Dell's new monitor boasts 6K resolution and IPS Black display technology
How will you drive 6k res at higher refresh rates?
bnt··on Web Push for Web Apps on iOS and iPadOS
I strongly dislike this. My grandparents are on Android and they are driven mad by every site pushing them notifications, 24/7. We're talking about non-tech people, 70+ years old. I ended up turning off notifications for them altogether because I couldn't find a fix. On iOS this is easy, Safari won't have access to notifications on my phone.
bnt··on Coinbase cuts staff by a further 20%
Depending on what sort of crypto projects they worked on, you might be missing on amazing Golang devs experienced in building large, distributed systems. Remember: sometimes the programming language you love is used in a certain type of industry.
bnt··on Switzerland: snow flown in by helicopter in attempt to keep ski slopes open
Surreal times we’re living in.
bnt··on Bring Back Personal Blogging
So many great Youtubers were demonetized for making fun of that Verge PC build video.
bnt··on Bring Back Personal Blogging
So many tech sites call for boycott of Twitter (see Engadget) yet they actively post on Twitter to their massive audiences. Put your money where your mouth is and delete all your corporate Twitter accounts.
