bluefinity··on Fuck the Super Game Boy (2010)
You're right, and I apologise. Regardless of my personal opinions on Christine Love, what I said was an unnecessary and personal attack, and a diversion from what this thread should have been about: an interesting look at the technical aspects of the Super Game Boy.
bluefinity··on Fuck the Super Game Boy (2010)
Trust me, she's definitely unprofessional. And her games aren't very good unless you're an SJW.

I had a whole list of links to post, but I'll just leave it at this:

Paraphrased, "People who think my games are bad are homophobic"

Or, in a more reusable/flexible way:

  newTime = currentMillis + 6 * HOUR_IN_MILLIS
But an even cleaner solution would be to just use the date/time library for this (depending on the language, of course):

  newTime = currentMillis + TimeSpan.FromHours(6).Milliseconds;
bluefinity··on Stripe: Alipay support
I would also love to use Stripe in NZ. The NZ market really doesn't have any good alternatives.

bluefinity··on Xip.io: Wildcard DNS for everyone
You can set up your web server to serve different applications on different domains if you're working on multiple projects at the same time and don't want to put them on different ports or use subdirectories.

Another use case I can see is for testing subdomain-based web apps where you give each customer a subdomain (really just a wildcard dns record), e.g. acme.myapp.com

bluefinity··on Your REST API should come with a client
Because everybody's SOAP implementation is subtly different, leading to bugs/pain/things not working.
bluefinity··on The Story Of Larry Page's Comeback
Do you also cringe every time you see a write-up of a male engineer or executive where attention is drawn to his hairstyle, clothes, or shoes?

Example from the same article: "Finally Rosing, a bald man in glasses, began to speak"

bluefinity··on WinJS: the Windows Library for JavaScript
It works for me if I enable touch emulation (Google Chrome on Linux). I don't see the styling that you apparently get in IE though.
bluefinity··on Why don’t designers take Android seriously?
PhoneGap is exactly that, with the bonus that's it's also cross platform.

Oh, I thought it was part of upstart for some reason. Thanks for the the clarification.
bluefinity··on Down go all the major browsers at Pwn2Own
If you read their page on offensive 0days, it states they only sell to non-embargoed government agencies. I wouldn't really consider that black-hat.

You can do per-directory config in nginx with the location block, it's just that you just can't put the config inside the directory itself and have nginx automatically load it.

You can tell nginx to reload its configuration without restarting the entire server process by running "sudo /etc/init.d/nginx reload", or on ubuntu "sudo service nginx reload".

bluefinity··on Comparison of C/Posix standard library implementations for Linux
Yeah, you're right, I can't find anything saying Arch is using eglibc either. I did get my information on it from that Wikipedia article, I guess I should have checked the citations.
bluefinity··on Comparison of C/Posix standard library implementations for Linux
eglibc is basically the same thing, except better. Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch all use eglibc.
bluefinity··on Introducing Bing Code Search for C#
The using block compiles to the equivalent of a try-finally block. If you want to catch an exception you can do it inside or outside the using block.
bluefinity··on Mozilla localForage
I haven't had the opportunity to try it myself yet, but it seems like this is the problem PouchDB (http://pouchdb.com/) is designed to solve.

You can do the same thing with POST by submitting a form with JS. The correct way to protect against this sort of thing is to use a CSRF token.

bluefinity··on With Traction But Out Of Cash, 4chan Founder Kills Off Canvas/DrawQuest
4chan was based off Futaba Channel (2chan.net), which was in turn a based off 2channel (2ch.net).

So it's not like there wasn't a precedent.

If you check the footer on 4chan, you'll see it links back to Futaba Channel. I seem to remember Futaba linking back to 2channel as well at some point, but it doesn't look like it does now.

bluefinity··on DigitalOcean leaks customer data between VMs
Okay, the misinformation is getting a little out of hand here. DigitalOcean certainly aren't charging you to erase your data, all you have to do is check the "Scrub Data" checkbox. Yes, you have to pay for the time your VPS is on while erasing, but that's perfectly reasonable.
bluefinity··on A glimpse into a new programming language under development at Microsoft
If you want to use C#, the easiest way is probably using GtkSharp. I don't know if there's a way to use the VS GUI designer, but MonoDevelop has a built in GUI designer that works with GtkSharp -- and MonoDevelop runs on Windows too.

Might be worth trying out. You can still run your application on Microsoft's .NET stack on Windows, GtkSharp supports it just fine, and because it uses GTK it will look native on all of the supported platforms.

Disclaimer: I haven't actually tried any of the above.

bluefinity··on [dead]
That image looks really fake... look how blurry the the soft buttons down the bottom are. The Chrome icon is also cut off a little on the left, and the app list button looks like it was made in MS Paint.

The store description in image #4 is also far too short.

If you look at the default wallpaper for the Nexus 7, you can see it makes a "7" shape. Same for the leaked photos of the Nexus 5, except with a "5" shape. However, the background in this photo doesn't show a "10", it shows something similar to the Nexus 5's "5" background.

So I'm fairly certain this is fake.

bluefinity··on How China's Xiaomi Does In A Week What Apple Does In A Year: Update Devices
Xiaomi are China-only at the moment, whereas Apple are global. In the article, they say Xiaomi have a higher market share within China than Apple, so I would say they're doing very well indeed, especially considering that the company was only founded in 2010. That's the same year that the iPhone 4 was released.
