bluefinity··on Fixing America's elevators is becoming a heavy lift
What duopoly? Just off the top of my head, there is at least Schindler, Otis, Kone, Toshiba, ThyssenKrupp, and Mitsubishi.
bluefinity··on Xiaomi Home Integration for Home Assistant
macOS is not really a good OS for running a server anyway, and Docker Desktop is intended for development more than anything else.
bluefinity··on Palm’s CEO emails Steve Jobs (2007)
Jobs tries to bully and threaten a smaller company into signing an illegal agreement and all you have to say is how great of a writer he is because of how few sentences he wrote?
bluefinity··on Gemma: New Open Models
To be fair, the tweet says that they don't work on the models at Google anymore, not that they have left Google.

Might be true, might not be. It's unsourced speculation.

bluefinity··on OpenAI Deal Lets Employees Sell Shares at $86B Valuation
(1) You can't really go based off "views" on Twitter. They don't really mean anything, just that someone scrolled past the tweet. I found that baguette tweet you were talking about, and it only had a couple thousand likes. Nothing about him seems like a master troll, that's a cop out in the style of "joke's on them I was only pretending".

(2) I think that was more down to him being the former CEO with access to inside information rather than a master manipulator...

(3) His wife having long COVID doesn't give him a free pass to promote literal conspiracy theories, where all the world's governments and press are working together to hide the truth from everyone.

bluefinity··on Overworked and underpaid, VFX workers vote to unionize at Marvel
> Why wouldn't it have one?

Because that's illegal?

bluefinity··on Google Maps has become an eyesore
Most maps do that, even print ones. It's not about a "clean look", but about readability. There is also a scale, in the bottom right corner.
bluefinity··on Annual EFF Awards: Alexandra Elbakyan, Library Freedom Project, and Signal
I'm not sure Elbakyan receiving this award is particularly appropriate, considering she is strongly pro-Putin and is a big fan of Joseph Stalin (she regularly quotes him on VK).
bluefinity··on CoQ4 is a functional substitute for CoQ10 and can be targeted to mitochondria
Nice conspiracy theory, but there is no declared upper limit on vitamin K.
bluefinity··on PCSX2 is an open source PS2 Emulator
He only made 4 commits to the repo, so probably not.
bluefinity··on Coinbase stock lost over 75% value
While "toxin" refers specifically to a poison produced by a living cell or organism, "toxic" does not -- it's a synonym of poisonous, directly derived from the Latin word for "poisonous".

"Toxin" is a newer invention, derived from "toxic" by adding the biochemistry-related suffix "-in" to indicate toxic substances of biological origin.

bluefinity··on Mexico truckers protest new Texas inspections, halt trade at border bridges
No, they definitely do not. Foreign relations is a federal responsibility, as laid out in the constitution.
bluefinity··on Mexico truckers protest new Texas inspections, halt trade at border bridges
Have you read the commerce clause? It's not very long, so I'll post it here:

> To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;

bluefinity··on Penpot: Open-source design and prototyping platform
Which in turn is a clone of Sketch.
bluefinity··on What's the future of Servo?
You're arguing in very bad faith here. That's a huge misrepresentation of what pro-choice advocates want.

> You're demanding a special privilege for your partner and then talking as though it were a natural right.

It's not a special privilege. It's a privilege people who are straight get but not people who are gay, which is not okay.

bluefinity··on UnrealCV
libccv perhaps?
bluefinity··on Is the Great Attractor a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?

bluefinity··on The Science Behind Honey’s Eternal Shelf Life (2013)
HMF doesn't seem to be carcinogenic: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21462333
bluefinity··on iPhone Sales Drop, and Apple’s 13-Year Surge Ebbs
The 16GB version of the current generation has 2GB memory. I got the 8GB (with 1GB memory) originally and ended up selling it and buying the higher-spec version. 2GB is just a much better experience under Android.
bluefinity··on An attorney suing Uber, Lyft, GrubHub and a dozen California tech firms
Uber is the world's most highly valued private company? Somebody better tell Saudi Aramco.
bluefinity··on Exploring the new .NET “dotnet” CLI
I don't think that's the reason, you could just quote the filename (which is commonly done if the name contains spaces anyway):

    myapp "-verify.txt"
bluefinity··on “Googles 'vertical center div css' for the 100th time. reads for 7 minutes”
I had a lot of fun when I was younger with websites on https://byethost.com/index.php/free-hosting, but no idea what they're like nowdays. Worth a look, in any case.
bluefinity··on Behavioral Profiling: The password you can't change
That would be... disturbing. Fortunately it's not true, as you can see for yourself with the chrome developer tools.
bluefinity··on Stop pushing the web forward
Yes, at least in ES7. Babel supports them.
bluefinity··on Dell XPS 13 Review
Give µBlock[1] a try, it seems to use quite a bit less memory. I've also found it to block more ads by default.

bluefinity··on Narrowing the notion of a runtime in Rust
It's 20 days until the 1.0 alpha -- from the timeline in that blog post, stable would be March 30 at the earliest.
bluefinity··on Remove Ex-Mode from Neovim
The post doesn't make it clear at first, but they're not removing support for reading ex commands from stdin, just the interactive ex mode you can enter from inside the editor.
bluefinity··on India’s Toilet Race Failing as Villages Don’t Use Them
Builders get kickbacks from the manufacturer of these smart toilets if they choose to put one in when their client doesn't specify what toilet they want.

Probably not the only reason, but it definitely contributes.

bluefinity··on Logs Are Streams, Not Files (2011)
I think you mean tail -F yourfile.

--follow and -f are the same thing.

bluefinity··on Zinc – Rust’s safety features applied to embedded development
