blairbeckwith··on Shopify Merchants Can Now Accept Bitcoin
Thanks for the kind words, Will. Onwards & upwards!
blairbeckwith··on iPhone 5c
I really don't get the external case design. Seeing just a couple letters of "iPhone" through the holes in the case looks incredibly bad.
blairbeckwith··on Shopify POS
I manage the 3rd party apps program at Shopify – feel free to let me know if you have any questions about getting started. @blairbeckwith on twitter and blair@shopify.com.
blairbeckwith··on The $80 web development workstation
Am I getting whooshed here? You can definitely have multiple workspaces (with multiple windows in each - not just fullscreen apps) and switch between them by swiping...
blairbeckwith··on How Paypal and Reddit faked their way to traction
I'm usually not bothered by stuff like this, but let's play some role-reversal.

"Dating services know what men want (who doesn’t) and seed the network with photos of Latin American models with eclectic interests (not that the latter matters)."

"Dating services know what women want (who doesn't) and seed the network with wealthy-looking men with genuine personalities (not that the latter matters)."

blairbeckwith··on The Real Value of Stock Options
I disagree with your first point. Everything you learn is not dependant on the outcome. There is much you can learn in a startup that may not be negated by the company failing: how to wear multiple hats, individual tactics that alone weren't enough to save the company, etc. etc.
blairbeckwith··on Ask HN: I'm quadriplegic – can you help me with my security?
I'm not sure if any desktop software does this, but (some?) Android devices can optionally require a blink to unlock with facial recognition.
blairbeckwith··on GameBoy Advance emulator for iOS, no jailbreak required
Are there any other examples of apps that would normally be forbidden in the App Store that can be installed in this way?
blairbeckwith··on We were wrong
Reading some of the comments on that blog post, I left thinking: Am I a terrible person?

I just don't see what's wrong with this project, and I certainly don't see the link between it and "sexual violence" – where is Kickstarter making this connection? Say what you will about the seduction community, my very brief and infrequent encounters with it have been largely positive and I left thinking that they were a generally respectful, if a little bit misguided, group. There's some of their terms and techniques I don't like, such as "negging", but there's things like that in virtually every community that I don't like.

Certainly not sexually violent.

blairbeckwith··on New Dropbox Homepage
Agreed, but it will arguably be more prominent then ever going forward, largely because of Apple doing it.
blairbeckwith··on PayPal denies teenager reward for finding website bug
No reason you'd need a Facebook account to find some exploits.
blairbeckwith··on Poll: Where do you host your static website?
Same. Maybe this is evidence of how unpopular my site is, but I think I've paid a dollar or two over the last three years.
blairbeckwith··on Wednesday Night’s Human Matchmakers Take Some Of The Work Out Of Online Dating
You know, this service is in the online dating space.

Is it possible that the joke's not really on anybody? Is it possible that different strokes really ARE for different folks?
blairbeckwith··on Rainy Day Ideas For Things You Can Build To Grow Your Business
This is really true in my case. Last year I called up 100 of our highest GMV customers at Shopify – these were busy merchants who almost certainly had better things to do than talk to me about how they felt about Shopify.

Out of those 100 customers, 81 picked up the phone, and of the 81 that did, exactly 3 didn't want to talk to me. The rest graciously provided amazing, actionable feedback.

blairbeckwith··on Show HN: Launching Hoverboard – beautiful, responsive portfolios
Ahh, I'm sorry. I should have specified I was in Firefox (and should have tried it in Chrome!)

Black and white looks tons better, but I think it would depend on the picture.

blairbeckwith··on Show HN: Launching Hoverboard – beautiful, responsive portfolios
Hmm, interesting. I'm not seeing this behavior on mine: http://hoverboard.io/blair

I can't tell if you're serious. Wouldn't the world be a better place if people just drank what they wanted to drink?

Usually, posts like this make me gag a little on the cheesiness, but this was well done. There's some really good advice in here. I especially like:

"Let people leave your life when they need to. Leave a light on for them in case they ever decide to return. Collect those lights and regularly remember why you keep them lit."

Custom colors and basic styling would be amazing too. I love the look, but now I'm struggling to find a picture that looks nice with blue and turquoise.

You really, really need to let me pay you for this. I'd pay $10/month for this, easily.

Do you allow custom domains?

blairbeckwith··on 10 years later, ‘Star Wars Kid’ speaks out
Yeah, because everyone on the Internet is sarcastic all the time.

McGill is a great school, you're right. And nobody implied otherwise.

blairbeckwith··on The next generation of Instapaper
This is classic Marco, nothing to see here. He's just a child who starts this stuff over nothing, from what I've seen.
blairbeckwith··on The Beginner's Guide to Sales
I much prefer Pocket's abilities to handle multiple media types.

I like how Pocket is a first-class citizen on all of the platforms I use, not just iOS. I know Instapaper has an Android app, but it sucks.

I prefer the design of Pocket over Instapaper. I'm not a designer, so I can't comment on which is actually "better", only which I prefer.

I do prefer Instapaper's business model. I would like a chance to pay for Pocket.

Finally, I am not a huge fan of Marco Arment, and would rather support Pocket than him.

blairbeckwith··on The Beginner's Guide to Sales
I'm not sure about Instapaper (haven't used it for a long time), but Pocket has great support for multi-page stuff, and handled this like a champ.

Full disclosure: I'm a big Pocket fan, and a big Instapaper anti-fan.

blairbeckwith··on Razer will not cancel 90%-off test coupons
Who said anything about fair? This is a business, not a charity.
blairbeckwith··on Facebook smartphone with HTC launching soon
It's an iPhone 5 with the touch buttons added.
blairbeckwith··on Ask HN: Etiquette of Applying for Internships at Startups
I am not sure if my experience is typical, but I successfully landed my internship at Shopify, which was my number one choice, by emailing the CEO directly and telling him I'd like to work there.

It's only a data point of one, but it worked well enough for me. If you can't find their email online, try firstname@company.tld.

blairbeckwith··on Allegations of past and present Internet crime haunt Airbnb co-founder
I had never heard of the guy until today, and within about five minutes of browsing his site and Google, I found the same thing.

He's just a child.
