blackboxxx··on Running in My Boxer Briefs
I've had nightmares about showing up in public places without my pants on, and it actually happened to you! The photos are proof!

Inspiring story Jason. Inspiring because I know from previous posts you had a terrible knee injury, and inspiring because I feel like taking up running now.

I guess I owe you thanks!

blackboxxx··on Why you or your company should hire me as your aprentice.
Considering English isn't your mother tongue, you write well. Better than many college students I've met.

Since studying French, I have a new found admiration for those who know a second language.

I wish you success!

I'll add medicating. If you do a lot of medicating to get through your work, it's time for an exit strategy.

But then the product he's delivering isn't special, and if he did that I would never subscribe.
blackboxxx··on How I decided the price for my Japanese candy subscription service
What about soviet pop culture art? magazines? Oddities?Russia seems like such an interesting place, I would reconsider your idea.
blackboxxx··on Ask HN: Client wrote returned check for over $10,000. How to report him?
If a prospective client isn't willing and able to enthusiastically pay 1/3 upfront, you should run, run far away.

I wish you the best of luck in getting paid in full!

blackboxxx··on What frustrates me the most as an entrepreneur
Me believing in your startup is included in my rate. So is passion. If you're going to nickel and dime my rate, both will affected.
blackboxxx··on Scott Adams: The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do
When there are so many people in this world in need of a friendly visit, or assistance in some way, shape or form, doing nothing is irresponsible.

Bottom line. HN pretty much qualifies for doing nothing. We should all abandon HN immediately and forever and get on with our lives.

I dare you.

blackboxxx··on What frustrates me the most as an entrepreneur
I'm conflicted about this post. I think your expressions are heartfelt, but it sounds like you've been window shopping when you don't have the funds to buy.

If you knew you didn't have the money to fairly pay for this designer's services, why ask? To the more cynical among us, this post may seem like a manipulative way to indirectly guilt-trip this guy into working for you far below his asking rate.

Look, you know how to get press and upvotes on HN. You obviously know how to influence people. But maybe now isn't the time to be speaking about this hiring issue while it's still unresolved.

blackboxxx··on SEO Meets Magic: The Gathering (SEO card game)
Creator here. Great question.

SERPs & Spyders is similar to Magic: The Gathering because the cards are collectable, vary in efficacy and purpose, and the cards can be combined to multiply their attack strength (certain SEO tactics work well together).

It's also similar to MTG because you try and dominate the other player's played card(s) with your own, better card(s).

SERPs & Spyders is also incredibly dissimilar to MTG. Each card contains an actual SEO tactic you can use online. The cards can also be a reference tool or help you build/rethink your online SEO strategies.

blackboxxx··on Jimmy Wales: Wikipedia is Losing Contributors
And these wildly inappropriate links, you remove them, correct?
blackboxxx··on My experience with a 'negative review' scammer.
Not doing the right thing for fear of retribution? Staying quiet essentially allows them to do the same to others.

Fear should never dictate the decision process. They need to be reported.

blackboxxx··on Keep Your Commitments
Hmm, is this some cosmic hint for me to get my client work done today, as I promised? The timing of this post is a bit uncanny, but very motivating.

Time to get back to work.

blackboxxx··on What is your best favourite KDE distro? - Linux notes from DarkDuck
In the past few years I've only used Kubuntu, which is a fine OS. KDE is the only GUI I use.

I think Microsoft's Windows 8 is going to make KDE look very old. Innovation would be welcome.

blackboxxx··on Ask HN: Advice on staying inspired/motivated
Let's face it, there will be times when you'll have to work without motivation and inspiration. It's in those situations where efficiency and giving yourself rewards and treating yourself well are extra important.

Basketball star Kobe Bryant says (about basketball) that he "honors the craft". That's why he's so good at the game.

That's what you need to do. Take what your already good at and get better. Honor the craft. Don't wait for inspiration, go after it.

blackboxxx··on I Want To Unsubscribe, Not "Manage My Preferences"
When an email tries to be sneaky with the old "Manage my Preferences" trick, I flag it as spam. They should know better.

BONUS: if anywhere in the email they mention the word "webinar", they're gone.

blackboxxx··on Why Sex in Advertising isn’t Sexy
Even if sexist ads sell, are they good for society? Or do they trivialize and objectify women and give children unrealistic, toxic stereotypes to live up to.

And yes, these ads are stupid. Stupid because they lack originality and intelligence. They sometimes work because they are manipulative.

blackboxxx··on Why Sex in Advertising isn’t Sexy
I think this article is highly relevant to HN readers. It's about marketing and challenges the notion that sex sells.

Personally, I think using hot women and sexual innuendo is insulting and played out. I have three daughters and I don't want them to live in a world where women are treated like juicy morsels of steak.

People rarely remember the brand or the product in racy, sexist advertising anyway. They only remember the skantily clad women. It's a waste of time and advertiser dollars.

blackboxxx··on Nintendo: Apple's Latest Prey
Nintendo have two things going for them: quality products, and the willingness and ability to innovate. They could still be relevant. I hope so. I think they're a great company.
blackboxxx··on Ask HN: What are some real problems that need to be solved?
Urban sprawl. Wildlife is being forced into closer proximity with humans because of suburban developments and golf courses. Land developers make a quick buck and wipe out natural habitats.

If you see a bat or raccoon on your property, realize that it doesn't have a choice. There needs to be compassion and awareness.

blackboxxx··on Ask HN: Is Google's +1 button one of the signal for Google Search?
Go ahead. Put that stupid +1 button on your website. Tell your mother and all your friends to click on it.

I hope you're my competition :)

blackboxxx··on The Secret Ingredient In Your Orange Juice
Not sure if this is an urban myth or not, but I've heard Cheese Wiz is actually grey. Orange food coloring is later added to the goo to give it that cheddar color.
blackboxxx··on 19 year-old Stanford Ph.D. dropout Andrew Hsu is Changing Education
Andrew is stating a fact. I didn't catch even a wisp of arrogance in that statement. He's merely telling the truth.
blackboxxx··on IQ scores in relation to web browser choice
I don't care.
blackboxxx··on IQ scores in relation to web browser choice
I would think IQ in relation to websites being visited would be a better. Rupert Murdock websites = lower score, that sort of thing.
