birksherty··on Telegram founder Pavel Durov arrested at French airport
That's exactly what control by gov is, otherwise they can already see public channels groups.
birksherty··on The oceans have broken temperature records every day over the past year
Worst resource that caused and will cause this biggest issue. Realistically they will most probably be a corporate slave and never be an Einstein.
birksherty··on The new science on what ultra-processed food does to the brain
> The basis is self evident:

No it's not evidence.

You wrote so many things but you also could not provide any evidence on what you said, product selling is not proof of anything. Please give proper evidence while accusing others of such and writing long comments.

birksherty··on Oceans May Have Already Seen 1.7°C of Warming
Killing is heinous act giving unparalleled suffering to others, that starts right at the moment, to many related person. Not same as one person doing nothing to reduce climate change. You are comparing apples to sky.
birksherty··on Microsoft Edge ignores user wishes, slurps tabs from Chrome without permission
Not sure what you are talking about. I am gaming on it for years and as my main PC.
birksherty··on Nepal bans TikTok and says it disrupts social harmony
These days all news channels send paper sites are doing the government propaganda, even nyt, wp.
birksherty··on Swedish union declares strike for Tesla employees
"According to the Economic Policy Institute, wage theft costs U.S. workers as much as $50 billion per year — a number far higher than all robberies, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts combined"

Privileged Americans will do anything to steal labour and instead make the hard working people seem like the criminal. But the managers who steal money are completely safe and never accused by the privileged.

Only one of the reasons why unions are essential in US.

birksherty··on A suicide crisis among veterinarians
Just living without dying is not a good life. If anyone wants to stop suicide they should prevent the root cause that leads to it, not just stop giving a less painful way to do so. It's inhuman and many forced to die horribly because of this. It's always the privileged who decides to make suicide harder.

They think life is always going to be good at after waiting. For many it's not true. Privileged people think just because they themselves have it easier, people who are willing to die just mentally ill and don't know how to enjoy life.

If we are brought to life easily without thinking and no consent, then there should be a way to leave if anyone wants to. Life should not be a one way hell trap, suffering for long time just so that well off people can feel better and not hear about suicide.

Nobody actually does anything to prevent root cause, but it's completely ok for them if people suffer long time without dying. Media will also never show humans whose life is still miserable after not dying. It must be a feel good story.

birksherty··on ‘I just assumed it would happen’: the unspoken grief of childless men
Completely disagree. You do whatever with your own life. But kid is a 3rd person that you bring. If the life they are coming to is already bad, financially, legged behind from others in many ways, or any other, that's selfish. Forcing someone to terrible start without their consent.

Parent should first make sure they are good to bring someone else and not to give a disadvantage start, playing gamble with life who did not ask.

birksherty··on Pesticide safety limit for salmon farms watered down after industry lobbying
It is bad. Only one species destroying ecosystem all other species, does not matter if only one species got benefit. Period.

Humans thinking, they own Earth and can do whatever they want even if it kills everything else can never be regarded as good.

birksherty··on The elite's war on remote work has nothing to do with productivity
Makes sense because rich business owners helping other rich people is a thing. These are not landlords, they are big companies.
birksherty··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
Parents should not have undue influence on other's (the kid) life as they wish by giving a stupid name. Instead parents should change their own name to xxx if they like it so much.
birksherty··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
There is no need for names to evolve.

Based on what you said, let the kid have a proper name and then they themselves can change to weird as they wish later. Stupid parents have no right to give a stupid joke name to others.

birksherty··on Apple Vision
I have much more real and honest interaction meeting physically people whome I don't know from childhood. Online it's all a pretentious character acting.

May be evading taxes by cheating is a great thing to get praised.
birksherty··on Googlers angry about CEO’s $226M pay after cuts in perks and 12,000 layoffs
> Purely engineering firms fail in the long run as they drift away from what buyers want and chase interesting things because they think they know better.

Eh, it's not about purely engineering. Many businesses who are not related to engineering fails exact same reason. They only care about short time growth and loses. Happens all the time.

birksherty··on “Healthy obesity” doesn’t exist. It is unequivocally bad for you
Weight being mostly of muscle is different than mostly of fat. When we say obese, it's the later one.
birksherty··on HP have updated their printers to ban ‘non-HP’ cartridges
Just want to make another suggestion. Ink tank printers are also good, can print coloured prints for cheap. We have one and just need to buy the inks and pour the ink into the tanks of printer.
birksherty··on TikTok “teen” AI filter is hitting hard for Gen-X users
> I don't understand why anyone's reaction would be to cry

> I have a house in the Bay Area

> I look at my life and I'm satisfied

That's why you don't understand. People in HN are quite privileged. May see others having existential crisis and wonder what is wrong with others.

birksherty··on World’s largest four-day work week trial finds few are going back
> came out somewhere between 38~39 hours

Also worked more than 40 hrs full concentration work for few weeks, but that soon burned me out. Now I can't do that more than a day and don't ever want in future.

birksherty··on World’s largest four-day work week trial finds few are going back
Once in a while it might be true. But this post is about job. Doing that for 8-16 hrs often will burn out and later I'd avoid such jobs.
birksherty··on Tax raids at BBC offices in India enter second day
Most people don't know all the details. They see news that court did not find any evidence and that's all they hear. Everyone wants to stay in a bubble of their liking.
birksherty··on My 2022 self was wrong about meditation, monitors, and sleep
> Optimizing sleep improves productivity.

This is the issue with modern world. Everything has to increase productivity, hustle life. Multiple studies showed people need more sleep.

> blowing an entire day sleeping

Who said sleep entire day?

All these takes are from capitalist hustle culture, does not have any scientific base.

birksherty··on “In roughly two hours, 1647 devices are about to be wiped”
Not always. Said by people who worked at tesla/spacex, many engineers and tech people have to dance around, present correct decisions such a way that the asshat at top realises it and does it. Lots of theatre.

If they don't do that, the guy just does whatever he want, often leading horrible outcomes. It's only working because there are enough people who are passionate enough for the project and want it to succeed. Such people would leave if that was just a software company.

birksherty··on Ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer (2022)
Many people all over the world suffer because their parents give birth without proper thinking by their parents, for selfish reason (to have meaning themselves).

Do whatever people want with their own life. But when it involves bringing someone else to life without their consent and no going back, there should be some checks and bounds and should not be for selfish reasons.

birksherty··on Ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer (2022)
I would have chosen not to be born.

People here are privileged, live in a better country, good income etc. Because they have better life, they expect others also to say it's great. Many children are born without proper thinking by their parents, for selfish reason and suffer every day.

birksherty··on The Grapes of Wrath’s Foreshadowing of the Cold War (2018)

birksherty··on QBittorrent v4.5.0: The Hitchhiker's Guide to Legible Text
It's should not be necessary for all to give feedback for basic things and developers who have no idea about design should not change design.
birksherty··on LineageOS 20
Yes, this is the main reason for me. I can backup and restore data of any app, on different phone.

Another reason is XPrivacy Lua. Nothing beats it from privacy point.
