bilsbie··on Ask HN: Which harness do you use with Qwen3.8 27B? And why?
It must have some kind of harness at least?? Like “you’re an AI assistant, answer questions”?

You need a harness? Does llama include one?
bilsbie··on Transformers Explained Visually
Can you explain this more, maybe dumb it down a little? Sounds important. I have t quite been able to get the attention section to click for me.

I’m not understanding what this is. It’s a faster cheaper LLM?
bilsbie··on Show HN: An e-ink frame that hears birds and draws them as 1800s illustrations
This could totally be a commercial product. I picture it being sold with a bird feeder. Maybe it uses a camera on the feeder.

Then have the screen look like a biologists notebook where he sketches the bird and writes a few notes about the time and its behavior.

Really the whole world should be.

bilsbie··on We must pace the frontier
Right as open source models catch up to frontier closed source ones for 1/10th (or less) of the cost suddenly it's time to hit the brakes! Funny how that works.

bilsbie··on We must pace the frontier
Remember when we stopped developing nuclear power for no reason?
bilsbie··on We must pace the frontier
Step one is great. Do it! Where I disagree is where you try to regulate what I do. Don’t take away my open source AI.

I had trouble weeding through all the marketing speak.

bilsbie··on How Climate Resilient Are the Largest Cities?
Friendly reminder that the NOAA's USHCN reference network of well sited thermometers with continuous temperature records and no urban heat island bias shows no warming trend over the past ~20 years.

bilsbie··on How Climate Resilient Are the Largest Cities?
Watch “an inconvenient truth”

It seems like human movements have the equivalent of small fast models to perform routine actions and balance but the higher brain is able to take over as needed. Is anyone trying to replicate that concept?
bilsbie··on Finite time blowup for an averaged three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation (2014)
If it is solved what are the applications of that? What changes?
bilsbie··on How the Disaster of "Forever Chemicals" Was Kept Secret
This is a MAHA scam. These chemicals are fine.
bilsbie··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
Will it still refuse my mitochondria questions?
bilsbie··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
I get the impression they want AI marketing points but don’t actually want people to use local AI on their products.

I have no idea why. They could be so successful if they leaned into local AI.

bilsbie··on 507 Mechanical Movements
This would be cool AI training data.
