bigbonch··on Tiny volumetric display
Reminds me of this 20Q toy I had as a kid: https://youtu.be/2C1No7cv84o?si=xAFibiv9LeVxM-rF
bigbonch··on How to check if two SQL tables are the same
When you say "bag semantics" are you just referring to Set Theory? Is there a formal distinction between bags and sets?
bigbonch··on Is El Salvador Up?
Just say immigrant. No need to make sure people know you're talking about the white kind.
bigbonch··on A coder’s guide to coffee (2002)
Michael Pollan has an interesting take on being addicted to Coffee. He suspects most of the modern world is thanks to caffeine and coffee breaks. His conclusion is: although there are some 'negative' side effects, those effects are minimal and the positive effects outweighs them considerably.
bigbonch··on The collapse of complex software
There are many embellished, hand wavy statements in this comment.

Could you give real world examples of:

  * "In reality, components have complex interactions far outside of what is captured in the component interfaces"
  * How template metaprogramming "precisely express[es] behavioral contracts... that are difficult to do in other languages"

I think you contradict your poetry with "Any non-trivial software system has to be reasoned about as a monolith at some level to correctly address complexity". If _any_ non-trivial software system _can_ be reasoned about as a monolith then it is true there exists some model with sufficient simplicity that there are well-defined discrete components.
bigbonch··on Web3 is centralized and inefficient
Walmart Canada has used blockchain [1] to better their supply chains systems. I suspect when you say you "haven't found one legitimate use case for blockchain" you're referring to the consumer space based on current offerings. I would argue that "blockchain" just as an idea and technology has plenty of use cases.

bigbonch··on HTTP/3: Everything you need to know about the next-generation web protocol
Would still be constrained to head-of-line blocking which HTTP/3 aims to solve.
bigbonch··on Algorithmic bias bounty challenge
To add to this I believe the fundamental issue is intent. Deterministic feeds and "organic" virality is trusting purely human intent. Modern algorithms muddy the network of intent and my tin foil hat take is that we're hard-wired to perceive everything as intent from some other human.
bigbonch··on The psychology behind ‘revenge bedtime procrastination’
I don't have much of an opinion on generational living, but could you elaborate on how it guarantees women disproportionately end up with kin work? Also I find it interesting that the institution of motherhood is completely removed from the modern day narrative of empowerment. As long as it is fairly left up to the woman to choose, why would choosing motherhood not be empowering?
bigbonch··on 25 Years In Speech Technology and I still don’t talk to my computer
This mindset is exactly why these assistants are bad. Start with the UX then work backwards from there and make it happen.
bigbonch··on Seneca on The Shortness of Time (2017)
I would ammend the last two points and say Chemistry is Physics applied to physical primitives and Biology is Chemistry applied to organic phenomena or something like that.
bigbonch··on Is there an alternative to Stack Overflow?
He asked for alternative websites. You gave him the same kind of response he's getting on Stack Overflow that's prompting him to seek alternatives in the first place.
