biehl··on Docker Sandboxes – Disposable, isolated sandboxes for AI agents
Looks really nice. Would it be easy to make a qwen-cli wrapper?
biehl··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro
The new container tool is also very nice on MacOS
biehl··on China's BEV trucks and the end of diesel's dominance
That did not age well.
biehl··on State of Terminal Emulators in 2025: The Errant Champions
That sounds like an awesome concept. However, I'm restarting Linux usage after 10 years on Mac, and I am surprised on how much less annoying the Shift-ctrl-v is compared to what I expected.
biehl··on Is Postgres read heavy or write heavy?
Do you happen to know similar queries for Oracle?
biehl··on Progress towards universal Copy/Paste shortcuts on Linux
Also lovely! I was going to look for somthing like Toshy - https://github.com/RedBearAK/toshy
biehl··on Progress towards universal Copy/Paste shortcuts on Linux
Lovely. Do you have some tips for that? Something you put in bashrc?
biehl··on The Framework Desktop is a beast
I think DHH compares them because they are both the latest, top-line chips. I think DHHs benchmarks show that they have different performance characteristics. But DHHs favorite benchmark favors whatever runs native linux and docker.

For local LLM the higher memory bandwith of M4 Max makes it much more performant.

Arstechnica has more benchmarks for non-llm things https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/08/review-framework-des...

biehl··on This Month in Ladybird
Thanks. That looks like nice progress.

Any news on the usage of Swift?

biehl··on Show HN: An SQS Alternative on Postgres
I've thought about this too. But I can't even tell what would be the good default. At low load events seem nicer, but at high load polling seems necessary?
biehl··on Framework Laptop 16 Review
Yes. That mainboard repurpose is awesome! A dedicated mini can probably have better/quieter cooling. Fingers crossed.
biehl··on Framework Laptop 16 Review
Are you considering some quiet NUC-type machines? I have a very nice Starlabs Byte v1, but even more competition for the Mac Mini would be great.
biehl··on 9 years of Apple text editor solo dev
Lovely writeup. Making that webpage must have taken quite some time also?

A question out of curiosity. What are your thoughts on re-writing in Swift?

If it were me, I am sure my tech-fingers would itch for a rewrite, but my business hands would slap those thoughts away.

biehl··on Apple's use of Swift and SwiftUI in iOS 17
Thanks for the great posts. Will you also do a post about MacOS this year?
biehl··on Postgres: The next generation
I sent you a note and added my email to my profile. Best of luck with the writing.
biehl··on Postgres: The next generation
I would be happy to have a look at your book drafts.
biehl··on Electric cars are better for the environment, no matter the power source
Traffic is bad, but fossil traffic is strictly worse than EV traffic. So again, it seems possible to advocate both less traffic and that the remaining traffic should be better.
biehl··on Electric cars are better for the environment, no matter the power source
It seems possible to do both. Both encourage the shift from fossil cars to EVs and to encourage more cycling and public transport.
biehl··on Debian 12 'Bookworm' New Features and Release Date
I know it is all Toystory names, but everytime I hear the name I think of this wonderful story https://j-novel.club/series/ascendance-of-a-bookworm
biehl··on Microsoft Teams is blocking Firefox Nightly
Works for me with the Office 365 Teams. Is the one on live.com different?
biehl··on StarFighter 16 inch: 4K Coreboot/Ryzen Linux laptop
I have the Byte desktop machine from them. I waited quite a bit for the delivery, but the machine is very nice.
biehl··on Features I'd Like in PostgreSQL
Wow. That seems awesome. Do lots of people use it? Is it reliable?
biehl··on Ask HN: Where are the simple Git GUIs?
I think Sourcetree is a very nice gui for git. https://www.sourcetreeapp.com/
biehl··on Code Simplicity: The Fundamentals of Software
Anyone who has read it - is it good?
biehl··on Engineers should do customer support and success
I am a fan of having some element of the team and solution architect also do the support. It is useful for aligning incentives, and it kills some of the risky and useless refactorings that a "sheltered" engineering team can be tempted to do..
biehl··on Intel, SiFive Demo High-Performance RISC-V on Intel 4
Yes, I looked at that one too. But since I only need it for work I went with the small and quiet.
biehl··on Intel, SiFive Demo High-Performance RISC-V on Intel 4
I am getting one of these https://dk.starlabs.systems/pages/desktops to go with my M1 to run x86 based VMs, docker and similar stuff. An extra expense, but hopefully a good combination.
biehl··on Day ahead electricity prices for EU
It makes sense for Denmark to have two, as each of them is connected to different larger markets and have limited interconnection between each other.
