besnn00··on .NET for NES Game Console on 6502 Microprocessors
No objects and GC so far. I guess local variables are stored on the stack and for everything on the heap (globals, strings) the transpiler maps MSIL loads and stores to 6502 loads and stores.
besnn00··on CS 168: The Modern Algorithmic Toolbox (2023)
Looks hard. I doubt I'd remember much practical knowledge from the course, only what the algorithms are used for (which is fine).
besnn00··on Starlink's laser system is beaming 42 petabytes of data per day
per day*
besnn00··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins.
besnn00··on Marcel the Shell
Honestly any interactive shell + unix tools + any scripting language you feel comfortable with should cover the majority of things you may want to do on the command line.
besnn00··on Marcel the Shell
Message to the person responsible for the site: they should use code blocks instead of images for their code. I say this because I can't read the text inside the images from mobile. It's way too small.
besnn00··on Ask HN: Anyone else read A Confession by Tolstoy?
I also read it a few days ago and for me it was very underwhelming. A disappointment for me was that Tolstoi was always looking for some perfection or regularity that would explain everything. It is arrogant of us to think that there should be something when as far as we can see there is only all that has ever been and nothing more. But I think there was a hidden theme there, which is something that many people who have read Nietzsche but also positive nihilists agree with: we give meaning to life. This was what Tolstoi found in tradition. A meaning that had been passed to new generations, evolving bit by bit but retaining it's essence. Only he couldn't stand that God was so ingrained in it.
besnn00··on The sticky history of baklava
Same situation for albanians but we use walnuts instead of almonds.
besnn00··on Apple to pay up to $500M to iPhone users
"Approved claimants are expected to receive $65 each."
besnn00··on Rectify11 Improving upon the Windows 11 experience
Just curious: does Alt+Tab work for you?
besnn00··on How do I make a computer
Wouldn't say simpler than LEGO as there are some nuances. For example:

* making sure the motherboard supports the CPU via socket and also nominally

* making sure the heatsink can be mounted on top of the CPU socket

* having the case fit your motherboard form factor

* if there is a dedicated GPU, making sure it fits inside the case and there is a PCI-E slot with sufficient lanes for it

* if not, making sure there is an integrated GPU

* selecting a PSU that can handle the maximum power load for the GPU and that has a power cable for the GPU if it needs one

* making sure to buy the right type of ram in accordance with what the CPU and motherboard support

* if you want wifi, making sure there is built-in or there is a m.2 slot for wifi

* if you want a m.2 NVMe SSD, there should be a m.2 slot with the right key interface

Not often you end up buying parts that don't work well with each other and need to buy other parts. I once bought a small factor m.2 ssd only to discover it didn't fit the slot. I think it was trying to fit an M key device into a B key slot. Sometimes even the vendor data can be incorrect.

besnn00··on Games That Don't Fake the Space
Video essays are pretentious in general, but why do you say that for this particular one?
besnn00··on Ask HN: SICP equivalent for distributed system design
I agree. Singlehandedly the reason for me passing my database exam. Very thorough and technical.
besnn00··on System Shock remake
Funny way to summarize it. Totally loved the game and can't wait for the SS2 Remake.
besnn00··on How small is the smallest .NET Hello World binary?
Should it become idempotent after a certain number of iterations? What were the results?
besnn00··on 20 Reasons to Use OpenBSD
That's the joke I think.
besnn00··on My network home setup – v4.0
I love that it looks so rustic.
besnn00··on GNU Octave
It dominates among engineers too, mainly because of Simulink and the toolboxes it offers.
besnn00··on When was the term ‘directory’ replaced by ‘folder’?
It's likely because of the fact that folders are used as icons for directories.
besnn00··on DNS over Wikipedia
Wikipedia has helped me in a couple of instances in which Google or DuckDuckGo couldn't, for example getting the latest onion or clearnet URL for a certain site.
besnn00··on Only virgin type of olive oil consumption reduces the risk of mortality: study
What do you mean it exploded?
besnn00··on Bogotá's website has sign language titles
No reason to get upset over language conventions. There are many countries in which Colombia is refered to as Columbia (mostly phonetically). Same for the US: most countries refer to it simply as America. There are at least two countries which can be refered to as Congo. Beijing is refered to as Peking in old literature and in many european countries as well.
besnn00··on 2160p resolution is now premium feature on YouTube
Did nobody check to see this is fake?
besnn00··on Victorian Hacker News
I love it
besnn00··on Ask HN: Old school K&R C language. Is there (remote) work?
Not a chance on finding work for K&R C, but there may be some (local) embedded jobs in certain countries. Embedded programming should suit this person well given that it has to do with programming in limited-resource environments.
besnn00··on Ask HN: Why does Albanian data get so easy leaked?
I don't think that is the case. Lower pay doesn't have to mean low quality software. Albanian software houses suffer from poor engineering decisions. I've seen source code of outsourced software meant for Italian government agencies where sensitive user data is "encrypted" as base64. When the engineering department deems base64 as appropriate encryption and nobody raises an eyebrow inside the company, safe to say it is a sign of incompetence.
besnn00··on M2 MacBook Air scores higher on Windows 11 GeekBench than pricier Dell laptop
How do they repurpose them?
besnn00··on How do strong muscles keep your brain healthy?
They don't but individuals with healthy and active lifestyles also tend to have healthy brains (healthier than they would without the said lifestyle).
besnn00··on Quantum ID
Post this as Show HN next time, you'll (probably) get more feedback.
besnn00··on Apple may soon bring more ads to your iPhone
I switched from Apple because I knew they played games they shouldn't all along.
