What's your long term strategy?
Is there a silver bullet?
Isn't that the average wage, generally?
My company was considering Slack - the only reason it was agreed was due to the IRC gateway.
So it looks like slack is out of the question now.
That's the only thing I use it for. It was "ok" a couple of years ago, I even went premium for 2 months while looking for a new job (not worth it, at all!). Now it's just spam.
My last company just used it as a cheap ad platform. Staff where encouraged to "like" the weekly billboard.
A sleazy site abused by sleazy companies, including the owner.
edit: Oh, forgot to add.. I think people only give endorsements so you think twice about disconnecting them (you'll lose their endorsements).
Admin use Windows, Mac is rare.
I find it strange, in this day and age, being forced to use a single OS because "policy", especially when developing for an "open platform".
Have my kids (10,13) just grew out of it?
If you want to keep your job, your company needs money. If you want better wages/conditions, your company needs more money.
With that said, I do wish the strikers luck.
My graphics card supports the native UI elements of Windows.
My users don't want a "Save as" dialog with life-like water refraction and fog, rendered at higher FPS than their monitor.
If not, you can't blame Dell for your choice.
(I'm the type of person to buy the car before choosing the tyres)
In your opinion.
I'm a professional. My skills relate to the domain/subject, not a specific software package/language/library. I'm able to transfer my skills and learn+use alternatives - and co-operate with those who aren't.
YMMV.
In fact, my graphics card (the cheapest to support Vista) is the only thing I haven't upgraded in the past 5+ years. And it was from eBay, used.
I think your main complaint about Linux is that it's not Windows. In that case, Linux will never be ready.
They can be represented in JS, but not natively.
At least with dart2js I have just one "VM" to target - Google have sorted the x-browser issues for me. Imagine the peculiarities you'd find in Microsoft's implementation, for example.
Ironic; The very thing that MS helped the world move away from.
Anyway, they were late to both parties, now it's full steam ahead to catch up with the rest, whatever the cost (Windows). Shame, I once liked their desktop until they turned it into a phone/tablet.
