bayareabadboy··on GLP-1s are being linked to fewer serious infections, including TB
Maybe being overweight is bad for the immune system
bayareabadboy··on Babies born under sugar rationing grew into adults with lower cancer risk
A mother’s sugar intake while pregnant also has quite an effect on long term health outcomes for a baby.

Our understanding of reproductive health is pretty frustratingly limited. Hopefully that changes soon

bayareabadboy··on Ask HN: Is this the worst time to be human?
Im not trying to be rude, but you desperately need to read some history.

To answer your question being born in Eastern Europe (Poland/ukraine specifically) in the late 19th century might be the worst time/place to be human.

bayareabadboy··on SpaceX S-1
Space mining gotta be worth a lot longer term

Feel like sky is the limitidk

bayareabadboy··on The Power of a Free Popsicle (2018)
for me the takeaway is more if I have a business what can I do for my customers like offer a free popsicle that can keep them happy and coming back cheaply

Speaking as someone on a salary. Idk.

bayareabadboy··on AI load breaks GitHub – why not other vendors?
Gitlab broke today
bayareabadboy··on CA, NY Attorneys General sue to resume federal funding of Medicaid, FEMA, PEPFAR
Politics aside, it’s pretty incredible that 85M people are on Medicaid.

Feel like something is gonna give in our health care system. This doesn’t seem sustainable.

bayareabadboy··on Private Cloud Compute: A new frontier for AI privacy in the cloud
What are the longer term implications that Apple is doing this on their own hardware and not Nvidia? This seems like a big thing to me, an idiot.
bayareabadboy··on With congestion pricing stop, New York City enters new era of economic gridlock
This is the core issue. Unchecked executive overreach, by politicians of both parties at the federal and state level, will end terribly for the republic.

But no one cares if it serves their political interests.

bayareabadboy··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
Putin, a former officer in the KGB, is a product of the planned Soviet economy.

Read red state by bill browder, the Russian economy was never a free market even after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

bayareabadboy··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
I am claiming that if genghis khan was born today, he’d most likely end up very rich in Palo Alto. Digital conquest of the steppe
bayareabadboy··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
You’re absolutely right we shouldn’t celebrate that a maniac hasn’t engulfed Europe in war since 1945. This is an incredible feat for anyone with an elementary understanding of history.

We’re at the longest period of time that a unified Germany hasn’t started a war.

Obviously there are still authoritarians seeking control and starting wars, but they tend not to exist where free markets do. Apologies if that’s inconvenient for your politics.

bayareabadboy··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
This is very silly. The world has solved this and it’s markets. Before, mindlessly ambition people would take over countries and start wars.
bayareabadboy··on Almost every infrastructure decision I endorse or regret
Interesting enough read. But I’m not sure he’s a regretful enough boy to write a blog to merit the title.
bayareabadboy··on "I Contribute to the Windows Kernel. We Are Slower" (2013)
Obviously not the whole picture, but $MSFT is up about 1000% since this was written. Funny how things work out.
bayareabadboy··on OpenAI's chaos does not add up
I should have been more specific. I was referring to the writer of the original post, not Altman.
bayareabadboy··on OpenAI's chaos does not add up
“Sam Altman crafts an elaborate non-profit structure but gets completely blindsided by the possibility of the board overthrowing them.”

Always surprises me that otherwise very smart people are shocked to learn that nonprofits aren’t infallible.

Tangentially, “non-profiting” organizations tend to be far more nefarious historically than profit seeking entities, and it’s not very close.

bayareabadboy··on The Tesla Semi from an Insider's View After One Year: "Hot Mess"
Funny how politics distorts one’s view of reality. Does anyone remember the state of the electric car industry prior to Elon Musk?

You don’t have to agree with every (or any) opinion of his to acknowledge this lol

bayareabadboy··on Wall Street Is Finally Going to Make Money Off the Permian
Do you have data to back that up!?
bayareabadboy··on Why Barney Frank went to work for Signature Bank
Call me crazy, but this makes me think that there’s a chance that Barney Frank may be equally unqualified both to regulate banks and to manage them!
bayareabadboy··on Ask HN: Best books read in 2022?
lenin by victor sebestyen
bayareabadboy··on The fateful, final journey of the Edmund Fitzgerald
This told me nothing Gordan Lightfoot hadn’t already.
bayareabadboy··on California starts sending out stimulus checks up to $1,050
Does anyone honestly think this is a good idea on economic grounds? It’s just fighting fire with fire.
bayareabadboy··on UK Plans for Three-Hour Power Blackouts in Event of Gas Shortages
…Anarchy in the UK
bayareabadboy··on Steve Jobs emails himself (2010)
Steve Jobs is the man. RIP.
bayareabadboy··on HashiCorp’s multi-product strategy
I use terraform everyday, and I’m not exactly Warren Buffet but it is kinda funny juxtaposing this article with the current stock price and trajectory since IPO.
bayareabadboy··on Ask HN: Anyone else disillusioned from working in tech
I guess I don’t understand, it seems like you’re actually disillusioned from school and your relationship ending?

You haven’t actually worked in tech though, right?

I would recommend getting a job in the field and at least trying it before you declare it dull and pointless. Personally I wasn’t crazy about a bunch of people that majored in comp sci either, but I’ve made a ton of friends through my career and worked on interesting and challenging problems and get paid pretty well to do it.

Maybe also consider going to therapy or talking to someone, it seems like you might just be depressed over your breakup, which is perfectly reasonable.

bayareabadboy··on Tell HN: You can't hire because you don't post salary ranges
I feel completely the opposite. Why would I apply for a job with an upper limit of a salary range? That doesn’t really make sense to me. Also it’s an incredibly easy thing to sus out in a phone screen.
bayareabadboy··on A brief history of nobody wants to work anymore

bayareabadboy··on Glassdoor not so anonymous
I’m glad people are finally seeing through glassdoor
