bawllz··on Show HN: OpenRPC – An Interface Definition for JSON-RPC APIs
I was about to use gRPC, but forget that non-browser-supporting non-human-readable dumpster fire.

Also it looks significantly less complicated than open api/swagger. for starters, openapi/swagger has 2 fkin names. lol.

bawllz··on Show HN: Write code using natural language
Very cool!

Do you have any ideas for how to document the tool well?

Thank you for the smile this brought to my face :). Really imaginative and cool tool.

bawllz··on MG4J – A free full-text search engine for large document collections
how is this on the first page of hackernews?
bawllz··on 411 – An Alert Management Web Application
Same here. Looking a bit deeper it seems the searches are only run against elasticsearch? Also, whats up with the dependencies... php and node? why?
bawllz··on Show HN: A Boilerplate Generator for OOP JS
fixed :)
bawllz··on Discourse ditches CoffeeScript
There is a distinct possibility that the conversation was a chosen topic to try to get at the top of HN, so that we could all go and be consumed by the awesomeness that is Discourse without realizing we just got marketowned.
bawllz··on A LadyCoders Attendee: Learning To Code Isn't Enough To Get The Job
Pretty close to my sentiment with the uprise in "<blah blah blah> learn to code".

'Code' is just logic. Its not hard to learn. What is hard to learn is how to translate ideas into a programming language, or better yet, into a <i>system</i>.

C0d1ng 15 3Z, designing and developing a system to efficiently and effectively perform a task is hard.

bawllz··on [dead]
not a chance in hell. Moreover, if I was paul Graham, the last thing I'd want is people who are paying to email me, have their emails plague the top of my inbox.
bawllz··on Neat Algorithms - Flocking
Woah! Super cool idea. So many ways you can take this to a new level. Also, if anyone is looking to contribute to some open source, this would be a great opportunity as there is lots of epic optimization problems in this algorithm to work on.

For example, whats the fastest data structure/algorithm to make searching for neighbours?

bawllz··on Ask HN: Can Amazon go after my credit?
Do the right thing. Are they a massive company who wont notice a missing playstation? Sure. Is it morally okay? Not in the slightest. You are effectively stealing unless you send it in. You shouldn't take advantage of good customer service.
bawllz··on Mechanical Skeeball machine built entirely with K'nex
wow that is such a win. I wish I didn't give away all my k'nex to my cousins who don't even build anything with them.
bawllz··on A new vehicle interface
not exactly. More like you offer a base line service (for example sake lets say for free), then you offer individual feature add-ons at a cost. That way, rather then paying x$ for upgrading say, professional to ultimate and getting a bunch of features you don't need, and the single one that you do, you buy exactly what you want, and no more. Also could provide a way of priming your users to submit features that they would actually want to pay for.
bawllz··on A new vehicle interface
this made me think of a business model for a piece of software. Charge per feature? I wonder if this could be successful. For example, you offer some software with base features, and have the users pay to add specific features.
bawllz··on HN, I need to learn how to ship
Maybe you are trying to do to much? If you can find people that have similar interest to yours, and have skills which are applicable to building your ideas, I'd recommend teaming up with that person. It helps a lot having someone to not only push you along to the finish line, but also to do some of the running as well.

I had a similar issue where I would start projects, implement a bunch of it, and seemingly never finish any of it. I got in touch with some friends who enjoy design and from there I started doing back-end things and leaving the design implementing to a friend. Not only did he push me to hit milestones but I did the same for him.

Also make sure you are picking projects that the end result is something that you yourself want to use. That way, you will have a little extra motivation when it comes to finishing.

Good luck!

bawllz··on Ask HN: Help me pick a name. Transgender + Startups =?
TrannyNanny, The Startup Incubator
bawllz··on Learning to Program
Boom, nailed it.

What a joy to read, this article was.

bawllz··on Ken Black Drives Through San Francisco
lol ken block?
bawllz··on Are Watches Obsolete?
nice! That's a wicked idea!
bawllz··on Are Watches Obsolete?
I am not a fan of this writer. Firstly, TokyoFlash's watches which are "similar to reading an abacus or calculating Roman numerals" are just binary watches. Secondly, watches are amazing. Its not just about knowing the time when ever you need to by simply looking down, but its about the craftsmanship that goes into a well made watch. Its about the aesthetic pleasures of a beautiful piece of jewellery which unlike most, actually caries a function.

Watches might be evolving, but in the same way that forms of self expression are evolving. Nearly everyone wants something to set them apart, and some people use a completely un-ordinary watch to do so.

bawllz··on Announcing Hipmunk's $15M Series B Funding
I like Adioso, though I think it works best within australia. Give it a try!
bawllz··on Show HN: I'm releasing. 6months, 1dev. Looking for beta users
I signed up for beta based purely on looks. Anything that looks that pretty must be worth at least 10 minutes to try it out.

However I just noticed: "Using Social Statistics to find important" doesn't really make any sense. I think you mean "Use Social Statistics to find what's important to you" or something to that effect...

I think you should take all those snippets, and make them as a fade-in-out bar under the picture, with the signup button beside or under it. That or the recently popular offset "feature list" (I don't know how else to describe it)

bawllz··on Introducing Syte, An open sourced personal site that has social integrations
Woah thats a fantastic idea you have put together there. Well done sir!
bawllz··on Obvious Goes Beyond Meat
Its like nearly all statistics, I have learned to ignore the large part of them. I hate it when people drop percentages based on correlations which they don't reference the actual methods. In my opinion, its what defines bad media/writing.
bawllz··on Google Blockly - a visual programming language
Noooooo they finished it before I did =(
bawllz··on What If My Kid…? (A Guide To Odds)
Born gay? That's quite the can of worms you just cracked there...
bawllz··on Ask HN: I'm writing my first book ever, on HTML5, do you have any advice?
Totally agree. To expand on this idea, perhaps you could select a couple of sample problems, and work through their solutions. Example being a simple canvas game, explaining the various elements as they are introduced, concluding with a working game.
bawllz··on Ask HN: Why isn't SmallTalk more popular?
In my experience, I found it a very decent environment to work in. My qualms were related to its less than common syntax. If you ask me, its the same reason lisp dialects aren't more vastly used: they are very different than imperative language syntax, and therefore take more effort to learn.
bawllz··on Exposing young girls to STEM: Roominate Kickstarter
Amazing. Finally someone is putting actions to there words. So many people have complained of this gender-specific toy issue and no one, until now, has really done anything about it (as far as I know). This is one kick starter project I can see really taking off.
bawllz··on The First Time I Used Programming At Work
Wonderful post. I love that he solved the problem, and since he received no reinforcement, kept the success to himself and did what ever he wanted while the program did his work. Win X 5
bawllz··on Google Green - The Story of Send
Didn't you know they cook chicago-style steaks on their floor? its one of the perks of working at google! Not to mention the steaks are 100% organic and their automatic troughs operate at 93% efficiency.
