And now "5K" for 5120x2880? Is the screen supposed to be used in a "portrait" setting?
It's fine if you work in IT, you see what it does, but for most people those commercial designations are getting confused.
Aren't a and h supposed to be constant here too, just unresolved ones?
get "reduced" to: * 1 = a + 1.16h + i * 1 = a + 1.25h + i
I wonder why it isn't i/6 and i/4... basic mistake or I missed something?
I will doubt it's the one the US are pointing at, though.
Still, getting a job where you are paid with my money to harass me is not the way to get on my good side. Either way, I never take those calls, and never take anonymous calls either, unless I'm looking for a job.
Beside, that kind of behavior from a company here (in France at least, and probably most of Europe) is probably illegal.
Yes, their job is shitty, but when your job is to bully people (by phone or otherwise), don't expect rainbows and unicorns.
Since ebooks are zip with a well-defined file hierarchy, I may even be able to hack the unnecessary bits to achieve freedom on my own.
Nice to see that some authors share that point of view.
My reader is a Kindle, so not perfect there, but I manage by keeping it in airplane mode at all time, to avoid stupid updates (like the 1984 fiasco), and by adding book only through Calibre instead of amazon's library manager.
Don't take it wrong, but I'm getting wary of services offering to store my data online for free, especially when I don't know how / if it intend to make money.
Looks good though, I might give it a try even with that issue.
The point isn't that it can't be solved, the point is that if it need solving, it's probably a problem, and companies are supposed to solve problem, not to deport them from their paying customers to non-paying third-party.
We develop client interaction tools, small team and huge challenges, with clients ranging from major banks and insurance companies to state institutions.
Looking for: * Lead dev Java/Js * dev front end JS
French & English is a huge plus, but only one language and a willingness to learn could make the cut.

I would love having that phone, even more with a firefoxOS running on it. Having that plateform with open hardware specifications would be a huge boon for it to become a viable ecosystem. I could see firefoxOS and windows phone boarding it quite easily if it take.
PS: whereas specifications are open or not, IDK at the moment, not a lot of reliable information being available. Wishful thinking on my part I suppose. Still hoping.
Still, it is only one source, but having this version of this story of those so-called pirate is definitely a plus.
This is a sad thing that people still think of person as a synonym of human, there is lot of work to do in that area. I wonder if Hollywood can close the gap a bit, the film "Her" treated the subject remarkably well I though.
Society will change, but it will take time... there still are people who do not think of every human as a person (be it for skin color, religious, sex identity).
A life form which evolved in a (relatively) low-energy environment (low temperature, low light level, lower pressure) is more in hell than in a paradise. Earth organism evolved to make the best of available resources on Earth, be it energy or materials; the organism would be teared apart in no-time.
That is, unless it is a highly intelligent and evolved life form with big environment alteration capacities, but then it might already be a problem, just one we aren't aware of.
Restaurants wouldn't disappear, but it would be a bit more expensive. Also, I suppose restaurants which treat their personal badly would quickly disappear. (You can say that's wishful thinking, but the lever effect would be quite effective against those).
If you really love your job, and that's everything for you, ok, not much of a change, you may even get a bit less money. Chance is that you work with people who enjoy it too, and basic income wouldn't be much of a change for you.
But if you have a side project you want to launch, it could be what makes the difference, even if it wouldn't be possible in the current economy. Or you could take a few years off to raise your children (or help them go through a difficult period, I heard it can happen).
"Established" company have a lot to loose in that proposal, mainly those we depend on cheap labor. But it would also create a lot of opportunities on the market, so the economical aspect wouldn't be that bad.
What kind of opportunities? Let's say, if people have a bit more free time, child education through fab-lab would be pretty neat (complement or replacement of school, IDK). This is just one "on the spot" idea, it could be done today... if people took the time, or could take it.
London is 2H30 from my home (Paris), but I found going to Roma or Barcelona more easy, since I don't need any ID (and don't have to deal with customs and the induced delays).
I board the train on the evening, and when I wake up I'me ready for a week-end abroad. It's also cheaper, but that can be explained by the technical feat required to create The Channel Tunnel.
For example, salary may still be partially driven by necessary education / experience, but physical, tiresome or stressfull works would requireask for way higher salaries (because you get up at 4AM to collect garbage when you have no other choice, or when you think it really is worth it, and those jobs would still be necessary)
The same way, some companies will have huge problems filling the ranks (let's say: food industry, waiter, marts cashiers (or the people filling the mart at night), ...
But education industry (and universities) would have to change their methods, because nowadays peoples are willing to commit 100,000's of $ to get a well paying job, this incentive would be gone, the better paying one being the physical labor, with low education requirement.
I also wonder if people would go with their lives the same way they do now. I, for one, would get one of those hard, high-paying job straight out of high school for a few year, enough to buy a house and save a bit, then go to university (or self-studying with internet classes, choosing some classes in common with friends) and study whatever I found get my interest.
TL;DR: I'm all for Basic Income, mainly because I don't see any long-terme viable alterative, and also because the changes it would bring to society would be really interesting to study.
Yes, post from foreigner for who english is not their first language can have mistakes, but tolerance and constructive criticism is the way.
Sorry for the rant, your point about the "original source" still stand. Even more in this case where the original source is a major newspaper, and supposedly more trustworthy.
Also, when you look graph ², you can wonder how much of that is due to recession.
(found at random via google search, so I don't know how trustable it is, but seems legit. : http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2011_12_01_archive.html )

Nonetheless, your point is still valid, European buy less car per person.
Most of my observations are from France, since it's where I live, but it should be correct for Germany, Spain, UK at least.
Plus :
* shorter distances
* higher gas price in EU than US
Minus :
* people usually commute by public transportation. In big cities, they don't even own a car. There is no place to park it, and it's kinda useless, since it take longer to go somewhere by car than by public transport.
* For medium distance (100~1000 km), people use both car and train. It's maybe 50/50, depending on the need of car at destination. You are always more independent by car, but by train you arrive quicker, and rested (a good rail network helping).
* On the 'social' side of things, the car ownership is not a thing the way it is in america (or is it a generation thing / Hollywood exaggeration, I don't know). European young adult buy a car when they need one, not as soon as possible to show they can support themselves.
On the other hand, Tesla has better getting their supercharger network ready before the sales catch up, the other way around would be bad for the brand. And seeing supercharger on the roadside when going to fill one's tank can get people thinking, given gas price.
Most pages nowadays are small enough that it won't be a bother, but their still are some cases (newspaper posts, blog analysis, etc...) where accent sensitiveness will be an issue.
It's even worse than that. 'e' is the most used letter in french, but 'é' and 'è' are quite used too. 'ê' and 'ë' being rarer, but still existing.
So, I am exaggerating it a bit, but you can compare it to having to search for words with the consonants, because every vowel is considered the same by your search algorithm.
Yes, I'm pushing it, but you see the problem it can easily become in huge pages.
Well, in almost every country, police force recruit among the least brilliant. Hatred of differences is what stupid people do. Violence is what stupid people do when given power to do so (intelligent people handed power preferring control over violence). So no big surprise here when it come to police.
The government point is more worrying, but I don't remember any incident of that kind under current government.
Leasing a server wouldn't have changed a thing in that specific case.
Anyway, bluetouff is well-versed in computer security and the co-founder of a VPN service, so I suspect the files weren't downloaded from a french IP adress.
