bauc··on Ubisoft account -including games- can be permanently deleted for inactivity
That's why I just don't buy their games. I really enjoyed Far Cry 3 and would really like to get the rest of the series, but just can't put up with their account system even at discounted prices.
bauc··on The Physics of Scuba Diving
There is sea trek, https://www.sea-trek.com/ which is for people to walk underwater in swallow depths. Not tried it, but looks interesting.
bauc··on Effects of cat ownership on the gut microbiota of owners
We have the same here, I think a lot of cat owners who let their cats out don't appreciate the amount of downsides their neighbours have to deal with.
bauc··on UK Rail services to come under unified state control
I thought all the rolling stock was owned by a different company to the ones running the actual franchises. Which is separate from controlling the timetable. Although very confusing.
bauc··on DuckDuckGo Extension to Block FLoC, Google’s New Tracking Method in Chrome
I've found that, it took me a few times to switch over. But I've found that even when I can't find something on DuckDuckGo when I try use Google I don't find it either. I wonder if that is now because I haven't regularly used in a few years and Google isn't able to guess what I'm trying to look for.
bauc··on Ask HN: How many hours per day do you work?
For me it varies a lot, I think it's very easy to think you are working when you are not. But also easy to work and not realise it.

I think a lot about Joel Spolsky's post [1] on the subject. It depends on what you are doing but I think in software development you need to look at effectiveness rather than time spent.

bauc··on Firefox: Sponsored Top Sites (v83 in-browser ads)
Firefox updated and noticed extra "Sponsored" Top Site, I love Firefox but don't really like ads in my browser without any warning.
bauc··on Making a Snake Clone with Bevy
What phone/browser are you using? Works ok on my Moto G5 with Firefox which does have problems crashing/reset on some websites but not sure why.
bauc··on Making a Snake Clone with Bevy
I really liked the breakdown in sections. Have been trying to get into Rust and use Bevy so great timing.

Working with Bevy is a challenge/interesting at the moment with the iteration/rework of key areas but enjoying it so far.

bauc··on Transport Tycoon a.k.a. the great optimiser, Chris Sawyer
Where is the interview? Link is about history of Chris Sawyer's works but doesn't actually contain an interview. Still fascinating though, really enjoyed his games.
bauc··on Your calendar should be an allowlist, not a blocklist
I agree with the premise, but it depends on your workplace. I struggle with colleagues who don't even both checking if the spot is available.
bauc··on SimRefinery Recovered
Didn't take long but LGR has just released a video of him playing it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZ6Cqn5rTfs
bauc··on Glitch lays off roughly half of their staff
Is that the former Fog Creek/FogBugz company?
bauc··on Found hidden safe, should we crack?
Is the cover plate concealing a backup key lock? Call in the lock picking lawyer. Seems like many safes/locks don't stand up much to experienced attacks.
bauc··on Google are removing URLs entirely from search results?
I switched to DuckDuckGo a while ago, took a little while to get used but as it's my default search engine I've got used to it. The funny thing for me is now google's search results look strange to me as I've not kept up with all their "tweaks/changes".

I think best thing is switch default search to a new engine to get used to it, takes a little adjusting but worthwhile.

bauc··on Google – My Location History
It's nice in theory but can also be helped to convict you if you happen to be near the wrong place at the wrong time. Interesting related video by Law Professor and Police Officer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE
bauc··on Game Translator – Google Vision API Live-Translate Japanese Console Games
Had to shorten the title to fit but original is "Universal Game Translator – Using Google’s Cloud Vision API to live-translate Japanese games played on original consoles (try it yourself!)"

Very interesting project

bauc··on The Zipper Rule on German Roads
Yes, but I can believe people not seeing it being applied. A lot of people don't like it for whatever reason. Only ignoring it seems to create (or worsen) the problem in the first place
bauc··on The Zipper Rule on German Roads
It's funny that the article states it doesn't happen in the UK, but according to the highway code you are are supposed to. Many people seem disagree with that and like to queue but should read their highway code https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/driving-advice/zip-mergin...
bauc··on The War to Sell Mattresses Is an Internet Nightmare (2017)
Relevant Adam ruins.. (The Mattress Industry is One Big Rip-Off) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvlA9UxGvSg
bauc··on The War to Sell Mattresses Is an Internet Nightmare (2017)
Yes, sadly. Bought our bed and mattress from there 5 years ago and think we will have it more many years more.
bauc··on Moving to a Profile per Install Architecture
You can, if you run Firefox with -P and profile name. I run two instances most days.
bauc··on Millennials kill industries because they're poor: Fed report
Just look at the difference between https://www.populationpyramid.net/united-states-of-america/1... and https://www.populationpyramid.net/united-states-of-america/2... . Also look at world population change in the same period. I don't see that discussed much but when the shape of populations change (which causes how things are funded to change as well and where resources are used) society has to change too but that is a lot harder and takes a lot longer.
bauc··on Implementing a web server in a single printf call (2014)
Thanks, I forgot to check the URL with Https to find previous discussion.
bauc··on Every Weekend Should Be a 3-Day Weekend (2015)
Even if you have a 3 day weekend, you still need to have proper long blocks off work. I used to take days off on Friday or Monday to get longer weekends in lieu of taking whole weeks. It's nice to have a long weekend but I found since taking more longer blocks (week or more) it's a lot better for you to fully switch off work (usually takes a few days to switch off completely).
bauc··on Is killing the boom the key to supersonic air travel?
Some airports make a significant portion of the revenue from the long wait between security and take off (e.g. Heathrow where they only show departure information 45 mins before leaving and you are surrounded by shops).
bauc··on Managing GDPR Compliance and Drip (Blocking EU Customers)
Interesting to see non EU companies attempts at trying to avoid GDPR. Not sure how valid or safe it will be and seems like a lot of companies/people are afraid of GDPR due to not understanding it.
bauc··on Billions of devices imperiled by new clickless Bluetooth attack
Is that why Google Play Protect was recommending to disable Bluetooth Share which seems to have caused a lot of issues for people. Turning it back on requires to reset all app preferences.
bauc··on Reasons YouTubers keep imploding, from a YouTuber
The subscriptions in youtube is definitely broken for me. I use RSS feed for some of the channels as I was annoyed at how the notification count would not match what I had watched or not. That was a pain even with only a handful of channels.
bauc··on Why Online Voting Is a Danger to Democracy
Electronic voting of any kind is dangerous, it's amazing how much trust is used in any voting but how little can be afford when it's electronic (online or in person machine based).
