From the perspective of the user it’s just another blogging platform. Tumblr blogs are not self hosted and isn’t based on open source code at all. Tumblr code seems too specific and part of a bigger machine, so it also doesn’t make sense to make it open source. AFAIK goal is to make this mostly invisible to the users and their blogs will be powered by open source.
Any improvements to Tumblr blogs will have a chance to make it into the core of WordPress.
I’d imagine it’s also going to be way easier to move your blog to any other hosting provider, giving the user a wider choice.
So we'll only have Beeper on every platform.
I simply wouldn't talk to a lot of people in my life if I had to use a different app for each.
We also aim to be the best chat app, period. So even if you are using only a single account on a single network, we want to supercharge your chat experience with AI, snippets, good search, labels, advanced notification options, and much more.
Texts connects directly to the platform, from your device, without using any Texts servers having any access to your messages (even in encrypted form) and without breaking the E2EE the platform provides (for platforms that support that), similar to Beeper’s new Signal integration.
A major benefit of this is you can verify what requests are made and what responses are received. You can also use Texts, not upgrade, and would run the same WhatsApp code for example until you upgrade. Same can’t be said for WhatsApp Web for example. It might also be easier to compromise the platform themselves for a government entity, if that’s our threat factor.
It should go without saying we take user privacy and security very seriously, and have restrictions around who can build, sign and distribute our binaries.
Although personally I thought Apple wouldn't try to block them because it might look bad with with a potential antitrust case, this is sort of why we haven't tried moving to Windows or Android at Texts.com
I'm glad to see Beeper getting back to focusing trying to make the best chat app in the world, we aren't Apple but we'll fight like Apple for that claim ^^
There is a great blog post by JJTech (author of the pypush library, tech Beeper Mini is based on) also on the front page right now: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38532167
In the first version of iOS, I don't think we'll be supporting iMessage. Texts runs on your device and not our servers (this is how E2EE is properly supported for example), this comes with some limitations.
We are working on solutions though, it's in the roadmap to support all popular platforms, on all devices.
We'll try to make the FAQ more clear ^^
Instant messaging is incredibly fragmented, I use Twitter to chat with people I know from the industry, use Instagram to chat with friends, Facebook for family and marketplace stuff, WhatsApp to interact with almost every business.
(I work at Texts)
I'm not sure if their eventual products will be 'revolutionary' or 'magical' but considering Apple is pretty damn good at displays, creating new input paradigms and they make their own chip, it's possible we'll see something that's way better than everything on the market. It could make us re-think VR devices for non-productivity use cases.
Or, it could just be a failed product. Time will tell.
Apple, esp. under Tim Cook, is super efficient when it comes to this stuff.
Also, EVGA CEO claimed that it wouldn't be feasible compete with NVIDIA's pricing for Founder's Edition cards, which are usually cheaper.
I was happily using Brex until now.
Any suggestions to speed up the waiting?
Good thing is you can actually use Apple Pay, I use my Watch to pay for stuff all the time.
You have to have a foreign bank account that supports it, I use Wise since it allows Turkish customers.
I would argue this product is different since you actually pay for the hardware and the software it runs on it. Different expectations than an ad supported service.
Most coffee shops around me are fancy third wave shops, making Starbucks a cheap choice. I’m sure I can find a cheaper places couple neighborhoods away but streets are not flat, traffic is always terrible and dangerous for pedestrians.
I checked out of curiosity and we have more than 200 branches within 50 miles of me.
This is not for the occasional Frappuccino but as a simple indicator how popular a particular neighborhood is. It also tells some, but not much, about the demography too.
Starbucks is also one of the cheapest places you can get coffee/sweet drinks in my city so it’s nice to have some around ^^
Host github-personal
HostName github.com
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_personal
Host github-work
HostName github.com
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_work
Then you can use `github-work` or `github-personal` in the remote URL like `git clone git@github-work:mywork/somerepo.git`.edit: I realized after reading the other comments that I got the problem wrong! This would push the commits from the correct GitHub account but the commits would still have the e-mail from git's config and GitHub would link the account in the committer e-mail.
I’ll use thread to ask: what would be the cheapest way to have an emergency internet access? I guess Starlink kinda solves this problem but paying 100USD/m is a lot for a backup connection.
I got it by reaching out to a local distributor of Linak products in my country as I couldn't find any online website selling it at the time. You might try that, they might even know if it's compatible (or at least would know how to check).
Oh, I would suggest getting the new controller instead of the dongle since that one supports both BLE and it has physical buttons which is always great.
My desk was made by LINAK, who also provides some IKEA standing desks too. Here’s the adaptor if anyone is interested: https://www.linak.com/products/accessories/bluetooth-adapter...
I use a script that’s triggered with a keyboard shortcut which I find super cool.
I'm Turkey. You can actually pick if you want a close server or not but no country selection.
It also seems to use CloudFlare's network.
The new version (WH1000MX4, terrible naming scheme) supposedly have multi device support but I haven't experienced it yet so not sure if it's as smooth as the AirPods.
All the configuration is passed via environment variables so you don't even have to keep the config files in EFS.
You can't have some strings in the URL for the main NSA.gov domain as well. So https://nsa.gov/fakething?hey=traceroute will give you the same error.
You rarely have dead zones between cities and most towns but the Internet sometimes downgrades to 3G or Edge if you're in a super rural area.
