Sometimes they are. Sometimes that reason is long forgotten, or isn't really valid anymore, or is an overprotective measure and not really a good reason in the first place. Quite often it doesn't justify waiting weeks or months to get it changed.

barbs··on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
Absolutely disagree.

Having replaced the screen, battery and home button on my 1st gen iPhone SE myself I can confidently say that Apple do not make these easy to repair yourself, and arguably make it more difficult to drive business for their own repair service. Lots of tiny screws requiring particular tools of different lengths that can't be mixed up, lest you permanently damage the phone. Glue that needs to be carefully removed or you risk dangerously damaging the battery. Just look at their repairability scores on iFixit: https://www.ifixit.com/repairability/smartphone-repairabilit... .

Any word on when the next version is coming out? Looks like the latest version (R1/beta4) was released in December 2022.
barbs··on IRC Will Never Die (2021)
I've always thought Hacker News could do with a chat room, and given how simple it is (and free), IRC would probably best fit the bill. Searching Hacker News shows that some people have proposed different chat rooms but nothing's stuck really. I reckon it'd need a "chat" tab up the top. Nice-to-haves would be adding an optional web-based client, and tying it into your actual HN login.

I've never set up IRC before though, so I have no idea if this is actually feasible.

From their mission statement (https://100r.co/site/mission.html):

> Diversity is important in nearly all aspects, whether it's with computers, or with life itself. A polyculture of tools and systems distributes the surface of attack and creates resilience. Viruses can attack a single crop, or a single computer architecture. The more services, or resources are centralized, the more power is concentrated into fewer hands and more easily taken over.

Feels particularly relevant given the recent Crowdstrike outage.

barbs··on Jelly Star – The Smallest Android 13 Smartphone

barbs··on Jelly Star – The Smallest Android 13 Smartphone
Yeah roughly, although it's estimated to be a lot thicker, greater than 1.5 cms by some sources.
barbs··on Jelly Star – The Smallest Android 13 Smartphone
Unihertz will be launching their Jelly Max phone in a couple of days, which is bigger than the Jelly Star but (hopefully) not too big. As a 1st gen iPhone SE user I'm intrigued.

barbs··on Pimp Your Board Games
I guess it's a bit more directly competitive than typical eurogames, but I could be wrong, I'm actually terrible at categorising things likr this!

But it's an excellent game, one of my all time favourites I'd say

barbs··on Pimp Your Board Games
I think one of the understated advantages of board games is the ability to easily create, add to or modify them. You can upgrade the components to higher quality ones, like the author has done here, or add inserts to aid setup and packdown. Then there are house rules or fan-made variants to keep things interesting. Then there's the print-and-play scene, where people can quickly access new game ideas and be playing them within minutes. People will also create print-and-play versions of games long out-of-print, which I've done a couple of times, although this is somewhat legally dubious akin to downloading abandonware. Then you realise the ease at which you can create and prototype a boardgame using nothing but paper and spare bits of cardboard.
barbs··on Pimp Your Board Games
Not really a Eurogame but Food Chain Magnate's theme is pretty close.
