bagels··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
That only means that the borrowers think that the interest payments will be made.
bagels··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
We're missing all the rest of the steps, but besides, I'm not sure how that applies when there's no profit motive.

I wish that park rangers didn't have to bear the cost of this problem. Nobody has the appetite to do anything effective about it.
bagels··on US government struggles to rehire nuclear safety staff it laid off days ago
They won't go hungry. I don't think famine will stop them. They don't want to lose their dictator that is willing to advance their agenda.

That's great. Congress should be the ones making budget decisions, not Musk. Trump has control of both houses, why not cut spending and give Musk his tax breaks legally?

As it was at Twitter.
bagels··on BYD to offer Tesla-like self-driving tech in all models for free
Musk says a lot of things that are not true. Hard to know if that was a serious take.
bagels··on BYD to offer Tesla-like self-driving tech in all models for free
The Chevy Bolt was discontinued.

It's infinity years in California.
bagels··on Meta's Hyperscale Infrastructure: Overview and Insights
I haven't been there a while, but that is extremely unlikely.

A lot of the ingredients are there, but it would take a ton of work to separate the Facebook from the internal tools, and make them customer facing.

The internal tools heavily depend on other internal tools, and none of them were written with customers other than Facebook in mind.

bagels··on Teen on Musk's DOGE team graduated from 'The Com'
Direct testimonial from people who had research grants disrupted. It's not difficult to infer that now unemployed government employees are negatively impacted. There are more, not hard to find on social media.
bagels··on Reflect Orbital: Sunlight after dark using a constellation of spatial reflectors
For 6.5M round? Very unlikely it was more than financial models and pitch decks.

Do you know how clearance works? It doesn't mean that you suddenly have access to every secret in existence.

I was able to bypass the 2fa using the right signtool incantations
bagels··on Show HN: A website that heatmaps your city based on your housing preferences
Because I was induced to click by the title of the post:

"Show HN: A website that heatmaps your city based on your housing preferences"

I'm providing feedback that what is promised is not delivered. Maybe it's the op's preferences, but it's not my preferences.

It's more like a poster offering guitar lessons, and the person will only tell you that a guitar has five strings.

I want to live where I can walk to a grocery store, there is little traffic, crime and detritus, balancing affordability.

This doesn't cover any of that.

Okay, you need an EV certificate (required to be on a hardware token), and next you need to integrate it in to a CICD pipeline.

I just went through this process. It's a racket. It's really poorly documented. I rolled my own. It's a lot of work. It almost inspired me to make a product, but it's not a business I want to be in, especially if Microsoft does eventually relax their 3 year old business requirement for their Trusted Signing product.

My formula was: Github actions, Sectigo usb key, physical windows machine in the office that runs a self-hosted action runner that does the signing step.

Elon is a lying fraud. I'm pretty skeptical about any claims of fact that come out of his expedition.
bagels··on Subway crime plummets as ridership jumps significantly in congestion pricing era
Not sure how speeding relates to the subway?
bagels··on Subway crime plummets as ridership jumps significantly in congestion pricing era
There have to be at least 147 gate jumpers every morning. There's probably a delta between crime and reported crime that is pretty large.
bagels··on 20k federal workers take "buyout" so far, official says
Let's say the lawsuits are won. Here are the two inevitable outcomes for the ones that matter:

Appealed to Supreme Court which is overrepresented by Trump cultists.

Trump's DOJ refuses to enact whatever verdict the court determines.

Here's some reading after a quick googling.

Definitely in uncharted territory, but these are some possible laws that have been violated:

Impoundment Control Act of 1974, Privacy Act of 1974, the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), Internal Revenue Code’s Section 6103.

bagels··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
"Nothing Biden or Democrats could do about this"

I think with some amount of imagination, they could have done something about it.

bagels··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
Qualified or not, it's crimes, unconstitutional, and fascist.
bagels··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
Supreme court has made president king. They can just ignore the pardons.
