Quick description: is one who wants uni-polarity throughout the world. Doesn't the name essentially give it away?
badwetter··on Canada faces a series of crises that will test it in the coming years, RCMP warn
> The Arctic ocean is going to belong to the US and the sooner our local elite understands, the better they can negotiate and get their cut.

I don't know about that, the Russians are way ahead of everybody in developing their Arctic and ability to protect their interests there. As a Canadian, I, personally, would like us to join the Belt & Road. Going forward, my belief is that our interests are more aligned with Russia and China and the growing Global South. Let us get rid of our colonial shackles once and for all, eh?!

badwetter··on Twitter owner transition: Temporary ban on product updates after Elon Musk deal
I don't agree, if that was true then CNN+ wouldn't have gone forward when the buyout was happening, because the new owners weren't happy that it did!
badwetter··on Bypass Paywalls: a browser extension to help bypass paywalls for selected sites
And all your browsing data is transferred to sites like Outbrain etc., quite the list, actually. I get it, a lot of work, and you don't work for free. I'd rather pay a nominal amount rather than the tracking.
badwetter··on Guide to I2P and How It Differs from Tor/VPN and Setup Guide
I'm just getting into this myself and was struggling on how to use and why. I guess there are various uses for it, mine is primarily privacy. Think it would be good for activists in dangerous places?
badwetter··on Wayland Gets Vulkan and Multi-Monitor Support
Collabora engineer Alexandros Frantzis explains in detail the new features, saying that Vulkan support comes with window management handling, such as resizing or full-screen, and it can be used directly with or to implement Direct3D through either WineD3D or DXVK.

Well maybe read the article before commenting - Anybody that knows Greenwald's work, will know that he's a progressive. I too am a progressive, but some younger, intelligentsia progressives are employing 'cancel' culture in a way that is NOT progressive, but very often fascist. The old adage, two wrongs don't make a right, applies here.
badwetter··on Dev creeped out after he fired up Ubuntu VM on Azure was approached by Canonical
They're like Facebook, almost impossible to delete the account.
badwetter··on The Hard Lessons of Modeling the Coronavirus Pandemic
I wonder which is harder to model — The weather or human behaviour.
badwetter··on Ask HN: Does your mood affect your behavior on social media? How?
Unfortunately, yes. Most noticeably to strangers rather than people I follow and communicate with regularly, truth be told.
badwetter··on The Debian web updates its homepage and prepares for a major renewal
That looks nice, and could I say 'about time'!
badwetter··on Covid-19 Vaccine: When are African countries getting it? [video]
Well there is this: https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-vaccine... however I don't know specifically about Africa. I assume they're covered in the umbrella group COVAX which is overseen by the WHO.
badwetter··on Chrome extension manifest v3 proposal: comment from uBlock Origin author
>I pay for YouTube music, which also removes ads anywhere you are using YouTube with your logged in account

That hasn't been my experience (using GMusic) — Only on Music Videos do I not get advertisements. But I get them on everything else on Youtube.

badwetter··on The Surveillance State Puts U.S. Elections at Risk of Manipulation
But that threat disappears if this information is public for everyone.
badwetter··on Swiss forensic report on Arafat's death
false
badwetter··on Swiss forensic report on Arafat's death
Considering that this material is supposed to degrade quickly - to find the amount they did after so long in the ground is incredible sleuth work.
badwetter··on Google Security Team Member on NSA: "Fuck These Guys"
The judiciary should always have an adversarial relationship with the Intelligence community in order to have checks and balances. I think FISA could work with more and varied members on it's committee.

Feinstein is a joke and obviously isn't well informed on the subject matter she's supposedly overlooking.

badwetter··on The World Needs Data Scientists
Yeah for the spy agencies ....
badwetter··on Interactive Resume
Doesn't work on the latest Chromium for me, using Gnome-Shell 3.8 So maybe not the best way to showcase oneself, if it's not reliable.
badwetter··on Social media etiquette for businesses
Well in my opinion the article is pretty much a no brainer. Does anyone in business really need to be told this though?
badwetter··on Stanford Fall 2011 - Introduction to Databases
Well it says "Introduction" so I assume that little to no knowledge are required in database programming.
badwetter··on BATS: startup the stock exchange
Some people question if it's systems like BATS that encourage market volatility because of it's preprogramed buy/sells on penny fluctuations.
badwetter··on Charlie Rose with Warren Buffett: Stop Coddling the Super-Rich
So refreshing to hear a wealthy man like Mr. Buffet say this! Helps President Obama too.
badwetter··on Interesting and true (if sweary) rant on G+'s naming policy
Stupid and whiny article.
badwetter··on Adobe debuts Muse, a no-code-required site builder
Can imagine that the auto generated code is pretty ugly. But I guess this is where the market for them is heading.
