b0rtb0rt··on McDonald's Is Using AI to Dynamically Price Its Burgers
interesting, for me the app is always way cheaper than ordering in person. but i guess i have no way of comparing with other peoples prices in their apps. what an age we live in
b0rtb0rt··on Everyone has ADHD because we made it up
pretty much everyone is going to perform better on amphetamines
b0rtb0rt··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
more like “they didn’t follow the rules and destroyed our nice society and dumped garbage everywhere”
b0rtb0rt··on Tell HN: AGI Is Here
how do you know?
b0rtb0rt··on Tell HN: AGI Is Here
your brain just used fancy autocomplete based on past patterns to write this post

prove me wrong(you can’t)

b0rtb0rt··on Plan mode is dead
why do you even need plan mode?

“discuss your plan with me before implementing anything”

theres your plan mode

b0rtb0rt··on You can defeat the Dream Devourer from Chrono Trigger using an int overflow
i played thru it with my kids recently and they all loved it so i would say it holds up, the steam version is fine
b0rtb0rt··on The senior engineer death spiral
i’m very happy in the “terminal” senior position at my company, there are higher levels but it’s fine to stay at the level that i’m at forever. i don’t need to pick up extra work because im not trying to get promoted and i can usually get by just by having smart sounding ideas in meetings, helping figuring out the more ambiguous tasks and just doing enough to meet expectations. the expectations of the higher levels seem pretty unpleasant , and the guys at lower levels than me are happy to pick up extra work because they want to get promoted lol
b0rtb0rt··on T. Rex Had a Body Temperature of 97°F
the best part of this kind of science is that there’s no way to reproduce it or prove if it’s actually true, but it makes a great pop science article
b0rtb0rt··on Data collected by cars and sold to third parties
other drivers will assume someone else already called it in and drive past
b0rtb0rt··on Ask HN: Are we losing our engineering literacy?
i think the opposite is the problem

lots of people (such as yourself) who think they are really smart with no understanding of how consciousness works, confidently proclaiming what does and does not count as consciousness

“it’s just glorified autocomplete”

ok, so prove to me that the post you just wrote with your brain was doing something differently than glorified autocomplete

b0rtb0rt··on I resigned from Anthropic today
oh so “all” it can do is bring down all banking and critical infrastructure services, no big deal really
b0rtb0rt··on How the Tobacco Industry Drove the Rise of Ultra-Processed Foods (2025)
theres a difference between cooked rice and ritz crackers

ritz crackers are basically already digested before you eat them

b0rtb0rt··on How the Tobacco Industry Drove the Rise of Ultra-Processed Foods (2025)
my wife describes ultra processed food as food that is basically pre digested for you before you eat it, which seems like a pretty good definition to me
b0rtb0rt··on Old.reddit.com no longer works for logged out users
it’s been intermittently working and not working over the last few weeks, not sure what that’s all about
b0rtb0rt··on Dwarf Fortress' creator says the industry's in shambles over AI
metal gear solid 2 predicted all of this 25 years ago
b0rtb0rt··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
who did do it?
b0rtb0rt··on Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac: The future of supercars is combustion engines
why is everyone on hacker news always so butthurt about cars lol
b0rtb0rt··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
in japan the homeless people clean up after themselves and don’t destroy everything

what’s the difference here?

b0rtb0rt··on Rules of good social skills (2025)
not really it’s just a bunch of excuses about why things are too hard. it’s a lot easier to say you have some condition making improvements impossible than to actually put work into improving things
b0rtb0rt··on Rules of good social skills (2025)
#3 is my hack, i’ve lived all over the us and can always come up with something to relate to people from different regions
b0rtb0rt··on The case for overhauling American science
that would be even more impressive if the vaccines actually worked
b0rtb0rt··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
why even go to college if you can’t handle it and aren’t ready?
b0rtb0rt··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
he meant actual adults with responsibilities
b0rtb0rt··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
your kid could also not do any of those things and still go to college(or not) and have a happy fulfilling life
b0rtb0rt··on Stop Killing the Internet: No Digital ID and No Age Verification
you need to look up how to explore the woods outside your house?
b0rtb0rt··on Stop Killing the Internet: No Digital ID and No Age Verification
am i alone in wanting the internet to be killed? we’d all be better off if everyone wasn’t terminally online
b0rtb0rt··on Fertility is collapsing because motherhood is zero-status
most women are on medication that tricks their bodies into thinking they are already pregnant and suppresses their primary biological drive. this makes their “choice” a lot easier
b0rtb0rt··on The deadly rise of giant trucks and SUVs
unfortunately it’s an arms race at this point and the only correct choice is to get a bigger vehicle to protect yourself
b0rtb0rt··on The deadly rise of giant trucks and SUVs
he’s not wrong, why should i choose a less safe vehicle for my family to ride in? large heavy vehicles are safer for the occupants in a multi vehicle collision, and in order to protect yourself from large vehicles(including bigger trucks/semis) you should be in a large vehicle too. it’s suicidal to choose a smaller car because trucks make you mad
