Old.reddit.com no longer works for logged out users

Used old.reddit.com for ~10 years with no problem to get around the "new" UI, including yesterday. Come today, and there's a unavoidable pop-up saying it's for logged-in users only.

It's simple, if I can't access old.reddit without a login, then I don't access reddit at all.

My money is it won't be long before old reddit is deprecated altogether.

as an old.reddit user i'm surprised it's still up at all. they are surely losing money on people like us

Likewise. I can't help but wonder how many people they're expecting to switch to enshittified reddit or to log in after this change. Maybe 1% will?

I'm not installing a browser plugin. I'll just take a vacation until there's an xcancel-like solution.

"On Monday 24th August at 8PM EST, we received at letter from X Corp. asking to cease and desist the service XCancel."

funny that :(

It's like just the old reddit accounts that use it, and they just don't care about us anymore. It's all about that ad money and tracking.

Try using https://github.com/mkornreich/old_reddit to browse Reddit with the old reddit layout while logged out

Works ok for browsing links, it’s not as nice as “old” but it’s okay - but the post comments are still the incoherent “new” design.

Feel free to make a Github issue because I can't reproduce it. The comments for me are in the old design

My bad I was thinking of a similar extension "sheddit". Yours is quite a bit nicer.

So much for being anonymous and reading old.reddit.com?

It's a sad day. The end of an era.

it’s been intermittently working and not working over the last few weeks, not sure what that’s all about

What is Reddit?

Currently wfm logged out, in a fresh private browser window with this
