awesomelvin··on Okay, I Like WezTerm
Not sure if it counts but the suckless project (e.g. st or dwm) use C (its source code) as config :)
awesomelvin··on A little closer to finding what became Moses Schönfinkel (2021)
Ha, my German professor did that too (Tübingen!). Also, I've heard the English equivalent "Schönfinkeling" sometimes.
awesomelvin··on P1030680: Unbroken Enigma message (U534, 01 May 1945)
We also use Zzzz.
awesomelvin··on [dead]
The website actually only loads the images in view (~10 if you're not scrolling). I get your point though.
awesomelvin··on A URL shortener not shortening the URL but makes it look very dodgy
Hmm weird. Did you click confirm?
awesomelvin··on A URL shortener not shortening the URL but makes it look very dodgy
I have a similar website called http://clickhere.lol (yes, the missing ssl is intentional). Has a weak server though..
awesomelvin··on Placing #1 in Advent of Code with GPT-3
You should really think about the ethics of using this. You could wait a few minutes before executing your script. Some people work really hard to get on the leaderboard and players like you destroy the concept.
awesomelvin··on Wren is a small, fast, class-based concurrent scripting language
I recently fell in love with Agda and it seems like you'd like it too. It's basically Haskell but even more mathematical, pure, abstract and total.
awesomelvin··on Ask HN: What LaTeX editor do you use?
Vim
awesomelvin··on Google Timer is back
Huh that's weird. It actually shows the correct 336h for a few milliseconds first and then counts back from 35h. I wonder what's happening internally - messing up a timer shouldn't be that easy normally, right?
awesomelvin··on Our brain is a prediction machine that is always active
I've personally always liked the deterministic approach more. Is there any reason you believe in an indeterministic randomness approach?
awesomelvin··on GitHub Code Search (Preview)
I've tried it for several months and compared the results to https://grep.app (I normally use it many times a day) and while GitHub cs has way more indexed repositories, the results of grep.app are still way better and more helpful to me.
awesomelvin··on Xournalpp++ – closs-platform, open source note taking software
I believe you may like Obsidian.
awesomelvin··on Manim – Python library for creating mathematical animations
He is literally the creator of Manim and used it for all his videos. He also publishes the source code of each video on his GitHub account.
awesomelvin··on Why learn Racket? A student's perspective
I actually learned Racket in the University of Tübingen last fall too and made the exact same experience as the author. I think it's a great language to learn recursive and functional thinking and to get better at finding elegant and compact solutions for complex problems. Many students of my class were unhappy with the language choice at my university too and I really can't understand it because I had so much fun with such a different approach to programming.
awesomelvin··on 3Blue1Brown: The mathematically optimal Wordle strategy
He's generally using his own tool called 'manim'. All of his code/animations are open-source. The code for this specific video can be found here: https://github.com/3b1b/videos/blob/master/_2022/wordle.py
awesomelvin··on OpenBSD: Hibernate Time Reduced
The main problem for me is the Widevine incompatibility. While many people see this as an advantage, I actually do enjoy the convenience of using Netflix/Spotify instead of Torrents/alternative clients.
