awa··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
With higher energy cost, People who could afford ACs would pay off the linemen to connect the AC directly bypassing the meter.

RO water is Reverse Osmosis water. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_osmosis)
awa··on First and Lego Education Partnership Update
Personally, the Lego stuff was unreliable and a lot of time was spent by kids in making sure the robot worked across different conditions and there was a lot of pressure on them on ideal placement etc. Again, great things to learn for kids but very frustrating as this is the first foray for elementary kids into programming/robotics.

FTC in comparison has been way more fulfilling for my children and I am hoping the next version of FLL is a lighter version of something similar.

awa··on Google Announces Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2023 Results [pdf]
+1. Employees can generally boost revenues (if used correctly).

The post I was replying to was implying that cutting employees boosted revenues somehow.

awa··on Meta to ask many managers to become individual contributors or leave
It creates the problem of too many chefs but too few cooks. Too many people discussing how to best construct a thing vs actually constructing the thing.
awa··on Tesla drops prices up to 20 percent in attempt to drive sales
This is thanks to the absurd guidance by the govt. to only give tax break Model Y like vehicles if they are under $55K. (Personally, this hurts as I bought a MY in December)
awa··on Hard truths I learned when I got laid off from my SWE job
Frankly, Leetcode seems like a more objective test to me than a panel of interviewer grinding me on behavioral questions checklist.
awa··on Redfin cuts 13% of staff, shuts down home-flipping business
However, they would have a loan between 3-4% which seems to 1-2% lower than current rates.

awa··on Ask HN: How do I develop focus?
Adderall. Frankly, Get yourself evaluated for ADHD and see if prescription can help. Even just knowing has done wonders for my mental health by making me more forgiving for the mistakes/inattention commonly associated with ADHD
awa··on Applebee’s exec urges using high gas prices to push lower wages, sparks walkout

awa··on Ask HN: Are System Design documents out of fashion?
At Google, design documents are a big deal and I have really come to appreciate them a lot. My previous employers were not so big on design documents so it was a big change for me.
awa··on I'm keeping a job search diary on my blog
Thanks for keeping a open diary. I am wondering if you find the big banner ad on your website worth the extra money, it makes the blog feel like a spam website.
awa··on Pinterest ruined photo search on the internet
Afaik, Google removed the "View image" feature due to the getty lawsuit. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/02/internet-rages-after...
awa··on How to Read “Gilgamesh” (2019)
Personally, I feel the characters in Mahabharata are more shades of grey (rather than just Good or Bad) unlike Ramayana which is portrayed as a fight between Good vs Bad.

Even Krishna's role has a lot of valid criticism in terms of the little he does to avoid the war (being a god and all). The closest clean character seems to be Karna who is on the losing side.

awa··on Atlassian fired me while I was taking care of my wife who is fighting cancer

awa··on Google is officially releasing Fuchsia OS, starting with a first-gen Nest Hub
I have been presently surprised with Google Assistant in this regard, the integration with my TV (with new Google TV Chromecast) is amazing and a lot of time I don't bother to pick up the remote. (Saying things like "Play xyz on TV", switches on the TV, figures out the right app and starts playing the show saving me 4-5 actions on the remote)
awa··on Peloton to invest $400M to build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Ohio
People are used to paying $100+/mo for a Gym, if Peloton can convince them to work out at home thats worth the $2500 they charge every 3 years or so. They can make the equipment free or cheap with multi-year subscriptions.
