aw9f70gae··on Most of my skills are now worth nothing, but 10% are worth 1000x
I was implying that the additional redistribution is a necessity for an ethical society.
aw9f70gae··on Most of my skills are now worth nothing, but 10% are worth 1000x
I hope that we can all stop denying that our skills are obviated so that we can get to the more important fact that it’s supposed to be a good thing, because humans have to do less work.
aw9f70gae··on Managers exploit loyal workers over less committed colleagues
My overwork largely stems from virtue signaling that despite being one of the few wfh devs at my company, that I’m not lazing about.

Is there anywhere to get this kind of experience in the US?
aw9f70gae··on I’m a productive programmer with a memory of a fruit fly
Typescript autocomplete makes this article feel very irrelevant to me
aw9f70gae··on I’m a productive programmer with a memory of a fruit fly
I’ve started taking screen recorded video journals of my work. As I explain what I’ve done and what still needs to be done, I am navigating the codebase and highlighting key elements, the way I would during a zoom call with a colleague.

Thanks for this. My father was reading Swann’s Way when he passed away. I wonder what his Proustian madeleine was?
aw9f70gae··on Ask HN: What'd you do while HN was down?

aw9f70gae··on FOSS devs are burning out, quitting, and even sabotaging their own projects
Perhaps we should consider how modern society can change to fit the open source model rather than the other way around

Sorry about the bad title. First time submitting to HN, will be more verbose next time

aw9f70gae··on Poll: Is the leetcode grind necessary to land a high paying remote job?
In that case couldn’t you give an automated test that more pertains to the job requirements and the applicants’ prior experience?

Off topic, but why wouldn't you recommend knex.js / where can I read good criticisms of it?
aw9f70gae··on Living on 24 hours a day
I read a book called 4000 Weeks that mentions the book in the OP. It cautions us not to get too caught up in the need to use one’s time productively. I recommend at least reading the blurb.
aw9f70gae··on If – A Poem by Rudyard Kipling
My father gave me this poem printed on decorative paper for my 16th birthday. He sent it to me from prison.

He died suddenly this year. I feel sad and numb reading it again.

aw9f70gae··on Internet addiction and the habit of book reading
I was never a reader. I’ve played video games since I was a child, for over twenty years, and social media for almost as long.

I wonder how much harder it will be to develop mental patience and critical reasoning as someone who has never known what it’s like to slow down and enjoy the thought process of reading a book.

I have never not felt like my mind’s going 100mph

aw9f70gae··on Internet addiction and the habit of book reading
What kind of games? I’d like to stop playing addictive games and start playing games that are better for my mind.
aw9f70gae··on Ask HN: Are most of us developers lying about how much work we do?
This just makes me feel worse because I'm a very hardworking noob.
aw9f70gae··on The benefits of staying off social media
Social media reinforces the idea that artistic success is a single, worldwide, objective hierarchy. It's harder than ever to return to the idea that art should be a pursuit that is social and subjective — one validated by the people that the artist directly cares about.
aw9f70gae··on Get started making music
In a market oversaturated with good talent, marketing has to be the differentiator.
aw9f70gae··on Farmer born in 1842 talks about life and change (1929) [video]
When life is simpler it’s easier to parse hardships that are inherent and unavoidable, versus those that are foisted upon you by society. In our modern and bewildering world, it is much harder to differentiate and thus more depressing and painful.
aw9f70gae··on HK's Apple Daily raided by 500 officers over national security law
> freest laissez faire city state in the world

It's just so easy to idolize Hong Kong and ignore the severe failures in its socioeconomic system for the sake of critiquing China. Please do better.
